Title: Whatcha Eating or Cooking Post by: Darth Tepes on April 19, 2019, 01:36:58 AM Shamelessly Copying the Whatcha Listening to Thread started by Threadjack... After a discussion about food the other day I thought this would be an interesting topic.
Here you can post what you may be currently eating or cooking. Even share recipes if you like. Currently I am making Pulled BBQ Chicken for an Easter Pot luck tomorrow at work. Title: Re: Whatcha Eating or Cooking Post by: Darth Knox on April 19, 2019, 01:46:49 AM Currently drinking: Guiness
Currently eating: Nothing (as it's 2.44am and I don't have work tomorrow because it's a bank holiday). However, earlier I made garlic lemon prawns in a cream sauce with blue cheese on top of some wholemeal fettucini Title: Re: Whatcha Eating or Cooking Post by: tx_tuff on April 19, 2019, 02:13:33 AM I had some kind of beef tips and gravy my wife made. I need some tacos.

Title: Re: Whatcha Eating or Cooking Post by: Edon Bluewolf on April 19, 2019, 04:06:33 AM My mom made some delicious food especially for me today:
Pasta with cheese, shredded pork with mole`and garlic pepper mashed potatoes Title: Re: Whatcha Eating or Cooking Post by: Darth Knox on April 19, 2019, 10:37:46 AM traditional English fry-up: eggs, bacon (proper bacon, not the streakly kind), baked beans, black pudding, toast, mushrooms.
Here's a question - how many of you cook and how often do you do it? Title: Re: Whatcha Eating or Cooking Post by: Darth Tepes on April 19, 2019, 11:50:12 AM traditional English fry-up: eggs, bacon (proper bacon, not the streakly kind), baked beans, black pudding, toast, mushrooms. Here's a question - how many of you cook and how often do you do it? I cook almost all the time. There are times when I get home late and or am exhausted and just have a sandwich or get take out. Title: Re: Whatcha Eating or Cooking Post by: Majobu5 on April 19, 2019, 12:08:47 PM I cook everyday.. post pics here too, I'd say!
I made my boys some homemade pizzas last night. Title: Re: Whatcha Eating or Cooking Post by: Taegin Roan on April 19, 2019, 05:14:30 PM I don't cook super often, but I do prepare food at least once a day. If I had more time, I would probably get back into baking.
Title: Re: Whatcha Eating or Cooking Post by: ThreadJack on April 19, 2019, 10:38:02 AM I prepare food more than I cook. A lot of my stuff is just frozen stuff I reheat. I do like to cook sometimes though. I'm learning more now that I mo longer eat meat or fish, so I can't just reheat my parents leftovers. :P
Just finished more of that spaghetti. 😋 Title: Re: Whatcha Eating or Cooking Post by: Darth Knox on April 19, 2019, 06:08:06 PM Can you explain what you mean by "prepare food"? To me, that means getting all the ingredients out of the fridge ready to cook something.
Title: Re: Whatcha Eating or Cooking Post by: Taegin Roan on April 19, 2019, 06:12:04 PM Can you explain what you mean by "prepare food"? To me, that means getting all the ingredients out of the fridge ready to cook something. I was using it in something like making a sandwich. You don't actually cook something (usually) when you make a sandwich. Things like that. To me for something to be considered cooking (or baking) has to have some sort of chemical reaction. Whether that is melting cheese or bread raising. Title: Re: Whatcha Eating or Cooking Post by: Darth Knox on April 19, 2019, 06:14:10 PM I was using it in something like making a sandwich. Title: Re: Whatcha Eating or Cooking Post by: Taegin Roan on April 19, 2019, 06:32:01 PM Cool. Are you saying you predominantly make sandwiches? You never do stuff with rice/pasta/cous cous/potatoes? Yeah, I predominately eat sandwiches because they are easy, fast, and fit in my backpack without making a mess. If I am at home and not the Uni, then I don't usually eat sandwiches. We do eat a quite a bit of rice/pasta/cous cous (or quinoa as we call it)/potatoes, though it is usually with dinner/supper/evening meal. Lately we have been eating a lot of salad too. Title: Re: Re: Whatcha Eating or Cooking Post by: tx_tuff on April 19, 2019, 06:36:49 PM traditional English fry-up: eggs, bacon (proper bacon, not the streakly kind), baked beans, black pudding, toast, mushrooms. I cook but can't really say I enjoy it. My kids would much rather me cook and eat at home but I much rather go to a restaurant LOL.Here's a question - how many of you cook and how often do you do it? I also bake. Make an the kids their birthday cakes or cupcakes, even sometimes 100% from scratch. Have even made apple pie, keylime pie, and pecan pie from scratch. I do enjoy making dips, like roasted salsa, salsa verde (green), creamy jalapeño. I guess these are all Mexican style or Tex-Mex type things. I thought cous cous and quinoa were two different things? My parents got me in the habit of making my lunch the night before. They also made us pack our bags and put out our clothes the night before too. I still do it to this day which helps in the morning not having to wake up early to do any of that stuff. I'll use tupperware to take pasta/rice/salad into work with me in my rucksack. Title: Re: Re: Whatcha Eating or Cooking Post by: Taegin Roan on April 19, 2019, 06:45:44 PM , salsa verde (green), I can only assume that you know that verde means green? I also bake. Make an the kids their birthday cakes or cupcakes, even sometimes 100% from scratch. Have even made apple pie, keylime pie, and pecan pie from scratch. The majority of what my family bakes is from scratch. Fun stuff. Plus it tastes better than store-bought 99.9% of the time. I thought cous cous and quinoa were two different things? You are making me second guess myself now. I'll have to figure out if they are different or not. Yeah, I do the same thing (unless I forget). I don't like cold food for the most part, so unless I have a microwave that I can use I won't even consider bringing something that needs heated up. And I refuse to use the microwaves at the Uni, so yeah. Title: Re: Re: Re: Whatcha Eating or Cooking Post by: tx_tuff on April 19, 2019, 06:51:14 PM I can only assume that you know that verde means green? I suppose "reheating" would have been a better word. Title: Re: Whatcha Eating or Cooking Post by: Darth Tepes on April 19, 2019, 07:01:13 PM I generally cook meals for the week and freeze them. Peanut Butter is my protein of choice for smoothies. I have never counted a calorie in my life and never will. I focus purely on how much protein, carbs and healthy fats I consume each day to ensure I hit the requirements by training at the gym. Normally I just have a protein shake, but every once in a while it's nice to jazz it up a little. I've tried it with water and hated the taste. Had to chuck it out. And milk is good for you. I found it strange my few times visiting the States that you only seem to sell streaky bacon over there. Obviously I didn't visit everywhere in the country so I'm sure someone somewhere sells proper bacon. Either way, bacon is good and has it's place in everyone's diet (even vegans). American bacon is from the pork belly as mentioned above. Canadian bacon (sold in the states) is pork loin. Proper British bacon is a combo of both, it has pork loin and belly in the same cut. Good reminder, I wasn't even thinking outside US. I'm not sure if they're even a national chain yet in the US. There's a few chains like that which are regional, so not even all Americans have got the same stuff. Sometimes that's half the fun is learning what different stuff some states have (plus countries). And I've only tried Five Guys three times, and that was about 9 years ago, so things may have changed. Although, burger places like Five Guys, Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Byron etc don't tend to be greasy. I think they try (where possible) to cut down on excessive grease and be healthy. Or as healthy as a burger can get. But like I said, I'm hardly an authority on them. Title: Re: Whatcha Eating or Cooking Post by: janx on June 11, 2019, 12:16:48 AM Dry?????
