Title: Ultrasabers colors as seen in person
Post by: Master Nero Attoru on October 06, 2011, 02:45:38 PM
Hey guys, props to imperialknight23 for giving me this idea - he made a thread asking what Guardian Blue looked like in person, and it got me thinking.  We all post reviews and rave about our favorite colors, but pictures and all don't really give a good idea of the actual color (as you all have noticed).

I wanted to start a thread where people could discuss and give examples (pictures of color swatches or whatever) of what these colors actually look like in person.  That way, people won't be surprised or disappointed when they receive their saber and it wasn't what they expected.

Here are the colors we're talking about:

Blazing Red
Consular Green
Guardian Blue
Adegan Silver
Fire Orange
Sunriders Destiny
Arctic Blue
Violet Amethyst
Pyrestone
Sentinel Yellow
Dark Violet
Bane's Heart

Anyone with a good description of any of these colors feel free to comment - like I said there are comments all around the forum but I wanted to make a sort of definitive guide of the real life colors.  I personally feel that the regular Ultrasabers colors are pretty well represented by the picture on the main US page, but the "secret colors" are harder to describe.  Let's get this thread rolling!

I am very happy to see this thread.  Please everyone remember that our opinions on a color are just that, opinions.  If someone disagrees, don't take it personally.  For example:

I have seen and use every US color regularly available (working on the secret colors) and in my humble opinion Arctic Blue is the brightest (produces the most light).  Guardian blue to me seem like a very deep darker blue and less like a more cannon color, which is cool to me cause I LOVE BLUE.

Pictures and video don't do these blades and LEDs justice.  We don't have the technology yet to ACCURATELY capture colors this bright and intense on home media yet.  DOESN'T STOP US FROM TRYING THOUGH!

I think I found a pretty decent representation of some of the colors. Here are pics that I think are close to what each color looks like to me.

Consular Green

I thought of it while drinking some Fire Orange Powerade as I was reading this topic.

They must be ultra edge bottles, the colors look kinda pastel to me :D     And I don't want to know what you are using for Sentinel Yellow ;D

Those are shockingly good representations!  I feel like Guardian Blue is a hair darker than that, but the rest are pretty spot on - especially the Fire Orange and Blazing Red.

My Arsenal -
Blazing Red - Dark Initiate V2, PVC Omen, MLS unit
Guardian Blue - Phantasm V2 Staff (2 Aeons V2)
Consular Green - Dark Initiate V2
"Dark" Violet Amethyst - Liberator
Fire Orange - Fully loaded Dark Shock - On its way.

Blazing Red - a nice "evil" "Sith" red.

Consular Green -looks awesome in pictures, but I find it lacking in person.

Guardian Blue
- very bright, very blue, very awesome.

Adegan Silver - Don't own one.  Don't plan to own one.

Fire Orange - On it's way!

Sunriders Destiny - I really like this color, but I have too many "light side" colors so I passed on my latest order.

Arctic Blue - I already have a blue; but considering what everyone has said about it, I'll get one eventually, or atleast an MLS unit.

Violet Amethyst - Don't own it.

Pyrestone- I was torn between going with this or going with FO; the only reason I did go with FO is that I wanted some difference between my BR and FO and not a really close color that looked a touch off.

Sentinel Yellow - Don't own one, although the color is kinda growing on me.

Dark Violet - Found this to be the most disappointing color, it's bright, but just...not the kind of purple I was looking to get, it looks EPIC on camera though.

Bane's Heart
- I can make this color by adding a red filter to my Liberator in Dark VA, I like it better than the standard dark VA because it looks more vibrant.

The blazing red in my opinion, is EXACTLY the same color shown on the US page. I was disappointed when I received my blazing red raven because I thought that the color would be a more "Red" color as opposed to (this is just my opinion) an orangish red . But then, after looking on the the US page, I noticed that the color of my blade was EXACTLY the same color as shown. (You would think that I would have paid more attention to the color I was ordering. I was looking at the videos of the US blazing red color and referring to them as opposed to what was on the site. VIDEOS SHOW A DIFFERENT COLOR THAN THE ACTUAL COLOR IN PERSON! Remember that when ordering).

