Title: Scroll Work
Post by: tuckerfilms on January 12, 2011, 05:02:51 PM
My first saber, an Aeon, is on its way as I write this. I’m very excited.

To make it more my own and give it a unique look, I was planning on doing some scroll work on the hilt. I was thinking maybe some Celtic designs or the like. I haven’t thought it out completely yet. Has anyone else ever done this or this kind of work?

I have never really done any metal work, scrolling or engraving.  I have a Dremel tool but don’t know if this would be a good tool to use or not. What are the best tools to use for a good clean look? And where on the hilt would be the best locations for this (obviously not the grip or I may tear up my hands.) Any help would be great. Thanks!

Your dremel tool will work fine for scrolling

Great suggestion. (The Force is strong with this one.)  ;)

Now I'm thinking about getting my little tag line there on a saber...

Ooh, now I'm intrigued.

I had previously used a waterslide decal, but that in itself isn't really engraving, please post your results with the dremel! :D

My saber hasn’t arrived yet, so this gives me (more) time to solidify the character that the design will represent. You can be sure I’ll put some pics up when it’s done.    8)

Do a search for this guy: Eastern57 ...on FX Sabers forums or YouTube. He's got some good stuff.

That is a fantastic suggestion. I do not mean this in a patronizing way at all, I just want to suggest that if/when you use your Dremel to engrave that you make sure that it's strapped down or secured (like in a vice) when you work on it. So it doesn't move while you work on it. :)

Good intentions, good advice, and a general concern for others should never be taken as patronizing.  Thanks for the reminder. I was just wondering if I had a vice in the garage clutter somewhere.
