Title: New Saber: Electrum Wind
Post by: Deep on September 14, 2016, 08:10:24 PM
The new Electrum Wind brings another iconic and loved saber designs to the Ultrasabers lineup. The Electrum Wind is of course fully made of T6 Aircraft Aluminum and combat ready. This hilt design has been sought after by saber enthusiasts and we are happy to add this one to our line up. The emitter is removable and Gold Anodized and features windows to show light when the blade is illuminated. Additionally, several other pieces of the Electrum Wind are gold anodized to accent the black grips and black textured pieces on the rear of the hilt and near the pommel. The grips come in two different version: Round and Chamfered. The pommel is removable and comes in two different versions: Gold Finish and Black Finish. The Electrum Wind is able to accommodate sound installs, Emerald LED driver installs, and has a MHS compatible emitter & pommel as well.

The Electrum Wind comes standard with a non-illuminated AV switch, is 1.6" wide, and 12.25" long from the top of the emitter to the bottom of the pommel. The saber comes completely assembled and ready to go. The pommel and emitter are removable and compatible with TCSS MHS parts. Sound and the Emerald LED driver are also available options. Both Standard Setup and Li-Ion Setup work perfectly for an Electrum Wind with No Sound. However, Li-Ion Setup is mandatory in order to add sound or the Emerald driver to the Electrum Wind.

First impressions ? . . . . really liking the silver / gold / black features . . . a VERY impressive hilt indeed  8)

A couple of questions tho ?

1.6" wide . . . is that the outer diameter of the grip section ? and
are the textured section & grips, rubber or plastic, or anodised aluminium ?

Definitely going to be my next saber =] Non lit av switch, canon purple blade, round grips for me

A few notes- the cut out around the switch section looks nice esp. in the video, that is one serious socket retention screw(I like that style), gold anodizing should be bullet proof, MHS emitter(had guessed it was going to be fixed :)), and the new textured sections, good stuff.

1.6" wide seems a bit large to me, so the smaller round vertical grips would be a better fit IMO and I like that style more.  This pommel should be well sought after to diversify the other LE gold accented hilts out there . . . a welcome addition.

Edit:  Thinking about it the Electrum Wind activation box would make a very nice detail on a few other hilt designs as well.

Now to wait and see who decides to order it and give it a full review.

It seems this hilt can be optioned with an illuminated LATCHING av switch for a stunt saber . . . cool

Also, did anyone else notice the retention screws on the back of the grip section (about 50 seconds into the video) . . . I'm thinking this hilt will be put together in a very creative way to achieve the 3 hilt colours (silver / gold / black)

EDIT :

And . . . Emory does say "The Electrum Wind is of course fully made of T6 Aircraft Aluminum" . . . so i guess that answers that question, lol . . .

It's the compromise between accommodating the guts and maintaining the proportions, I guess. The Menace is the best for keeping everything in line size-wise, but the canon hilts were always designed with looks in mind; They didn't have to accommodate anything inside, after all!

I'm impressed with the EW any way. It looks slimmer than I'd expected, based on the con photos. It's not high on my list (not with the Tano hilt coming soon!) so I'm not ordering it straight away... but I'm looking forward to the reviews, and may well end up picking this up in the not too distant future.

Also, did anyone else notice the retention screws on the back of the grip section (about 50 seconds into the video) . . . I'm thinking this hilt will be put together in a very creative way to achieve the 3 hilt colours (silver / gold / black)

Good catch. I'd guess that section would be a shroud like on the Consular/Mantis etc?

Damn you US! Why do you have to wave a pretty lightsaber in my face and threaten my savings balance?!

Actually, I've been waiting for a while for a detailed and pretty lightsaber to come out so I could get myself a new one. I'm not a fan of crossguard hilts, though I was lucky enough to see and hold a renegade recently (ultrasabers are very popular locally) and it was far better than I thought it would be. And while the V4s are nice they aren't what I've been after. Detail, tri colour (I've been liking the idea of a hilt with gold), a design I like.... It's ticking all the boxes. This might find itself in my collection very soon! I haven't made a new hilt purchase in nearly two years after all! *sads*

The size is the only downer for me, I have small hands after all, but I shall have to seriously think on this one!