Now that I have realized that, I'm not disappointed in the color of my blade. I VERY happy with it :)

The red poweraid is a good representation of the actual color, but it is a little bit darker than the actual color, and a little more red. If you throw a wee bit of orange (I mean just a hair) in there, and lighten the color up, you have a great representation of the actual color. But I still HIGHLY recommend that you go to the US site and look at the description of the color of the blade. It is 100% correct (in my opinion).

P.S. I think it would be a good idea to post what kind of blade you have, because the blade can effect the color. I have a standard mid grade blade. Research told me that the UE blades would lighten the color up on a blazing red, giving a pinkish look to it (except when in the dark). So I went with the standard mid grade blade, which research told me it would stay true to the actual LED color. I eventually want to get an UE blade for nighttime dueling.

DJ's posts just made me thirsty.  Dammit....

Feels good to get props though.  I think though that future posts should clarify on certain colors such as RGB LEDs like VA, SRD and AB, and any other specialty color, what the color looks like when FRESH batteries are put it, and what type.  I can speak from experience that my SRD comes close to arctic blue when i put in fresh Eneloops, then about after 30 mins of cumulative use, it becomes that seafoam green people talk about, then when close to death, it becomes a transparent Consular green.  so that would be an important factor.

Side Note:  I realize there is another plus side to these bigger hilts, that have the option of Li-Ion.  When i got my prophecy all i could get was standard setup for my SRD.  Thinking about my next purchase of an SI with Dark VA in it, i would go with Li-Ion (but no sound) to have it maintain that color.  I would say that if people go with a RGB LED type color, and want that exact look, Li-Ions are the way to go, if it's available for the hilt.

All right guys lets keep this thread to its original purpose.  I wanted to help new buyers decide based on REAL examples, so thanks to DirtyJersey and Yega for explaining in detail.  Imperial Knight had a good point about the SRD changing color too, but I was hoping people would post some pics of real life colors that accurately depict what the saber color looks like.

Let's keep this on track.

guardian blue?  thats how i percieve it.  and the glow too.

also people may ask what colors may look like in person in ultraedge blades.  that factors in too in some people's assessment of color.

I'm VERY Interested in this thread, because I only own one saber (Blazing Red), and I'm looking at potential colors for my next.
Now, I noticed that BR's "True Red" isn't the same red as that powerade picture. It's not even that deep and vivid. Instead it's a combination of bright light red and dark orange. Sort of Red, but not at the same time. I think a "Sith Red" with a deeper hue would look truly awesome, but for now all we have is Blazing.

Does anyone have a saber in "Bane's Heart" VA? I'd really like to get a staff in VA and was considering Dark Violet but after reading some of the descriptions I'm not sure. Perhaps comparing the Dark Violet and Bane's Heart could help me make a better decision before ordering.

Anyone have these tow colors so I can compare them?

please try to stay on track in this thread.  i know i'm notorious for goin off topic, but this is Nero's thread, and let's try and make it constructive.  please post only if you have some pics to add of an image that comes close to an ultrasaber color.

@dave dark violet is more of an indigo. while banes heart is more magenta.  i'll do some findings tomorrow, i'll try to make it a mission.  actually i cant.....since i dont own those colors, i cant compare it to something.

Thanks Knight, I appreciate the help :)

I just wanted this thread so that people could really express the TRUE color of their sabers, so newbies have an idea.  We all know cameras warp saber colors terribly!  I'll try to find some swatches that express the colors I have seen in person...

