Ultrasabers is extremely excited to present the Menace. The new Menace brings one of the most coveted and loved saber designs to the Ultrasabers lineup. The Menace is of course fully made of T6 Aircraft Aluminum and combat ready. The Menace is available in 5 different finishes: High Polish (SE), Black Anodize (Dark), Red Anodize (Crimson), Blue Anodize (Azure), and Nickel Plated Finish (CE). The emitter is also available in 4 different styles. You can get the emitter underlay in Silver or Black and also with or without Windows. In addition to that you can also stylize your Menace by selecting the color of all 3 Knurled Screws on the hilt. The Menace is able to accommodate sound installs, Emerald LED driver installs, and has a MHS compatible emitter & pommel as well.

The Menace comes standard with a Black Covertec wheel. The Menace comes standard with a 36" blade, is 1.5" wide at the grip, and 10.375" long from the top of the emitter to the bottom of the pommel (11.250" long with Recharge Port installs or Emerald Driver installs). The saber comes completely assembled and ready to go. The pommel and emitter are removable and compatible with TCSS MHS parts. Sound and the Emerald LED driver are also available options.

Both Standard Setup and Li-Ion Setup work perfectly for a Menace with No Sound. However, Li-Ion Setup is mandatory in order to add sound or the Emerald driver to the Menace.

I know I am not the only one who has been waiting for this to come out.  The CE is by far the most beautiful of the bunch.  I think it most closely resembles Maul's saber in TPM.  I hope to hear others opinions on this as well.

I would get a Crimson with yellow blade and an Azure with green blade for a fabulously colorful staff.  Yes, I'm prepared to be the court jester as it would just be too much fun.  And I have several "serious" staffs already.  Well done Ultra Sabers!  ;D

I like this idea Dauntless, Im still working on my serious sabers. I don't think I can go so colorful just yet, but I would love to see it when/if you ever put it together.

This is a truly amazing saber! Now I can't decide whether to get this or the Flamberge next! Concerning the silver ones the shinier one is high polish and the darker one is nickel plated right?

I'm liking the SE model with the black underlay and no windowed emitter.  VA standard MG blade with a blue AV.  Sigh, this place keep me from having money... :P

Any-who-who...  Despite my seemingly nitpicking of the prototype, I have to give will deserved kudos to the guys at Ultra Sabers for releasing the Menace, especially with all the available options.  In my opinion, it's a must have cannon saber...  And I will be ordering a matched set of CE's myself.

I'm beside myself trying to decide on going "purist" and getting the black underlay, or go with my tastes which say get the silver. Going with windows either way. TOO MANY OPTIONS!!!

Does anyone know if the underlays are interchangeable? Or are they a permanent fixture once ordered?

I'd like to know what coupler was used in the pic of the double-bladed Menace. Is that the Standard V3 coupler or a special one designed for the Menace? Also, would it be possible to refine them so that the knobs and switches can align without having to buy an adjustable coupler?

They are interchangeable.  We are considering listing them and the screws separately in the parts section.

That blue Menace is definitely on my wish list!  So far my collection consists of 7 sabers that are a combination of black and silver and 1 Crimson Reaper.  I definitely need to add some more color with a blue saber.

It's a tough choice. My first inclination was to go for high polish, but nickel seems closer to the movie hilt. It depends how it's shown, it seems...

Am I right in thinking that the Dark Catalyst pommel would fit flush (i.e. is the same width) as the bottom of this saber? I'm thinking of rocking one of these as a single saber and would like to spice up the end a little bit.

This saber is amazing as a single hilt.. But you know you eventually have to make it a double bladed saber!!   It's an iconic saber!!  It must be done!!

I feel you on this. (Why does the catalyst pommel just look so right on so many sabers?) I looked it up for you. The OD of the body at the grip (which looks like it continues to the pommel) is 1.5". The Catalyst pommel is only 1.4" at the widest point. I tried to confirm this by checking the OD of the Catalyst itself, but that info is not listed. Maybe a Shock pommel will suit your purposes.

Thanks. I was thinking of the Dark Shock as well. I have a Shock LE already so I can always try that to get a feel for the dimensions. I thought that the OD might be for the outer rings of the grip, but I think you're right, it probably goes right down to the pommel.

