Title: Djem So video: Ripostes and counters
Post by: Darth Nonymous on September 03, 2012, 02:49:50 PM
There has been discussion over the idea of ripostes and countering. Here is  video covering the main concepts of Djem So counters.

There are three kinds: ripostes-fluid ripostes- and dodges and feints.

This demonstrates what these look like in free sparring and gives an idea on how they are actually used. You can see how effective they are as well as how quick.

hopefully, this wil add to the discussion Nero's vid started.

Are fluid ripostes, then, sort of like... attacks which, if they fail, can be used as defense? So that your blade, while it is attacking (trying, as you said in your video, to beat your opponent to an attack), is also in place to parry the opponent's attack if necessary?

actually, no. They are quite literally attacking  and parrying at the same time. If your blade comes down at a certain angle and is timed just right with the opponents in coming attack, the single arc will both parry the blade and continue to reach the target.
