Title: Interesting video on stances Post by: ArcaneOne on September 06, 2018, 05:19:03 PM Not mine, but recent, and I find this an interesting take on comparison to historical form and the physics of lightsabers.

Found the information quite helpful and explained more clearly why using fencing one handed techniques is generally more effective for scoring during a duel. That is unless you and your opponent just want to hypothetically slice and dice each other. :D

Title: Re: Interesting video on stances Post by: Master Resolute on September 09, 2018, 02:13:03 PM Good video. I like some of it, I disagree with some if it. Such is life. Personally, I'm never going to lunge and commit all my weight into the thrust. In Kali, we use a much different style of the thrust that does not expose the lead leg to a counter attack or evasion tactic. I realize this is a key component to epee/fencing.
It has the same range as a lunging thrust with none of the exposure. That being said, I've seen plenty of duels where the Fencer quickly overwhelm's their opponent and ends the fight with what I call " The all or nothing " lunge attack. On the flip side, I've also seen the Push Shuffle, Step - Slide - Step and Slide - Step variations of the lunge fail and leave them completely exposed, especially against any practitioner that uses the Zoning/Sectoring method and some good foot work. Go with what works for you I always say :) Everything is HappenStance. |