Technically yes, it is the diameter of the grip "rings" but that's because the rings run level to the body. The effect is acheived by cutting grooves into the body, unlike the Raven which actually has raised grips.

What a great looking saber! i do not see the emitter int he build your own shop yet but i know i will be getting one of these once it is in there!

'Nother question. The staff shown in the pics is assembled by a fully concealed coupler, but it also shows an illuminated AV switch, indicating sound. Was this done merely to show its resemblence to Maul's staff, or can the sound function without a vented coupler for this saber?

I do not believe so.  In the video Emory specifically stated you will need a vented coupler or you would crush the speaker...

Well poop. Now we're going to have to bug Deep to put out a series of CE couplers to go with the silver and black.

That might be the next released item....Maybe just before the Flamberge gets officially released.

I certainly hope so. I initially wanted to staff a pair of Manticore CEs with the silver adjustable coupler. Saw it...not working for me any more. I now want a Menace CE staff, and would really love the CE to run the entire length of the staff.

BTW. For those interested. Menace emitters (SE, Dark, & CE) have hit the listings.

This is a question that could be hard to put into words. I like the look of the silver surrounded by silver switch better than the silver surrounded by black(guarded?) switch. So to get the silver surrounded by silver switch do I have to get an AV switch or just sound?

Non illuminated AV switch

Unless I am mistaken, even the non illuminated av switch only comes with sabers equipped with sound.  Consequently, you will have to purchase a "saber with sound" and then in the options you can choose an av switch, illuminated or otherwise.  you could email us and ask if it is possible to get an av switch on a stunt saber (no sound)... I can bet that an illuminated switch would need the lithium ion batter pack though which is on the sound sabers... Maybe that is why the av switch is not available on stunts.... Not sure....

Has anyone opted for the Recharge Port on the new Menace yet? I'm curious where they put it that adds the 0.875" to the overall length.

The only reason why you can get the AV with sound only is that US uses mainly momentary AV switches that work only with sound sabers (it has nothing to do with the battery setup, only with the way a momentary switch functions). The latching AV switches used for stunt Graflexes, Chosen Ones and Malices can only be installed with an activation box. However, "the other guys" have a part called "Momentary-to-Latching Converter" which can be used to wire a momentary switch into a stunt (= latching) setup. This works for illuminated switches as well as non-illuminated. But you have to build the saber with such a setup on your own, US won't do that for you. Finding latching AV switches that fit without an activation box is a bit more difficult...

I would take a greater interest in stunt sabers if they did. I personally detest the look of the standard switch. I hate to sound harsh, but it thoroughly displeases my aesthetic palet.

Slightly off topic: What is the difference between the Red and Silver standard switches? I've the silver tipped switches on Initiate style sabers several times, but a friend just got a Dominix V4 yesterday, with a RED tipped switch. We're both at a loss.

There's no difference. Both work exactly the same. It's just an optical highlight. I remember reading somewhere that US sometimes tries to match the switch colour with the blade colour where possible...but I don't know the thread link anymore.

OK, thanks. Although the blade color was FO. Either way, he liked it all the same. Correction, he LOVED it. It was his first.

Now that the Menace is now available(WOOT!) we definitely need a Maul font.  If I had a little more practice/time with the respective programs I would consider making one.  I have made two character based fonts but alas they are too weak to use. 

However, I have successfully made comprehensive boot fonts based on the CW Darth Maul which will go quite well with the new Menace.  And if you guys play around with the fonts they could be used in conjunction with an ignition or power down.

How will we know when a new sound font is available for download?

I assume the "Obsidian Order" section is the icon listed under the sabers with sound menu?

No, it's a forum section. It contains many information on the Obsidian sound board, its settings, troubleshooting and also a section where forum members can present their own sound fonts :)

Oh. Back to my initial query. When might there be new sound fonts available on US.com?

I didn't know who to quote on my switch question so I just won't. On my standard issue v3 staff with sound I didn't get any AV switches but I still got the silver surrounded by silver instead of the standard switch. That could suggest ONLY needing to get sound?   

