Title: 'mandalorian' saber font
Post by: dhenwood on January 26, 2013, 06:37:17 PM
challenge for anyone out there who loves to make fonts, in the clone wars series 2 there is a mandalorian with a very old lightsaber that has a black core. it produces a really cool high pitched lightsaber sound id love to see someone produce that font. il post a link to the episode when i find it, perhaps someone could give it a go (it is a very cool sound) anyone know the saber sounds im talkign about?

I know exactly what your talking about and have thought about making that font, but just need to find the time/effort to get started on it.
Edit
Actually after looking through some of my files I started on the ignition sound so I have started it, but its nowhere finished. tehe   :D

For those of you who don't know, this is the saber he is talking about.

That is a really interesting ancient saber. I like the shape of the blade. And it sounds interesting. I wouldn't mind hearing a font based on it.

In the mean time while I'am working on this I suggest you guys check out/download my sound font named Zephyr in the free fonts thread.   http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=11414.0 (http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=11414.0)  It is quite different than what your probably used to and has a similar sound/feel to the the vibro light blade that Viza uses.  :)

Hey Big Boss.

Just finished capturing the sounds when I read you are in, too!  ;D

I'll send you my captures. Maybe together we already have all it needs! Send your pack to eerockk, when you are finished.

Greetings.

This would be a really cool font. It would go good too if you have an AS Standard Issue saber with Obsidian.

Ha, the sith and mando working together.  :D I'll work a bit more on capturing/working on what sounds I have and will send them to errock and you when I'am done later on today or tomorrow so it can start being pieced together.  :)

Thanks eerockk,

think you will have to adjust your clash-technique with so many fonts coming your way ...  ;D Great job as always. Here, you really were my eyes and ears, cause I couldn't test it myself. I like it very much and this will definitely be my next font on the Obsidian.

And point for Moderator Big Boss for the excellent cooperation. Hope there will be more concerted action in the future ... it's so good to combine our efforts!

I like fonts that sound different like this and this is a uniquely sounding font different from anything
in the star wars universe,  reminds me of font that would be great on a katana saber

Thanks again eeroock for another great review and thank you Darth Sabre for your help as well. Point to you both. I didn't think this font would be completed so quickly, but here we are with it all done.  :D  8)

Get you an AS Standard Issue saber. I think this certain font will go perfect with the Standard Issue in AS. Just a suggestion. xp

This is such an awesome font! REALLY great work guys!

One thing tho, I dunno squat about making fonts so bear with me, but is there a way to make the hum and swings go more together? I notice the hum stops and then picks up again when the swing/clash is over.

Title: Re: 'mandalorian' saber font
Post by: Ninja-Jedi on February 01, 2013, 12:00:22 AM
in the cases where you here pauses or restarts it because the main hum needs to be overlayed with the swings or clashes

That is a *SICK* font. Well done.

Does US honor requests for specific fonts when a saber is purchased? Because I'd def pick this one....

Unfortunately this font was posted way before I was around. I'm not sure anyone has it. It may have to be recreated. I may look into doing it.

Was this the darksaber font? Or something else? I know I have a darksaber font, I'd like to work on it though because the swings don't lead into the hum. That's why it may be the font discussed in here. I also made a "For Mandalore!" Boot font, because it's hilariously valorous.

I don't know, listen to the video posted at the front of the post and tell me if it's the same.

Oh I hadn't seen those. I'll take a listen soon, I'm pretty sure I have it and can upload it to Dropbox and upload a V2 version of it that smoothes out the hum and swings

also hope US will one day make a hilt design based on the mandalorian darksaber
in my opinion it doesnt have to be 100% replicated but at the very least detailed to look mandalorian themed

I don't think they ever would. It's more an issue of if they could. The rectangular shape of the hilt would make it difficult to fit a conventional electronics set up in there. Technically, they could put the speaker in sideways and give it a side sound vent, and a side compartment with access to the battery pack, but they'd still need the vertical space for the soundboard and other things. And I certainly wouldn't want US to make another giant hilt.

Also, here's the dark saber font  ;) I may work on a V2

well im not asking for 100% acurracy
it could still be cylindrical just detailed to look mandalorian themed
also thank you for the darksaber font id love to see v2

Yeah that's a good point. I go overboard with accuracy  ::) that's why I'm putting my Graflex guts into a Graflex replica. ultrasabers could definitely do a cylindrical dark saber with the focus being the emitter. And possibly a grey color scheme, I don't think they've done that.

and i suppose a violet blade is closest to black. heres to hoping

look forward to the v2 darksaber font

I started making my own Mandorian font. I'm a little stuck on finishing it at the moment. It takes some creativity on that one to make it work. I'm sure a dark saberfont from projectno's will sound way different.

Id use a white blade for it. If I really want to I'd use electrical tape on the sides or a black core. There are tons of experiments on this with some working decently.

I took some time to smooth the font out. I may consider grabbing more audio from the episodes to fill out the swing and clash banks, but for now the original font has been cleaned up and tweaked. Here you go  ;)

Darksaber V2:

P.S. This scene is beautiful. Who doesn't love a Mandalorian destroying with a lightsaber, and the darksaber at that.

Love the font, it sounds amazing! Just one thing, though, why does it sound like a recording of the sounds? They all seem a bit muddy and muted, compared to most fonts.

Mostly power on 2 and power off 3

Mostly power on 2 and power off 3

I know that some of the sounds used sounded like a lower quality, but I seem to remember it only being some swings that I omitted. Power on 2 and power off 3 are reverse of each other, so it's the same audio