Love the intricate design! They really tried to capture the details of the canon saber from top to bottom.

It looks pretty thick, but the thickest points seem to be the top of the switch section and the grip section, so it may feel sleeker in hand.

I'm liking the new quick release coupler too, and actually think the male side of it could work as a slim pommel for this saber that looks more similar to the canon design.

It seems this hilt can be optioned with an illuminated LATCHING av switch for a stunt saber . . . cool

I was wondering about these screws as well...maybe that section is a shroud of some sort? The grips are definitely aluminum and part of the body. You can see them better when selecting the grip option on the saber's purchasing page.

EDIT: I'm also curious what material/effect is used for the textured black sections on the saber

Stupid question: For the blade set screw, why is it a $10 upcharge to get a button screw instead of a socket screw?  Is that a coding mistake or is there a nuance I am missing?

I remarked that as well.  Seems a bit steep for a button head screw.  Perhaps it's a different diameter?

Yea, I noticed that also . . . perhaps the button screw is actually made of electrum ?  ;)

I can't help but dream up how I'd option one . . . so far I'm thinking . . . Tri-AB ; white illuminated / black av switch ; rounded grip section ; black finish pommel . . . and you know . . . I just had to add it to my cart, check 10% off and shipping cost Oz at the moment . . . oh, and added a quick release coupler . . . just for fun  ::)

EDIT : but I have NOT pressed go . . . . yet  ;)

Oh . . . another thing . . . considering the hilt thickness . . . I thought I'd check a couple of my other hilts

Consular outer shroud 40.25mm (1.58")
My Renegade custom at the widest point of the grenade grip section 40.65mm (1.60")
Archon v2.1 lower section 39.20mm (1.54")

Depending on where the 1.60" width of this is, it might not be as bad or beefy as many of us first thought . . . . I've been using my Renegade (RenExar) a lot and the thickness is not that much of an issue for me . . .  :)

I would actually boldly suggest the US design of the Electrum Wind is a significant improvement over the prop that provided the general inspiration.

To me - anyway.  ;)

I always thought the sizing / proportions of the pommel to the grip to the emitter were . . . bizarre looking.

It always seemed unbalanced & awkward to me.

But that could just be me.  :)

Some people in this world like Vanilla ice cream, others prefer Chocolate ice cream. Why? Nobody knows - they just do.  (Don't get me started on people that like Mint ice cream. It's like trying to eat frozen cream whipped with mouthwash. Yuck.)

I would like to second Lord C's applause GIFs, as a general acknowledgement of the beauty and craftsmanship (not to mention anodizing creativity) on display here!!!

Can we get "BAMF" engraved for a small surcharge?  Drahcir, what do you think? LOL

For me the activation switch area is the standout feature.  This does not look like a sink pipe with a glow stick (ok, for the record, no US saber does), it looks like something Boeing or Lockheed made in a skunk lab and doesn't want you to know about.   ;D

Kudos, Emory & Co. - this is a real work of art!

Title: Re: New Saber: Electrum Wind
Post by: StarWarsForce on September 15, 2016, 10:31:13 PM
VERY COOL. It's probably not likely I'll pick one up, but still....that's a good looking saber. I think I'd prefer yellower gold accents and a smaller size for the saber; however, I'm loving the fact that the non-illuminated switch is standard (I think black would look FANTASTIC), the emitter has Liberator-like windows, and that the emitter and pommel are MHS compatible. The pommel might look REALLY good on my Initiate LE V4.

I'm curious as to what that textured section is made of, and why the covertec wheel has to be a bit different than the other covertec wheels US offers.

But even if I don't get this saber, I am TOTALLY getting the new coupler--that's just plain sexy.

Awesome job, Ultrasabers--NO ONE has a saber or coupler like this on the market.

So I've been staring at this bad boy and the more I look at it - I think it's a very clever re-engineering of the Scorpion in terms of the hilt mechanics!

And I know a thing or two about that one.  ;)

Check it out!

Look at the area all around the switch; it looks like that switch is mounted to an inner-sleeve that houses the electronics - just like the Scorpion.