I got a Phantasm initiate staff for my two little brothers in VA and AB and the VA has a silver tipped switch and the AB has a sort of GB tip. So if your friend has a red switch for a FO blade that would suggest that they use similar coloured switches with SOME colours.

That's right. As soon as you customize a sound saber, options for the AV switch are available. Exceptions are only stunt Graflexes, Malices and Chosen Ones which can also be ordered with AV switches because of the activation boxes attached to the sabers :)

That's good news! I can get the switch I want for no extra charge(provided I get sound ;)).

Not quite, sadly. The price of an AV switch is $25 if it's added separately rather than as part of the pre-existing setup (Malice, Chosen One, Graflex). On some hilt's it's worth it, on some not, but if/when I order a Menace, I'll be getting it, for example.

What I mean is I don't need an AV switch for the switch I want? I didn't get an AV switch(s) on my Standard issue staff and still got the cool switch.

Guys my 2 menaces' SE version came I tonight and holy god it's so beautiful. Everyone, if you are thinking about getting a menace, go for gold and get 2. It's so worth it.

Oh yes. My 2 sabers are connected by an adjustable vented coupler.

Sorry if I'm to curious. They're short hilts so when connected does the longish flush coupler look to long? Did you get any AV switches? If you didn't did you get the standard silver tipped black rimmed switches or the cooler(in my opinion ;)) all silver switches?

Normally you explicitly have to choose the AV switch while customizing. If you got an AV without choosing it, then you were quite lucky ;) It happens sometimes - I think especially when US has an excess of them.

I already ordered my first Menace. If When I order a second to make a staff from, can I get it assembled minus the Covertec and have a button-head screw in its place?

There isn't any change on the switch when I turn it on and there isn't a non illuminated circle surrounding the button. Does that still suggest an AV?

If you plan on ever having a double bladed lightsaber you definitely want to go with the 32 inch blade or shorter. I saw a video of someone who connected 2 guardians both with 36 inch blades and the saber had to have been over 7 feet long and it just looked difficult to use.

When my Phantasm V4 was sent to me I got the hilts sent to me with 36" blades on both of the Aeon V4's... its very unwieldy and difficult to attempt anything.  I plan on cutting them down probably to about 30" each then they should be a whole lot easier to use.  I used my kids initiate (24") blades on it and that was too short, so thats why I though 30" would be about right.  36" is way too long for staff blades.

I can't wait for mine to get here! Got one of these bad boys in CG to counter my BR Consular, and to enter the Raffle! Soooooo excited!!!!!!

My standard issue staff(only saber for NOW ;)) has 36 inch blades and I'm 13 and about 4 ft 10(I know I'm short). If your used to it It's usable but I hit the ground a few times(poor blade tips). I got the 36 inch blades because I usually use them as single sabers and I wanted it to be roughly the size of a Lightsaber.

OK so I got lucky with free AV's. I'm guessing no but can you send sabers in for AV's AFTER they have regular switches?. Just to make sure I get this right, sound plus NO AV's = regular switch?

It's possible to upgrade from the guarded switch to an AV switch. If you know about electronics and such things, you can even do it yourself. Otherwise you can always send the hilt back to US and let them do the upgrade.

And yes, if you don't choose an AV switch on a sound saber, then the saber always comes with a standard guarded switch (the black ones made from plastic).

Bought a V-A coupler to test and put my Scorpion and Chosen One together. I only have 36" blades, so yeah, getting it through the house was trying with only about 1" clearence to the ceiling.

In oother news, Menace CE came in yesterday. I'd say it was my first CE, but it really is just the first nickel finish in my collection. It is beautiful, with its Bane's Heart. I shines like a new penny. The emitter is sick looking, and very complex, but the visual is worth the complexity. But the acquisition felt a little hollow, like the saber wasn't whole. I'll probably feel better once I've staffed it  ;D

I'd rather not. It was an epic hot mess. I took it to a friend's for a test spar. The bolt came loose and the staff came apart, and the bolt got stuck on my Scorp's speaker. It had me very worried about why it was suddenly so quiet. It will cost a little more, but they should have used stainless for those.

