Only a few weeks until this glorious day! I figured there might as well be a thread for all things Halloween, so here it is ;)

I've been decorating my room since yesterday, so hopefully it'll be done by tonight. Jack-o'-lanterns will be made at some point as well and I'll be roasting the pumpkins' seeds.

It will be interesting to see what others have done and will be doing for Halloween.... we've got a lot of talented costume and prop makers among us, after all 8)

So many things that I would like to to do for halloween.
I'll actually be staying at school and hanging with my friends.

I want to try and go to the Hotel of Horror(An abandoned local hotel that someone bought, and turned into a haunted house a few years back. There's also a local legend that the building really IS haunted), and Mazezilla(the local corn maze). Hopefully I can get a group together for those, hopefully this week.

As far as Halloween itself, probably just watching scary movies in the dark, trying to hide from Trick or Treaters. XD.

I am consulting with a local haunted house, in an old theater being completely restored...that and work is taking most of my time this year.

I am planning a couple zombies crawling out of graves for the front yard.

Later this week I will be shopping with my youngest daughter, 18, for pieces to build a vampire outfit...I have to try and balance what see wants and what Mom will let her out of the house wearing (or not wearing more to the point).  I found a really cool lace top at Charming Charlies, we will build it off that.

I'm just gonna be a jedi w/ my new saber(s) =3 Gotta put my costume together. Gonna focus on that next weekend. Start planning during this week.

I'll probably be working much of the day (I work pretty late).  I'll probably wear my Ren garb to work (although if I fall utterly in love with my new saber before then, maybe I'll try to scare up a Jedi costume instead :) ).  Basically I'm going to be boring.  :(

None in quite a long time.  When I lived in Michigan, I used to go to Michigan Ren Fest fairly often and Silver Leaf occasionally.  Since I moved to Pittsburgh I haven't gone to any, partially for lack of time, partially because the people I used to go with are now 300 miles away.

Dawwww that stinks. =( Bristol Ren Faire is about a two hour drive from where I live so I guess that's not so bad...

Look at all the Halloween love! It makes me warm and happy inside 8) I'll probably compile a costume, but I might not have any occasion to wear it (aside from the day itself, that is ;)).

Just wear it around anyway. ;) S'what I do.

I may where a costume to work, but I don't plan on partaking of le candy scavang this year. For one thing, nobody I normally go with can pass off for being very young anymore (though we got a good 3 extra years or so outta my baby faced bro. He was getting child's movie tickets at 18. XD), and for another... I'm just plain worn out. I'd rather not run from work, to the old haunts, run all over, then back home, do costume donning in there someplace, etc. Oh, and it's supposed to be in the high 80s on that day here. That's a bit toasty for robes and armor.

I am toying with doing something if it's cool enough after work though. Perhaps tossing on my robes or flight gear and heading down to the clubhouse. See what's on over there. Maybe do some spinning or velocities out back on the field behind the pool. Which reminds me, I should seal up a spare blade for a little water fun sometime.

Just about everyone on this end of the Province gives in to vandalism and arson on Halloween...I'll be sitting in my comfy chair watching the road and the church to make sure no one sets either of them on fire.

Last night, I went on Hawaii's annual Zombie Pub Crawl (thrown by the Irish family on island that owns at least three of the bars) as a Zombie Waldo. Despite the never ceasing shouts of "I Found Waldo!!" it was a good time with friends.  Might throw some pictures up in a bit.

Hey, the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire (http://www.parenfaire.com/) isn't bad, from what I've heard.

There's also the Maryland Renaissance Festival just west of Baltimore, which is REALLY nice and one of the top Faires in the country (consistently tying with Minnesota Renaissance Festival and Texas Renaissance Festival for attendance). Both of them are less than 300 miles from Pittsburgh

My little girl will be dressed as a unicorn.  My wife suggested I dress as Pinkie Pie and that went over like a lead balloon with me. 

Thought about doing a Sith Costume as I have more materials around here for that but could not find a cloak in my size in time or my price range. 

I'll probably just wear my Gi and take her around the neighborhood. 