Nero isn't looking for himself.  He's trying to create a thread where people can look and read current owners opinions of colors.  Between Nero and I we have one or two sabers in every color.  Just looking to provide more information to the crowd of possible buyers.

hi i was the first to order the bane's heart color. and yes, it is quite magenta, but in all honesty and not lying to myself to hype up the color: i must admit to all the nonsaber community people who have seen my saber refer to it is hot pink, or neon pink.

and yes i can see where they are coming from, but it is still a very awesome and vibrant color and i will always encourage anyone interested in the color to get it! it is really awesome and unique and fits into much of the expanded universe lore. don't let the haters bring you down, it is bane's heart! not neon pink! haha but i am not fretting, most of my friends just like to give me a hard time.

It's is Pink, Magenta, w/e you want to call it. It's pink.
This is with a normal Mid grade.

I think Consular Green is a good color. In person to me it kind of has an emerald hint to it and my Blazing Red saber has the old Vader ESB saber red hint to it which I like. I don't have an Ultra Sabers blue yet so I couldn't tell you about that color. My next order will be in Arctic Blue though so I will tell you how that color is.

Let me preface this by saying I only own an RGB model with Ultraedge so my results might be a bit different:

Most people seemed disappointed with the red but to me it looks the closest to the movies and was the one that impressed me the most.
blue is bright towards the emitter and a little lighter overall than I expected
green is a bright green, almost neon green color, again a lot lighter than I expected.
purple was the most disappointing for me, it is basically a bright pink and not very purple-ish more magenta color than anything else
the "white" color was actually a very light pastel pink color as well.  Right by the hilt it is actually white but towards the end of the blade it is a distinct light pink especially if held at a slight angle
the light blue is very nice cyan color and fairly impressive.  Of all the "mixed" colors the most impressive
the yellow is more of a gold and somewhat dull look, second best mixed color by far.

Again, I was pleasantly surprised with the red, it was the most accurate color to the movies and was fairly disappointed with the RGB purple.  I probably won't ever be using my saber with the white or purple settings.

Ah, saw these in your thread, thanks very much Malek/Katarn!  This is a fantastic representation... in fact I think it's the most accurate picture of an Ultrasaber lit up that I've ever seen!  If anyone is considering Arctic Blue, that's what it looks like IRL.

Good post, point for you.

UE Heavies are the thickest and (not to bash UE, because they're awesome in their own right.) most dimming of the blades.

AND the US saber is way brighter than the MR.

Why is that?

If the MR has lights throughout.

Title: Re: Ultrasabers colors as seen in person
Post by: ed_ification on December 12, 2011, 06:07:59 PM
Well, the MR Vader was bought on eBay - it may well be that some of the LEDs in it are damaged/old.  But the batteries in it were new, and the brightness on the MR ESB saber is comparable to the brightness of my wife's MR ANH Vader saber (though that too was from eBay).

But if I had to guess, it's the fact that the LED in the Ultrasaber is SO much brighter to begin with.  I mean, I should think that, much like Ultra does with regards to the warnings about looking at the naked LEDs, Master Replicas/Hasbro would have to do the same, just in case something was to happen.  I couldn't tell you the exact type of LEDs used in the MR series, nor how bright they are on an individual basis in comparison to the LEDs used by Ultrasabers.  That's a question for the sabersmiths.

But when I did my review of the DWG  - I took that pic for comparison, since the FX sabers are likely what a lot of folks getting into sabers are going to be familiar with.

This is correct.  People don't always realize it, but most of the decent single LED sabers you'll find are MUCH brighter than their Force FX counterparts.  The LEDs used in Force FX blades are not the same kind used in a single LED setup - they're much cheaper and dimmer, resulting in a more even but dimmer blade.  Just one more reason to go with an Ultrasaber ;)

Not to mention that US blades can actually be swung without a lot of fear of damage to the saber.  I mean, I can remember how hard I used to swing my little plastic saber back when I was a kid - if I had a kid now swinging the FX blades, I'd go through the roof, I imagine...