I will eventually have a Scorpion staff. And there will definitely be pics.

It'll feel very complete when you get the other side. I had such a difficult time deciding if I was going to order just one or go ahead and get 2. I finally came to the conclusion that if I got just one, I knew i'd be getting the second one very soon after, and I just wanted to pay one shipping price, so I got them both at the same time.

That's pretty cool! How much does it cost to send a saber in for an AV if you don't count the shipping? Thanks for telling me both of those things and I believe my switch queries have finally come to an end :).

I wonder if Ultrasabers is going to create a flush coupler with vents, adjustable and non adjustable, in the red and blue color. It would kinda suck to have this awesome blue menace staff with a black or silver coupler.

My wife and I are creating lightsaber choreography just for fun, and I used one of my menace sabers and it's easily the best saber I have for dueling. I think the fact that it has 3 blade holder screws really makes the blade feel secure. The 32 inch blade is also great for dueling.

I'm working on that. I've not had much luck on that front.

Ha - that won't work- i just got another v3 Initiate in Green - to complete a Staff I hope to one day start teaching her self-defense with.  (Going to make sure she gets plenty of Star Wars exposure- hope is she latches on to Ahsoka Tano from Clone Wars - that way she'll just be "playing Ahsoka " and in reality she'll be learning as well.)

PS - I'm customizing the Hilt with a Purple anodized look - will post pics when done.

If I was going for a novelty color setup on this - I'd go Crimson and Azure for the Staff Hilts and Adegan Silver for both of the Blade colors.

The issue with a patriotic colour scheme is that it's patriotic even for a contry you have nothing to do with :p
   Red white blue appears, as well as elsewhere, as the three colours on the flags of Nepal, Panama, and Cuba. Oh, and Slovenia.

This is why countries have flags and not just colour schemes ;)

Even the Australian flag is red, white and blue  :)

Dark Menace with AS blade could represent a pirates skull & cross bones, aaarrrr  :P

I say that because - based on the pictures of them within the US store - I've never truly loved either the Azure or Crimson models.  They were low on my priority list; the Blue looked really bright.

But this Saber you posted - man, that looks really sharp.

The Blue is much deeper looking in that pic.

Would you say that's closer to what it looks like in person versus the seemingly lighter look on the storefront?

I think this pic was made with some adjustments regarding brightness, so the hilt appears darker than it actually looks like in normal light. The colour on the US website is probably the more accurate one than in this pic.

I just ordered the azure menace with a yellow blade (forgot to put in the code for the raffle).  Had a difficult time deciding to get the windows or not, but alas, I went black background, no windows.  I'll get pics up when I get it in.

To me the blue is definately deeper in person, but it would depend on the lighting.... My pic was taken in afternoon daylight next to a window but when I focus on the blade the hilt does come out a bit darker.... I don't have a pic without the blade on, but I do have a pic of another azure US with this Menace emitter and I've put a quick side by side with a pic from the US site (top) to see the difference.... That is ambitious. You do know that you'll have to completely disassemble the saber to anodize, right? I was going to get select parts of my Mantis anodized Gold or Nickel to make it truly CE. I will be doing the claws, collar, grip shroud, and pommel minus spikes. I will definitely post pics if it's pulled off.

Oh - crap!  So I shouldn't have given it an acid bath with the electronics still in? It hasn't worked since- but I just thought it wasn't dry yet!

No - if you look again- I just said I wanted an anodized "look".

I'm using Dupli-color "Metalcast" which is exactly that - it gives metal an appearance similar to anodized.

Used a light coat of the Ground Coat, 2 coats of Purple, another light mist of Ground Coat followed by 2 more coats of Purple.

The key is to use really light coats - just give them an evenly covered misting each coat.

Finishing it with the Clear Dupli-color ceramic engine enamel to protect it.

For what I was looking for out of two v3 Initiates - it's turning out perfect.

I'll post some pics in the Customization area of the forum when complete.

I may well do a real anodize at some point - I have no probles taking the guts out - pretty handy with both Home & Hobby electrical.

Had to make sure. I work for an aluminum extruder, and one of our sister companies is an anodizer. I plan to have my components thrown in with someone else's production run of that color. Since they're small, I should be able to get away with it for 0 cost.