Guh, not by much.  Oh well, I'll see who I can drag along kicking and screaming some day.  :)

It is possible to set a road on fire? I mean, without using artillery? I have a strong curiosity to see how this is done. Preferably on a TV documentary, not in front of my house. lol

Also, 50/50 on heading down to the clubhouse after work on the 'ween to enter the costume contest. Only problem is I think it starts at exactly the time I get off work, but I'm HOPING I can show up late and still get in. If I DO go, I don't want to be cocky (but I AM Corellian after all ;) ), but I'm pretty sure the likes of my Jedi garb and any of my sabers would easily outdo the competition in the 18 + Division. Half the park is seniors. XD

The Chemist inside me is proud of this.  The Healthcare Worker inside me shutters at the ER visit that will come from this.

Aw, c'mon Blue! That would be hilarious! I'm actually thinking of making a Nightmare Moon- or Luna-inspired costume for next Halloween. Not a Nightmare Moon or Luna costume, mind you, but one that is clearly based on NMM or Luna.

The problem is that I like accuracy.  I cannot jump like Pinkie Pie.  Spike the Dragon or Big Macintosh are more my speed.

Dressing not male does not bother me.  Pinkie really likes to jump rather than walk in all of the episodes.  My knee is better but it is not to that level of being able to jump everywhere I got.  Big Macintosh has a very slow gate and Spike has stubby legs so he doesn't move very fast. 

The law abiding citizen in me says, "Let's not vandalize the church like a bunch of idiots." ;)

Well the military man can take it up with the Healthcare Worker voice inside my head next time his time to bat is up.  Right now, the Vet Tech is running the show.  Next in the line up is Lunatic Car Driver.

So for Halloween, I plan to have a water balloon fight with the kids in the apartment complex. I hope they give me enough time for the kettle to start to boil...

No joke, I got a text from a friend this morning. He walked into a bathroom on campus, and there was this sign inside the door that said 'Water Balloons Prohibited'. Right there on the bathroom wall. He even sent a picture of it. I SO would love to hear the story behind that.....

I'm watching the road to have better sight lines of approaching troublemakers. As to why they do it, they get completely wasted on anything they can get their hands on. A couple of years ago, a guy dragged his shed into the middle of the road, lit it on fire, called the cops and his buddies. Once the cops arrived, the buddies came out of hiding, put something behind the squad car to keep the cops from getting away and then proceeded to herd the cops toward the wharf. They take wearing masks as meaning that they can't be caught. Another couple of years ago, a drunk mob swarmed a house and lit that on fire while the home owners slept. Thankfully everyone got out, but that's the kind of area I live in. Halloween is a time to be prepared for trouble.

Not that far along in my re-watch of the series, no. I'm at the end of season 1, so I'll probably watch season 2.

Well, we can safely eliminate TOS, TAS, and Ent.... which only leaves half of the series. I'ma hope it's DS9. I loves me my DS9. :) More than likely though.... if they have all seven seasons of a show.... it's probably TNG. That's the only one I've ever seen readily available in a complete set, not pirated, in a store, for an affordable price. Though DS9 can be had online legit for pretty fair prices if you poke around the bay.

Good points on TOS, TAS, and Ent.  Amazon has TNG, DS9, and VOY all within $50 of each other, so I could see any of those three (assuming you weren't just eBaying it).  I'd vote for TNG, because TNG is awesome.  ;D  I actually never managed to get into DS9.  I'm not sure why not--a lot of my friends love it.

Perhaps if you gave it another go around? I didn't get into Voyager until it was in reruns in High School.

Yeah, I plan to at some point.  I've tried to convince my wife that she should give it a try with me (I'm talking about DS9, you perverts ;) ), and got a maybe.  I'd be more likely to actually do it if we were both watching it.

BTW, ditto on Voyager, other than the high school part.  :)  It pretty quickly climbed from "WTFITS" to "Hey, this isn't bad at all, actually."  (Enterprise shows no sign of doing the same.  Screw that show.)

What would y'all recommend for a Jedi costume?

A Gi, some plain looking non-creased brown pants (such as for martial arts), a sash or obi with appropriate belt, and good calf boots. Preferably leather. A robe or cloak and tabbards would also be nice touched if you can get them. Another tac is to get a sleeveless cloak and wear it over the Gi but beneath the sash or obi. That gives you a sort of flowing robes feel, and the layering of both the tabbards and the cloak, for less effort and a cooler temperature worn costume. :)

Ive thrown together a simple Sidious/Palpatine costume for Halloween, and am trying to put together an Ewok getup for my GF :)

Oh and Ill be wielding my monarch equipped with a BR module to complete the look  8)

I was just gonna do a sleeveless Gi top. Might go with the sleeveless robe as well...