So they probably install the electronics in the inner sleeve . . . slide it in the shroud . . . wire the AV Switch & mount the Gold thingamadoodles once inside the Shroud . . . put in the retention screws in the Grip area to hold the inner sleeve so it doesn't rotate & break the Gold pieces or the switch . . . and the Emitter screws into the inner sleeve on top . . . and BAMF! . . . Electrum Wind!  :)

As far as size goes, width in specific: the Graflex is one of our best selling sabers and customers love it all around for both display and use.  I've never heard a single opinion voiced over it's width.  And the grips on the Graflex are slightly wider than the grips on the Electrum Wind.

I really like this.  Th Mace Windu hilt is a fantastic design and the UltraSabers version does it justice without being an exact duplicate.  Since I have long hands, I don't see the 1.6 inch grip section being an issue for me.  In fact, I may find it quite comfortable.

Seeing this and the Fall sale males me glad I skipped the last sale.  Not only do I have more money right now than if I'd ordered, but I can get one if these with Lite sound and save more than I would have with free shipping.  So, I'm probably going to order one after I get paid next week.

I haven't handled a Flex, but I do own a CO. I have pretty big hands which make the linear grips easier to grasp. But seeing as how they create points similar to a hexagonal profile, they aren't the most comfortable to duel with, but they're not "OMG my hand is killing me" uncomfortable.

I would say that considering that the EW has more grips, putting less space between them that it would be more comfortable than the Flex.

(But still......who doesn't want a Graflex?)

Yuck.)

My thoughts exactly. I've never been a fan of the canon design, but the Electrum Wind looks absolutely gorgeous! If I had the money to spare, I'd buy it today...

I have been debating on what saber I wanted to get as my first for a while, and then I saw this on facebook a day or two ago, and I knew I just had to have it.
Earlier today I ordered the Stunt version in blue, mostly because I can't manage the full price of the fancier models. But I'm still happy either way. I can't wait for it to get in.
Also, first post. Hi guys.

Right on scifidude79!

Hope they're still in stock for you. :P

If not, I'll get in line for one.  ;)  A saber this beautiful is worth the wait, I think.

@Ranger, nice. What external options did you go for, somewhat canon or your own like the black pommel and stuff? I have to go canon for mine though :P

I went with the gold pommel, though I might get the black one just to swap out at some point.

I get what you mean. I understand completely why someone would want it.... It just doesn't appeal to me.

Thankfully I do just have enough money to afford the electrum wind with emerald driver, but since I have no experience with the emerald driver and it will be my first I need to do some research first... And I'm far too tired right now to do that after a full day out. Hopefully tomorrow night I might be able to put in my order :D

First impression - that's a good looking hilt.
Now to wait and see who decides to order it and give it a full review.

As soon as I hear back from Ultra Sabers I'm gonna order mine. :) This is one badass hilt. 8)

What's holding you back?

He's probably a review shopper.  He likes seeing what consumers think of a product before buying it.  I'm the same way with a lot of things.  (especially video games)  I researched the heck out of UltraSabers before buying my first one.  I watched review videos on most of the hilts and read reviews posted on the site as well.  The only reason I'm even planning on buying the Electrum Wind before reviews are up is because it's an UltraSaber.  My experience with this company and its product so far has been 100% satisfaction.  Plus, it doesn't have any features that give me pause, like the thin neck on the Archon V3.1.  It looks like a solid hilt.  (besides, it's probably going to be a display piece for me anyway)

Yes, I watched hundreds of reviews before getting my first, and I'm still doing so before I get my second in March, but as you say the Electrum Wind does look like a solid saber with no drawbacks...and as Deep sayed, the grips are thinner than the Graflex's, and they look more comfortable too...

I tend to just dive in. The only things I read reviews about are laptops and cars... and even then, with the cars I tend to just go for what feels good on the test drive.

But then, I hate making video reviews, so that may colour my opinion of watching them. I tend to enjoy them when I do, other than feeling jealous about whatever hilt they have that I don't, of course!

