Title: Saber Choreography: Performances
Post by: Darth Cephalus on May 14, 2015, 11:55:40 PM
A thread for staged combat performances. Your own or those you find. Please note that if you are solo, you should be posting in the spin demos or in the saber combat. If you are dueling, you should be also be posting over in saber combat. This thread is for videos of staged combat routines with or without costumes, effects, force powers, etc. and comments or questions relative to those videos. That said, let the epic battle commence! I will start it off with a video from the folks over at Saberproject.

This one is called The Intern Awakens.

Here is the first known Jedi Demo in the Philippines by the Saber Suicide Squad live performance at New Worlds: Episode III - The 3rd Philippine Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention, Glorietta Activity Center, Ayala Center, Makati, Philippines; May 2005.

Some of their members are now part of the Pinoy501st and the Philippine Lightsaber Guild.

A bunch of clips from our coreographed routines set to some music and followed by some bloopers. Wasn't sure where something like this belonged, but guessed this was as good as anywhere. :o

I saw a lot of these videos when you posted them originally. Still good in remix form. I still particularly like the exotic weapons pieces. I imagine dual versus staff is a bit tough to pull off without it looking clunky.

My first attempt  at lightsaber choreography. Definitely won't be my last though.  This placed 10th in the Lightsaber Choreography Competition 2015.  I can't wait until next year.

Not choreography....really. It's a drill we use to teach people many things, the overall goal being the ability to Freeform/defend yourself. Thought I'd share it here since this is where I hang out the most.

Hey Ryan.  Sweet !  Especially with your dancing partner... the youngish fellow wearing the dark baggy shorts that was your 2nd and last sparring partner.  Could watch a whole lot more.  8)

point and thanks for the share  :)

Think this will fit here... I just recently discovered that there's a choreography competition. Check it out on facebook https://www.facebook.com/lighsaberchoreographycompetition/?hc_ref=NEWSFEED

They have links to clips from the competition on their page.

Ok. So we did this in a little under 30 minutes and nothing was planned out. For future projects that do not fall under my " Rough Draft " playlist we will have a better camera, editing, sound, etc. I do this all from an iPad Air 2 with iMovie. Which is terrible....i need a computer. I know some fellow instructors that work as Stuntmen on the side that have already given me some huge pointers on camera angles and selling the shots. We are planning on trying to enter the LCC 2017 competition with 4 or 5 entries. Afterwards, we will put all the 3 minute clips together to make a small " Fan Film " if you will. Anyway, enough Jibba Jabba. Hope you enjoy. We will get better over time.

My Peers/students named me Darth Soresu...wasnt my choice but it fits with my " current " fighting style. As we progress i plan on going back to the saberstaff.

And yes...that is a custom StarLord helmet. Hard to see in but i will make it work. Our " Dark Siders " will be identified by masks and such so they can still use their favorite color lightsaber.

Me and my friend did this a year ago... It's not really with Lightsabers, but i like it as a good first try. The choreography is a bit short, and the slow motion may be excessive, but, well... Here you go. Note: 13 year olds with foam swords can be cringey. You have been warned.

HitFilm for color enhancement is all we used recently. Down the road we are going to use HitFilm in conjunction with Final Cut Pro. HitFilm has everything though. Fx, enhancements, composite shot editing, masking. Man the tutorials are crazy

Really cool videos out there, thanks for sharing.

Well, this looks like the best thread for posting this... so here it goes - not so long ago my colleague and I have recorded our performance for the last year's Lightsaber Choreography Competition. For me personally, it was the first attempt at this kind of staged action so I will be more than happy to have feedback from you and receive your comments on its overall quality (or lack of it:). We are planning to expand on this so every tips and advice on what should be improved will be very valuable for us and much appreciated. Thanks!

Videos from my recent Saber Guild Revan submission (anything with a mask or helmet you need to submit a "movement" video to prove you can safely perform choreography in costume). It's with the same person I usually practice "Anikoo" with. Sadly she did not know the choreography I'd originally wanted to do (Luke/Vader Episode VI translates beautifully to Jarr Kai) so we did shorter and simpler choreography that still shows enough for the purpose.