It's actually fairly easy(and cheap) to do yourself. It won't be movie accurate, but it'll still look good.

I make it a point to watch Invader Zim's Halloween Episode - I love that show.

And I'll be in Sith garb, handing out candy.  The costume was a big hit last year - local kids enjoyed the saber.  Hope I'll get a FEW Jedi kids this year.

I really need a job - then I could get a second saber, and stage duels on the lawn for passers-by.  Oh well...

My Halloween Party is Saturday, rolling out Darth Severus v.1.
I've got a sci-fi horror theme going inside The Thing in the living room with the spider head and chest bursted body. Throw in a flame thrower and some dishes full of blood and we have a nice theme going.

We've got black garbage bags down the hall with a few ribs thrown in. A coccooned smiled body at the end of a hall and two giant eggs and a face huger in the blacked out bathroom. The fog machine should be adding the appropriate mist.

Outside fire pit and tarp strung over the picnic table to avoid the rain. My favorite day of the year.

More or less my idea, but I doubt I'll do it. My parents aren't very in to passing out candy, none of us get off work and home until the complex's halloween festivities are about half over, and it's supposed to be in the 80s that day here anyways.  :P Perhaps next year I shall implement my plan. Heck, if I can make or dig up a cheap dummy, I could assemble my Stormie on the porch and fight him all night. lol

Soooo.... semi-halloween related, I spontaneously did a little day project today, and now have a custom holster for my custom DL-44. One of a kind, and now, I believe I am officially the only man on earth with a Cowboy Style holster for his DL. I shall start a thread and post pics in the Costume Section later. Perhaps with a tutorial. :)

File the front sight? Heck, I busted half the barrel clean off when I built the pistol. No front sight problems for me. lol I removed the rear sight too for good measure. ;) She's 100% custom, all the way. :)

As per another thread...I offer this recipe

Cryptberry Pie

(you will note that in most of my dessert recipes, I make 2-3 minimum pies/tarts/etc...that is because it is just as easy to make several as it is to make one, just in case you drop one or friends come over etc.)

make or buy two pie crusts...I like cookie crumb for this one, graham cracker or ginger snaps

make a basic cheese cake filling or buy the no-bake (the instant is fine, just doctor it up a bit with spices)

make 3 cups of whole berry cranberry or buy three cans of whole berry not the jelly type

The ease of this dessert is in the prep, the elegance is in the construction.

Seal the cookie crust with a simple egg wash (beat an egg until smooth) and bake at 350* for 5 mins, pull out to cool (the egg wash will seal the crust and prevent soggy crust)

Warm the cranberries and strain through a collinder into a bowl to reserve the liquid/gel

Put the berries into the pie crusts, chill in freezer for 10-15 mins to set

With the cheese cake filling in hand, layer into cooled pie shells

Put the liquid/gel in a zip lock bag, seal, hold tip up and cut a small tip off, use this to make a spiral or other design on the cheese filling...you can use a tooth pick or knife tip to drag through for the classic burst pattern  :)

Bake if fresh or set up in fridge if no-bake style

realized today that my sith armor would be too bulky to wear to work where i work in production so i took my left over material and turned it into a tunic/ tabard, bought an awesome belt that looks really starwarsy and now i'm good to go for Halloween at work.

Well my Halloween Weekend started off great on Friday, but died completely on Saturday. We received a Tsunami warning caused by the earthquake in Canada which  evacuated and shut down all of the outer island.
Too bad too, I was looking forward to the downtown Halloween Hullabaloo.

Im at work right now rocking my dark jedi tabbard with a black hooded long sleve made out of long john material so itnlooks like a hooded tunic and tan pants, of course my trusty prophacy is on my belt! As soon as i get home its time to armor up in my acolyte armor! And comence treat giving from my insanly decorated porch.

If i was able to find any pumpkins that were still decent id love to give those a shot. I cant imagine using a dremmel on a pumpkin. I have a nice set of xaxto knives with pearing attachments i use for carving.

in the three years my wife and i have been in our house this is by far the best. i was dressed as a zombie with one of those animotion masks, if you have never seen one of these you need to check them out. my buddy from work was dressed in a jawa/ ghoul costume with the glowing eyes and he was just standing in our front yard not moving a muscle. i was hiding behind our garbage cans and as the kids were walking away i would creep up behind them and scare the buhjeebies out of them. my buddy would get them after i scared them so it was a double shot, nothing like teamwork to scare the crap out of the kids. later on we decided to take a walk around the developement and do a little creeping. i scared two mid teen girls so bad that they started crying, but did i stop there, hell no. i followed them all the way back to my house and my wife let one girl into our house to get away from me but lo and behold she didnt know it was my house so she cried even more. so the tally for the night was three cryers and one mom who had to use our bathroom because i literally almost scared the pee out her, so all in all it was a great night for scaring kids at my house. now to work on next years costume.