I still watch the vids too.  They're a great place to get impressions on any hilt.  I think the Electrum wind has no drawbacks as well, but I still await video reviews.  However, I still plan to buy one.  Right now, I could afford a stunt, but I want to swing for sound on this one, so I'm (im)patiently awaiting payday.  I'm still torn between the V4 and LITE sound.  I think the V4 may just be worth the price upgrade to get six sound fonts and a mute.  Besides, I can't afford a whole arsenal of sound sabers, so I may as well splurge on this one.  I can afford it right now. (you get the feeling my mind is sort of made up? ;))

Yes, its normal, but the v4 is perfect, I wish I would've got it for my wife, because she could use the saber mute at night after putting the kids to sleep,( oh, and there are 7 sound fonts and the mute)...just only for that, its worth it, you have a stunt and a premium sound saber in one. Plus you can change the font if you get bored. After you order you will feel like it was a mistake, but as soon as it ships you will be excited...lol...

My concern would be that blues and greens in particular may clash with the gold. Red, too, although not so much.

And sadly quick disconnects aren't an option on this hilt.

Six fonts, seven fonts, whatever. (still, have a point for that correction) Either way, it's worth the $10 markup from the V3, especially since I don't have a Windows computer or a Mac to switch the fonts, so I need as many loaded on it as I can get.  ;)  I don't think there's a way to order one of these and feel like it's a mistake.  I was just numbers crunching and the V4 Electrum Wind in Violet Amethyst (wasn't going to go there, but a lot of people aren't, so I will) is under $280 with the 10% discount during the sale.  That's an unbeatable price, plus all premium sabers right now are getting the better charger for free.  With FedEx ground shipping, the whole order will be under $300.  I don't see how I can pass on that deal.  I just need to wait for Thursday......

You have to TRY the TRI...it does make a difference, in my opinion FoC doesn't look too spectacular as it does on vνdeo(nor the blades do, obviously). Now I've got to see the FoC, from now on I will always go with a TRI, except for the colors that don't give you the option.

Indigo or a blueish purple is one of my favourite colors, so it does have more probabilities than the regular VA...any way both of them are colors that I haven't seen in person yet...congrats for the order. Mine will have to wait a few years, or who knows, might win it in a raffle...lol...

*cringes at the USD to AUD exchange rate* a USD$520 order with a few other bits and freight, became AUD$713. I miss the days when I could order a saber and pay less than the USD cost :'(

Eesh, and I though US/UK was bad. At least we're still the right side of the 1:1 exchange rate.

Canada has pretty bad too, but Aus wins.

I really rather we didn't win lol :P main reason I've been putting off buying sabers and indeed anything from the USA. At the moment at least the AUD to CAD is 1:1, but at the start of the year it wasn't so friendly either when I purchased from there.

Psshh. Duh. I would estimate that at least 50% of all EWs will leave the shop in either of those 2 colors.

Although, I'm leaning more toward Emerald, cuz....ya know. And it will leave the shop set to VA. :P

I've ordered mine in VA. Clearly you should go for Dark Violet so we can compare :D

I just may get my Electrum wind in DVA me and you can compare the colors

And this is why I love US. Saber already shipped :D *bounces around excitedly* now to see which route it takes to get here- I find it mightily amusing that usually it goes up North then West around the Pacific rim and back down :P most of my sabers are well travelled lol.

A couple of mine have, but the rest travel around the pacific rim lol. It's rude of our lightsabers that they get a holiday in Hawaii but we don't isn't it? :P ;)

Just got my electrum wind. I must say that it is a beautiful saber. The weight is nice and the look is awesome. The tri colored hilt is amazing and really pops in light. There is rubber on back side of hilt which is nice. I got the chamfered grips which gives the feel of the graflex. Of course had to get the tri colored amythest to keep it proper. This saber is beautiful. Great job as always from the Ultrasabers team!!!!!! This will be the 2nd centerpiece of my collection to go along with my other 9 sabers. Great job guys!!!!!

Having a present arrive when you are stuck sick in bed is nice :P

Squee, obsidian v4 is so cool! *happily plays with the preloaded soundfonts*

And for those who were worried about size- this saber is by far a lot wider than my other saber hilts and heavier. BUT- I can hold single handed and my thumb and fingers do touch wrapped around it, and I have fairly small hands, I take either small or extra small gloves usually.