What I like most about this mod idea is that I can disassemble the Mantis down to the elbow, which is where all the guts are anchored. I could go full bore color change with only the silver left on the bend, but I love good color variation on a saber.

Nice - I'd like to see that.  That's why I go back & forth on my feelings about the Mantis CE - sometimes I love the all silver look - other times I feel its too plain and needs some variation as you said - so on those days I think I'd order a Dark Mantis.

My initial concept was to do an Ebony & Ivory scheme once I figure out how to get a good black blade. I wanted a Mantis CE w/ black blade and a Dark Mantis w/ AS blade. Awesome. The Mantis "CE" I feel is a misnomer as the CE is typically applied to the nickel finish. The Manticore CE gives the option of full nickel plating or full high polish. It is my opinion the the silver Mantis should have been designated SE not CE.

Coincidentally- I just watched the Clone Wars episodes w/ the Darksaber last night, so I was actually contemplating the best way to do that.

I hate the Dark Saber as much as I hate the light whip. You can't bend and shape light like that. I don't care that it's sci-fi.

Hi Cinci.  Nice photos and the yellow blade and av looks better than I thought.  I had wanted to get an Azure with a pink blade, but am now favoring the Crimson or Black versions.  If only one of each was possible.  Point for you. :)

The Menace emitters are by far my favorite.
I ended up putting two of them on my silver
finish Flamberge crossguards. Very elegant.

Quick disconnects are the way to go on the Menace, order it in BH and get a SY to swap it up..... Actually that got me thinking, the Stealth Dark Menace with a SY blade would look amazing, oh great, there's another one to add to my wishlist, haha......  :P

Also, to those that haven't yet seen the awesomeness known as the Flamberge...there are limits to what types of emitters can fit into the main socket. Personally I think they should have put the same type of extension on the main that they put on the crossguard emitters.

As Darth Logos already alluded, the Flamberge
is limited to MHS compat on main emitter. Although,
I found that the Warglaive emitter fits and looks
dang good with the menace emitters on cross guard.

Cinci, as I was looking at your pictures of your Azure Menace, I think the color of the pommel screw cap and the emitter window sleeve are slightly lighter than the rest of the hilt.  My Azure Menace also looks that way.  Please tell me if the color looks lighter to you on the actual saber and in the pictures.  Thanks.  Here's pictures of mine.

The emitter does look a slight shade different, though not as noticeable as on the picture of your saber.  The pommel is noticeably different on mine, similar to the picture of your saber.

I bought 2 menace sabers a few months back. A friend of mine recently bought a set as well. We noticed that there's a difference in hilt length. His are slightly longer, 3 cm or so, between the bottom fake button/screw and the pommel area. Has there been a change to the hilt length? His has the Emerald driver whereas mine does not. Not sure if that would require a different length hilt or not.

A longer variant of the Menace is require for recharge port and/or Emerald installs.

Yes, mine is about 1.25" longer because of the Emerald driver.  :)

God I need this saber so bad. I want a single blade version though Clone Wars style and might send it in to the one guy that does weathering services now. Sorry I forget names easily x.x Then have an exposable crystal in the pommel somehow. That would look slick =]

I so enjoy playful harmless banter.  But to follow your advice and stay on target.  Wish that I had just gotten the Menace CE that I really wanted.  Saw that DotD for the dark one and in a moment of indecision went with that.  Still regret my choice as there are loads of dark sabers to be had.  I like mine and am going to ask to purchase some all silver decorative screws.  Would imagine that you have a red blade in yours.

I hear you D7, there's only 2 hilts I want duplicates of, the Shock and the Menace. I've said it many times but the Dark Menace is on my wish list. Hard to commit to when there are other individual ones to think about.

I've followed through with an originally conceived saber build and have been disappointed, and I've changed my mind last minute with the same kind of thing and have been extremely happy with it. But either way have found going with your gut decision proves for the best results.

If you've noticed, I have a different color MHS on every hilt that has disconnects capability. But yes, the BH looks particularly excellent on a nickel finished hilt.