What is the consensus on using mid grade against heavy grade?

I know I wont hurt the Heavy but is there a chance that I could hurt the Mid grade?

I generally avoid mixing different grades, but that's just me being protective of my beloved US blades.  The midgrades are plenty durable, but those heavy grades have a lot of power behind them and they're very rigid.  You're putting a pretty hefty amount of force into one spot on the blade.

Basically you can do it, but for durability's sake I wouldn't recommend doing it all the time.

Pyrestone (at least in my experience) is not that red... its one of those colors that the camera does funny things with. My Phantom staff has it, and I have I've seen my friend's Blazing Red often enough to believe there is a difference between the two. Think of Pyrestone as a dark orange (at least, with mid-grade blades).

Unfortunately, none of my current pics reflect it well either, or I'd post one here.

Tis true.

The colors are too close to each-other to really pick up the subtleties. Like Sentinel Yellow and Fire Orange.

That's why I threw the pictures together. Because it's hard to see any difference in the pictures.

In person the subtleties of the Pyrestone are not that subtle.

Agreed, that was awesome Kham, thanks a lot.  Those are actually very accurate representations guys, at least from what I can tell of the colors I own.  Is Pyrestone really that red looking?

Wow Kham thanks for the pics! I'm going have to ask this along with Nero, Is preystone really that red???

It is way more red than FO, but when put next to the BR, it looks much more orange. It sits smack dab in between FO and BR.

In terms of Pigment, or Color. (I have to specify because I know we are talking about a giant glowstick.)

It is closest to No. 4  in the "More or Less Orange Red" category on the YOUR right.

ANd you are very Welcome for tthe pictures. It's always a pleasure to help.

Within a week I should have several more sabers.  I purchased a really nice camera recently and will send some pics of the various colors and blades.  Unfortunately I didn't order any medium grade blades. . .
Amen

Here, is DVA, it's on my Aeon LE V3 I recently received and might I say, it is a magnificent color. This is in a normal midgrade blade.

I hope this helps!!

Does anyone have a Dark Standard Issue V3 with a Guardian Blue blade? I already have one with a Blazing Red blade and I am considering buying a staff with Blazing Red and Guardian Blue blades (I would pair the two Blazing Reds and weild the Guardian Blue seprately).

Much was written about the colors themselfs here but only one person talked about the brightness of these things and only mentioned Arctic blue.

I would love to see a complete list since I'm currently pointing towards CG myself and don't really know if it would appear to be brighter than GB or even AB.

Every single color, is bright; if stared into the LED could damage your eyes.

Both GB and AB are going to appear brighter than CG  because the wavelength of the light is oscillating faster than CG. (Red has the longest wavelength which gives the light a much more subdued look.)

Violet
Indigo
Blue
Green
Yellow
Orange
Red

There are seven colors to light and then variations on those colors; I.E. Sunrider's or AB.

Notice that Green is right next to Blue in the spectrum of light, I'd say that CG is very close too GB.

If you don't believe me ask Master Nero, he knows everything about CG.

I know I am late to the party, but I really enjoyed this thread.

How about Otter Pops/freeze pops?

Or Jolly Ranchers? The green one looks a lot like my Consular Green.

Maybe the blue one here looks close to Arctic Blue?

What do you guys think who own the colors beaidea Consular Green?

I waited a long time to get my Graflex CE in Arctic Blue... then when I finally got it I was a bit disappointed in the color.  Kind of a dullish light blue with a hint of green, didn't seem very "Arctic".  The Arctic Blue I edited onto my Diamond Manticore was way more crisp and bright, the color I expected on my Graflex.
Ordering a second Graflex with Diamond Controller just to get the bright blue I want on my favorite saber.

US has some great colors, I have to admit.  I'm excited to see the new Blue Violet Amethyst in person.

Thought this was funny. This could be something close to Sunrider's Destiny or Emerald Green, maybe?  ;D