(http://i411.photobucket.com/albums/pp195/b1ondeange1/Lightsabers/temporary_zpsdjmwl6dc.jpg) (http://s411.photobucket.com/user/b1ondeange1/media/Lightsabers/temporary_zpsdjmwl6dc.jpg.html)

ALSO AS A NOTE REGARDING THE VTAR VC2 CHARGER FOR NON AMERICANS: seriously spend the extra and get this over the standard trustfire if getting the lithium ion battery set up. If for no other reason (theres plenty) because it charges via the USB adapter cord they give you, you don't have to worry about needing to find an adapter plug from the US plug to your country's or finding a figure eight cable to fit. Since so many devices these days charge via USB and have a USB wall plug (dunno about the rest of you but I have at least 15 roaming around the house plus a multi USB charger port) it's going to be far easier, unless you are like me and have been saving every figure eight cable you can find off older dead electronics :P

Excellent B1ondeange1!

That had to make you feel slightly better. :)

Thanks for the explanation of the girth.  Very helpful.

I've altered your post slightly, since we can use standard wall plugs in Canada too. :P

Looks awesome, and congrats.

Rofl, might be standard there but not here :P and no problems :)

Now if only this cold would go away I could play with my new toys more :(

Extra note- the battery pack is very tight in the hilt and it's not just the speaker, its the whole package. This makes getting it out to change batteries difficult- lots of shaking, some swearing and some careful prying. I'm thinking of sanding two sides of the speaker surround flatter and gluing a loop of ribbon or something on so that I can pull it out easier.

Also quick coupler equals awesome! One very happy double bladed saber owner now :D

anyone happen to have one with a recharge port yet? I sort of would like to know where they would put it...after my dibacle with one of my previous sabers having the battery compartment break after changing batteries I've since upgraded both of them to recharge ports...and plan on doing that for all my sabers from now on lol...also what would the normal retention blade screw look like compared to the circular one? would it be like, say, the Dominix V4 where it doesnt stick out?

Both the blade retention screw options are sockets rather than grub screws. You can just see the flush option on the pic of mine, whereas James Casey had the normal socket I believe. The flush socket isn't the same size Allen (hex) key as use in other sabers I have either, we had to go find our Imperial (SAE- what you Americans refer to as standard I believe) hex key set and thankfully there was the right size in that. Some of the sizes used by Ultrasabers aren't easily available here in Aus, my husband had to buy them individually from the Snap On van so I had a full saber tool kit :/

Nice. Is that the Tri-Guardian Blue or Arctic Blue? @Blonde =] Looks like Tri-Guardian to me. At least you can change to Violet Amethyst whenever if you ever feel like going more canon with this one too :P So that is a super long screw then even for the button head option one? I like to spin with these kind of saber designs so I might do the button head screw option on mine if its more sturdier than before, like the screws I mean

It was arctic blue pulsing to guardian blue, so it could have been midway between pulse making it darker.

You can't make a TRI cree color with an Emerald driver... Well, you can make the GB color, it's the same color, but I mean it hasn't got three diodes of the same color to make it brighter...

Tell me about it. I placed the order for Project:BOOYA! back in April. the last new saber I felt in my hand was the Dom V4 that I won in that raffle. However, Project:BOOYA! is moving forward again ;D, and with luck I should be merrily spinning it like an idiot by Halloween.

I've been considering sending in my stunts to get upgraded. I was rather pleased with how the V4 came out.

Now that I have an Electrum Wind with sound, I'd also like to do an upgrade.  I'm especially interested in getting sound added to my Aeon LE V4, either doing it myself or having it upgraded by US.  I find myself continuously taking my Electrum Wind off of its stand and putting the blade in just so I can turn it on and swing it around and hear those sounds. :D (or doing it without the blade)

Oh nice. You should try to actually make it that color if possible then share results :P

Theres a lot of shades of blue in between the two as it pulses. I dont have a particular inclination to play with that right now. Maybe later down the track. Im happy with it as it is atm, and if i change it soon itll probably be to make it golden yellow coz I havent costumed with a yellow blade in some time :).