We had a kid show up in a Jawa-like costume.  We gave him extra candy for saying Utini!

I went as Sidious.

Went over to my friends house, they always have some sort of scare tactics going on, and this year i was *sort of* a part of it

I stood at the end of the driveway luring people in, so they would come to the house to get the candy, then my friends attacked up by the door. One was a creepy clown hiding in the trash can, and popping up when they passed by, the other was a werewolf that popped out of the bushes.

To my absolute delight, there were a few young Jedi that I tried to turn to the dark side ( with my Sidious voice, of course.) and as all good Jedi should, they refused to turn, and the duels began!! :D

One guy was dressed as Vader, and I gave him the proper greeting as well, then he commented on my Monarch, about how loud and bright it was and of course I threw an Ultra Sabers sales plug at him. He said he was familiar but they were a bit expensive for him, but after seeing one in person, I think he might reconsider ;)

Overall, it was a blast, the only downside was the fact that I couldnt feel my hands by the end of the night :P

YESSSSSSS... now all we need are go carts.

I need to buy a Mario hat. I got my Dad the Luigi one for his birthday and I want one soooo bad now. lol

So anyways, the subject at hand. All awesome guys, all awesome. Nice Sideous! Well, I hadn't planned on doing anything.... but particularly after yesterday's press release I couldn't go the day without being in uniform so I pulled out my 'Vader is Coming.... Look Busy.' shirt, dusted off the old Solo Vest, grabbed my Shock, and went 'Hutch Status.' Go Fanboys.  8) I'll try to upload a pic or two of it all tomorrow. I was lucky enough to pass the local Chick-Fil-A and see a friend working at the counter, so I waited till he was done with his customer and lit up outside the window, sketched a salute and flourished a couple times while he grabbed his coworkers. lol I also freaked out the Mickey-D's guys who were out for a smoke on my way home, caught a few passers by and some kids here and there, and was happily surprised to find that trick or treating was still going strong in my park at 7:40 when I got home. Since my mom wasn't home to make dinner yet, I ditched my access stuff inside and went for a walk. I got a few compliments, but a shocking number of people complimented me without having any idea what my saber was. 0_o Still, the first house I passed talked with me about it for a couple minutes and awarded me a Butterfinger (ah, so choice) so I can safely say: MANROON CAN STILL GET AWAY WITH TRICK OR TREATING! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So yeah, it was awesome. Not my top ranking haul or my best cosplay on record, sure, but the fact that at 21 with Johnny Reb sideburns and a full on stache I can still win me some candy made my night. (well, that and the Chick-Fil-A thing ;) )

Just thought I'd share. As I said in previous post, it wasn't much of a costume, particularly given what I have in the closet, but it was enough to count, and it was fun to still be able to nab a butterfinger for free while wearing goofy clothes and carrying a saber at 21 3/4. :)

My friends and I are going to dress up in quasi-victorian costumes and have a funeral procession through downtown, I even have some oil lanterns and I am going to make a coffin that will thump and bang every few minutes.
but before that we are going to reverse trick or treat, meaning we are going to knock, put up our own door that says please knock and give candy to the people inside.

I will try to get someone to take pictured of the funeral procession.

Not really doing much for Halloween. I might attend a costume party or two, and hang out with some friends in costume. I'll be wearing my Sith costume I've been working on a couple times during the week of Halloween for these things and College as well.

I'm dressing up as Dick Cheney in hunting garb and my buddy is dressing up as Harry Wittington (the guy Cheney shot in the face while hunting) My ma is an all around artist so she's going to do up the birdshot in his face and make us look old. Then my buddy's going to carry around a fake defibrillator because of Cheney's many heart attacks. Gonna pick up one of those shotguns at walmart that shoot out the smoke and we're gonna string up some fake quail. I'm gonna walk around shooting the smoke at him every once in a while and say "Whoops. Sorry Harry, thought you were a quail."