My original intent was to get a Menace CE, and eventually staff it. I wanted the replica look, but the CE just had more personality, and the silver underlay looked sweet. Then I conceived of the Stealth Menace, and was then like "Great, now I need to get 2 Menace staffs."  :'( So much money......that I don't have.

That's actually really good advice, at least I think it is.

I agree. I certainly bought my first couple of sabers as either a Grab Bag or what was on DotD.  Great for getting started but now I plan.

Just for movie replicas, I know I want a CG Consular, GB Guardian, BT Chosen One, AB Graflex and CO Archon v3.  And that is without looking at fun stuff like a ST Sentinel Staff (love KOTOR) or DVA / PO Dark Warglaive / Raven (because Sith hilts are cool).

Now it's going to take me years to buy all of those. So I will wait until there is another sale on, and slowly over time, one by one, tick the above off my list.

The CE did look very cool.  What put me off was the lack of suitable couplers.  I'm just to analyse that the difference between hilt and coupler, between Nickel and Silver, would bother me every time.  Plus SE closer to movie replica.

Final determinant in my getting SE staff was when it came up on DotD whilst last Sale was on. The combined discounts on both parts of staff saved me $85. I took that as a sign that I was meant to buy it!!!

Personally not as sold on Dark Menace. I love my anodised black hilts but only if they have silver accents to contrast (I have Dominix vs LE, Bellicose, Dark DI and Dark Catalyst so you can see I REALLY like black and silver hilts).

But that is beauty of Ultrasabers in that they can offer the Menace in SE/CE/Dark versions and we will all have our personal preferences! Either way whichever one you go for, I am sure that you will love it.

I agree! The Ce is the most appealing... but I want two to make a double blade saber just like you know who and I'll probably buy the SE. By the way, can you tell me if the sound is loud enough on a double blade. I'm a new comer and I don't even have received my first saber yet (a guardian). Thank you.

First time poster and buyer here!

After doing lots of research online i finally bit the bullet and purchased my first saber.

I purchased my Menace last week, beforehand i informed about the out of stock delay.
I was told it would probably be about 3-4 weeks.

To my suprise when i purchased it, it shipped the same day and i received it 6 days after that.
Pretty awesome if i do say so myself, maybe i just got lucky with the stock or something.

I am really impressed with the craftsmanship of this Saber.
I will definitely return to purchase another saber in the near future  :).

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on your first saber! The Menace is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship. I'm happy to hear you are satisfied with it  :)  What options did you get for it, if you don't mind my asking?

I got the SE version of the Menace, since i wanted to stay true to the original colour of the hilt.
Got it with Obsidian Lite and a red light up AV Switch.

I was really on the fence wether to get sound or not, but then i realized it would be more like a pretty glowstick without sound.

Really happy i chose to take it with sound, it sounds great :).

I already have my eye on the Guardian saber for my next purchase.

The Guardian is another of the more detailed sabers offered here. It will go great next to your Menace SE!

It may look dark and sithy to some, but I like to describe my Dark Menace staff (Emerald) with the knurled buttons replaced by small brushed finish thumbscrews, silver AV, Silver underlay with windows, as my "Tuxedo Saber".  It's very classy and elegant, and not at all sithy, honest, really, you can trust me...

We must see a current photo to best judge your honesty and intentions.   :P

Totally agree.  These off topic tangents while so much fun, can be frustrating to those that are seeking some help and solid information.  But these zigs and zags are what make this Forum so special and user friendy for all of us with compromised attention spans and also are high options personalities with limited narrow focus ( not me but there are some here ).   ;)

Another good review and I commented on your Menace thread.  I like that fun customization and your creative ideas are always a pleasure to see.   :D

A few minor changes - Menace SE with button screws making it a little more duelling friendly and Dark Menace with all red control knobs and a silver covertec. The emerald driver in the Dark Menace is apparent in this side x side shot.

Wow, the one with Emerald is much longer than I expected. Looks like it may be on par with the length of the Manticore in that setup.

