Title: new saber enthusiast looking to change a mystery box saber
Post by: iandouglas736 on August 28, 2023, 09:57:59 PM
Hi everyone,

I got a mystery box the other day and it came with a single white LED board, and I was thinking about swapping it out for a different LED board. (it didn't come with a quick disconnect, but I might add that myself shortly (no pun intended)) I was able to 3D print some LED discs that work alright, and also tried some pieces of car headlamp film in red and green to mixed effect. I figure it'll have a bigger impact if I just swap out the LED for another color.

Question 1:
Are the Cree XP-E2 compatible as far as voltage etc.? The mystery saber has no sound, just 4 AAA batteries leading to the switch and the LED board. Not looking to add sound to this saber.

Question 2:
I'm also considering a multicolor/RGB bulb as well, and curious if anyone here has had luck with this type:

Question 3:
If I do go for the RGB, I'm curious what kind of 3-pin dip switch I could run down to the pommel so I can remove the pommel, flick some switches, and toggle the red/green/blue on or off.
eg, https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/omron-electronics-inc-emc-div/A6SN-3104/2754723 (https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/omron-electronics-inc-emc-div/A6SN-3104/2754723)
... is a 25mA limit okay on that particular switch, or should I consider a different one?

cheers!