Currently planning and making two sith costumes. I'll probably use my DVA in one of my sabers.
my mums having a Halloween party the weekend after halloween

Think I'm going sleeveless tunic and leading with my AS Archon that I got grab bagged. The party is in a trusted place and I think I will indulge in the entire bag, however.

I'm probably not doing much of anything, aside from watching horror movies and maybe going over to Luna's. I might make a costume, though... Luna's avatar is a bit inspirational, although I'm too tall to be a decent Catwoman, and I don't have enough time to make a costume to my standards. Maybe Poison Ivy?

Don't know what I'll do for Halloween yet, if anything... the usual party we go to is cancelled this year due to some people taking advantage of the open bar policy and ruining a good time for everyone else.  There will be a get together for a select few of us but not until after Halloween and it's not a costume thing.  Our neighborhood is sort of stupid in a lot of ways and instead of doing Halloween on the 31st, they'll probably do it on the 1st so the kids aren't out on a school night (I hate homeowners associations.)  I want to get a good trial run with my basic costume, which is a variation of my Ren Fest garb with some Star Wars-ified elements added.  I'll try and get some pictures of it, I promise.  I dunno, I'm keeping my ears open for a costume party somewhere...

I'll be trick or treating with as a jedi with my pirate girlfriend this year, maybe throwing a late party of my own with a few friends. Camp out and make some smores at 1 in the morning. Play some monopoly or poker just for kicks. Then have a street lightsaber tournament between friends.

I... have no idea what I will be doing. It's a thursday this year so I won't be out late... might hang out with the lady, if Disney doesn't schedule her that night, but my bro will be out of town. *shrug* Probably just grab my saber and gear and hit the streets for half an hour then watch Empire or something. lol

Awwww yissssss. Do Poison Ivy this year, then by next year it will be perfected and I can make a Catwoman costume. The claws could be an issue, but I have an entire year.

Just get your nails done...$30 or so for a full set  :D

or grow them, even cheaper!

I think we will be doing the unthinkable and abstaining from Samhain this year... Might take the boys to a corn maze or something if my family is even still around by then. Debating on if I want to even do a pumpkin, and if so, what to carve. Suggestions?

I think I might carve a pumpkin this year, since I haven't in years. Maybe I'll sit outside with one of my sabers and hand out candy, if it's not too cold.

last year I carved a jack-o-lantern then left a chainsaw most of the way through it, this year I I will make an awesome Jack-o-lantern and cut it all the way in half.

ooh, I know I need a plastic pumpkin to wear over my head! then I can pretent to be a scare crow scare the fecal matter out of the local children!

To be honest, I prefer Jack-o-Lanterns with a "Classic" look. Pointy, spiked mouths and frightening expressions.

you know what? I agree, for the most part. I never was very good at carving pumpkins.

To me it's not about carving one well or super detailed. I'm an art student in college, so I'm sure I could carve an exceptional pumpkin. But, for some reason, I'm just drawn to that classic face. It has a sort of effect on the psychology. It's demonic, but simple. It's an image that gets the point across without much detail.

Back in the day, Jack-o-Lanterns were carved to ward off evil spirits. That face makes me think of a dark guardian of Hallow's Eve. It's clean, and mysterious. Is it evil? Or is it just a face to scare away the things that go bump in the night?

It just pleases me.

ive never carved a pumpkin. Halloween isn't such a big thing here in Oz. As a kid we only had one street in our lil country town that trick or treated coz they had a few americans that lived on the street- they were also the only street that'd get decked up in Christmas lights. mind you, we didn't have many streets.

ive made paper mache jack o lanterns though. they last longer that way

I'll be using my mother's and my own makeup skills to appear male.

I'll be getting a male haircut as well, which I'll probably regret, but I don't have much of a life right now so it won't matter that much.

SOTJ will provide vocal coaching, although that bit won't be too hard because my voice is fairly low anyway.

There are certain other things to conceal, of course, but Tetch wears several layers so that won't be very difficult.

The height is also an issue, but if I recall right, he was average height in the early 80s, so I'm somewhere in between the portrayals.

Which style of Tetch?  Comic?  Arkham City?

My own spin on him, combining my favorite aspects of all of his appearances. A somewhat more orderly version of Arkham City with more of the bright colors of the comics, and Peter MacNicol's voice, or something along those lines.

The hat is becoming a serious problem, though. All good options are priced like... good options.

yeah, I paid $65 for my top hat, which I would offer to lend to you but I am planning to wear it on Halloween, sorry.