Yeah it's a different feel with the extra 3/4 inches and puts it back on par with the other standard premium hilts.  It's something to consider especially if you are aiming for that tight compact feel, then non-emerald with QD's is the way to go.  I like having both of course :P ;D

The red screws will eventually go back on the SE when I acquire all silver ones for the Dark Menace for that black/silver symmetry.

That's gonna look sick! Can't wait to see that sleek black and silver Menace

I'm sure that's something you could do yourself, with an empty standard Menace.  It'd mean more work for you, but short of getting 249 of your friends to buy one as well, I doubt we'd see one from US any time soon.

I am pretty sure I am not only one who wants a green one I mean not only green is a prime color like red and blue it is also one of three main color of a lightsaber I am surprised the three didn't released together to be honest

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Since you want a green one for a project and it's not offered as an option, I would just get a black or silver [depending how you want to weather it] and paint it yourself. That'll make your saber more unique than the rest 8)

If only I was not sucking at said jobs I would do that myself long time ago It is nothing fancy just top to bottom colored hilts hanging on a wall in certain way Maybe a couple of stickers on them for uniquness but I cant do more than that myself

I really dig my Dark Menaces, but other than my DM staff, they tend to be reconfigured with different MHS bits.  And here I'll drop a small note that I have in mind to pick up a Menace SE empty hilt...but it'll change substantially from stock before I'm done with it.

Ok, so i've been looking over the Crimson Menace (I have too many damn build ideas going through my head) and have a few questions.

In the details, it gives 2 different lengths as available (1" longer with recharge port or Emerald). All the pictures look the same length, and there are no broken down pictures, so can someone explain / show where this extra length comes from? If I were to order an empty hilt, would I just note in the comments I wanted the longer version?

Also, I notice it has what looks like 2 small accent LEDs on the hilt. Are these actually functional, or just for show? If just for show, could they easily be replaced with working ones?

Last thing. I saw mention somewhere in another thread that the emitter has to be removed to remove the blade? I dont really understand this, so if someone could help me out I'd appreciate it.

Looking back at the pictures again, in most it seems Orange, but in a couple it looks much more Red. I was attracted to it because of the Orange..... so which is it? lol

I believe the extra inch comes at the bottom of the hilt by the pommel.

No, all of the exterior flourishes are just that, fluff. The accents do not light up.

Yes. the blade screws are placed in the "underlay" part of the emitter. The emitter consists of 3 parts: the plate, underlay, and shroud. It is also worth noting that there are 3 blade screws that must be tightened flush with the outer diameter of the underlay, so that the shroud can properly fit. Because of this, I highly recommend staying away from Heavy Grade blades. They are thicker and less compliant when tightening the screws.

The red anodize is more red. The lighting in the website makes it look more orange. I recommend doing a search of the forum for Crimson hilts: Menace, Mantis, or Reaper. Home photos seem to show the truer color.

Even if you go back one page and look at my pics of my Menace SE beside my Dark Menace - the Dark Menace has Emerald and you can see the added length compared to the silver Menace. With Emerald it brings the Menace, length wise, in line with other US. Without it's prob the shortest premium hilt they make.

Oh wow... thanks to googles help I found plenty, and man does it look different! very red indeed! glad I found this out, as I LOVE the color it appears on the site here, but the reality is far from the oranger color it seems!

Yeah, the length difference is all in the portion that the switch sits in.

And, yeah, the body of the "short" Menace is probably the shortest complete premium saber tube, the one I've got here with the Scorpion pommel neck and Flamberge blade holder is about equally between the Initiate V2 and V4 in length, with sound and QDs.  I could just use the Flamberge blade holder and bring it's size down to actually being shorter than a V2 Initiate, but then there's only about an inch of blade in the blade socket.

Believe it or not, I have plans to pick up one more.  I should have ordered my first one with the recharge port and Emerald, but didn't know what style of port the Menaces came with at that point.  Now, I want to be able to charge both ends of the staff at once, so the non-charge port hilt will go on to other things, with an emitter change, when I can spring for another Emerald DM.

Ok, so I just got my 2nd Menace CE in yesterday and coupled it to my first, and slapped a pair of 32s in. OMG perfect staff. My visual estimate puts it at about 74-76" total length, which is just a little longer than me. And it's sooooo pretty. ;D