Do you know how to sew?  And do you have access to a top hat pattern?

Alternatively, could you find a head shop that sells those tall hats that were popular in the 90s and alter one of those?

Of course it always looks better about three days after Halloween when it starts to rot around the eyes and mouth.

Print up some business cards on your computer ($3-$4) that you can hand out, some folks might not know the character and the cards make sense for the abilities  :D

Anyone else think it's funny that our parents always told us to never take candy from strangers... But every Halloween we do exactly that?

Walked and competed in a local Zombie walk for charity...I won the adult division...donated my prizes back to the charity for reissue :)

Walked a mile along with 2000+ other zombies, hunters, survivors, and lots of weirdos...I mean to say a pack of furries, a goth couple wearing black and white checkered outfits, superman and batman, etc.

The whole walk was loaded with people, I did the off center shamble...one shoe one and one shoe off...:D

Parents and Churches have pretty much destroyed Halloween around where I live, especially considering I live in the Bible Belt in an area of high religious zealousness. You know. Halloween = Satan and all of that nonsense (poisoned candy, razor blade apples, etc), even though most of them do not even know the true and honest origin of the holiday. It's all of the Trunk-or-Treating at the Churches now. With hardly any candy, sweets, or tomfoolery.

Very nice facial effects there, Rel - kudos!  Might one ask how you did that?

Haunted house basics lol...liquid latex ($8), layered/blow dried to create a base layer, liquid latex and torn toilet tissue to create a second skin, leave wet, move onto another section then come back and press the wet tissue/latex to create skin sloughing and rips, paint in red with acrylic paint to create a base for the torn sections, repeat, blow dry, touch the low points with black, blowdry, touch up high points with cheap mart-wal cover powder ($2)...final touches I used dirt and weeds to create a just on the ground look.

I understand your plight oh too well.  This is not trying to be religious but factual.  Halloween is the only holiday created by Christianity.  The others were either Jewish or pagan that received a twist. 

I am cool with the kids dressing up and getting candy.  It has in some ways become a huge time for vandalism though and that is where I usually have issue.  TP in the trees and houses is fine.  Silly string is cool too.  I have had the unfortunate experience of seeing people set fires to synagogues, mosques, churches, community centers, and senior centers and when caught tried to claim it was a Halloween prank.  Cars having windows bashed in because someone was Halloween "pranking." 

You also have the highest reports of animals being stolen and the acceptable answer by communities is that it is "Satanists" doing sacrifices when often times it is someone using Halloween as a cover to resell an expensive pet. 

I love Halloween because it gives me joy to see everyone's creativity and a chance to meet my neighbors.  I love to see the joy on people's faces when they get their candy or getting to see an adult Halloween party with some adult beverages being served. 

Like anything, it will have both an upside and a downside but I think the religious argument is disingenuous and a little hypocritical. 

Not to be a jerk, but Halloween is at least somewhat centered around the Celtic tradition of Samhain...

I am in the process of creating an adult Halloween Mask Ball...adult meaning over 18yrs and not X or NC17 lol.

I have not had to deal with any of these rough issues...so far all my Halloweens have been fun and no major pranks.  I have worked and built dozens of haunted houses, made up hundreds of zombies, etc.

You're not being one.  I had heard that.  The costuming part, which will cause almost riots in the region known as BB, has it's origins in this document I kept from time I spent with the HRCC:


"Part of the history of Halloween  is Halloween costumes. The practice of dressing up in costumes and begging door to door for treats on holidays goes back to the Middle Ages. Trick-or-treating resembles the late medieval practice of "souling," when poor folk would go door to door on Hallowmas (November 1), receiving food in return for prayers for the dead on All Souls Day (November 2). It originated in Ireland and Britain, although similar practices for the souls of the dead were found as far south as Italy. Shakespeare mentions the practice in his comedy The Two Gentlemen of Verona (1593), when Speed accuses his master of 'puling [whimpering, whining], like a beggar at Hallowmas.'"


Prayers for the dead have a huge root in the HRCC. 


To me, Halloween is the most fun that one can have as a child and it helps some adults to loosen up.  I am always amazed at the amount of creativity some people have when creating a costume.  I watched a guy that worked in the material management department make a complete Sub-Zero costume and used dry ice in pouches along the costume to create a cold aura around him.  I heard that he added some gray the next year and created a Smoke rendition the next.