And as to violet amethyst, i honestly havent bought this saber because it is mace windus, in fact none of my hilts have been bought on the merit of 'whose hilt it is'. I bought it because i love the detailing and the tri colour hilt. The only reason id probably turn it to VA was if a friend wanted to have a look at it like that. TBH, im looking forward to playing with pommel/ emitter configs and seeing what I can come up with to customise it a little and make it look a little less like windu's hilt :)

I don't find the socket to be terribly inconvenient for wielding the hilt.  My dominant hand naturally goes to the textured section reverse of the controls, so it barely even touches the socket screw.  My nondominant hand is, of course, down on the grip area.  (I love where the covertec is on this hilt)  Granted, I haven't dueled with it, but I have swung it around a lot and practiced some moves with it.  It's quite a comfy saber and I don't find the socket screw to be an issue.

As for spinning, it's not much of a spinning hilt.  It's heavy, so it's not well balanced for spinning.  With the mid grade blade in it, I don't find it spins well at all.  In order to get good rotation, I find I have to hold it down lower, nowhere near the set screw.  Now, with a heavy grade, it may spin better.  I don't know, I only had a HG blade in it once.

I cant say ive tried spinning it yet- ive been too sick and getting worse plus we are away this weekend so double whammy- but it is a very heavy hilt (compared to my others) without a nice balance or choke point so I cant imagine it would be any good for spinning. Not at all like my dominix or archon which are beautiful for spinning.

Atm im at a crossroads (assuming im well enough by then)- next friday I have an event as my Jedi.... Do I go double bladed saber with my electrum wind on my belt, or use my electrum wind and forgo my usual double? I do so love my double shocks, they have the wow factor especially as this event will be outside at dusk.... But I kinda really wanna play with my new toy and the pulsating colours will look cool in the dark too :P decisions decisions....

Well, on my computer it's obvious that it's 4 (space) 24 in blades.  However, on my tiny phone on the bus when I was very tired from working, it looked like 424.  I thought "That's a little excessive."  :o

I cant say ive tried spinning it yet- ive been too sick and getting worse plus

Sorry to hear that.  I hope you've been to see a doctor so you can start getting better.

As to your dilemma with carrying one saber or another, I can't help you there.  I have four hilts with Covertecs, (two are identical) so I'd be playing the "which saber to carry" game in that situation also.  You could certainly carry both, as you said.  The double in hand and the EW on the belt.  That's a lot of UltraSaber goodness, which is never a bad thing. :D

Thanks, saw the doc when i was less bad coz i had to go home from work early, but I think I'm gonna have to see em again tomorrow when I get home coz I don't think ill be working on Monday :/

I usually carry my double shocks (well manticore emitters on my shocks so I call em shockcores :P ) or manticores and then have my arconsular (yep, archon emitter on consular) on my belt. But the advantage of having the electrum wind is for all its emerald/ v4 obsidian goodness :P

I have loved that feature so far.  I already created my own soundfont using the existing ones plus some I downloaded and picked different sounds from different fonts for the various events, i.e. Power On, Idle, Swing, etc.

I'm limited to the seven fonts plus mute that come with it, but that's fine by me.  The whole reason I got the V4 was because it comes with seven fonts, as opposed to one.

You can replace any of those 7 fonts with a new one.  You pick the memory channel you want to load your custom sound font on and then go through and pick a sound for each event and pick a name for your soundfont at the end and save it. What I did first, though, was export the sound font I was replacing so I could restore it later all those sounds at once by opening that file that I just saved.  I forget what the file extension is, but it's like a "theme".

Here's are quotes from Gorobulus and 123outerme in the following thread that give pretty good insight on installing/changing soundfonts on your Obsidian V4 saber:
http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=27051.0

1. Yes you have to overwrite an existing font. You also have to make sure the new font you want to put on will fit in that soundbanks allotted memory. 8 Soundbanks come standard on the V4, 7 actual soundfonts and one extremely small silent font which has basically nothing in it. If you want to put larger more detailed soundfonts on the V4 then you will have to reduce the number of soundbanks. This will yield more actual memory per soundbank.

2. I keep mine in my downloads file. If you keep them on your desktop and you're a soundfont junkie like I am, very quickly your desktop will be covered in soundfont folders lol As for why you cant find them, have you extracted the files? That would be the only reason I could think of that the launcher program cant see them.

3. There are tons of places to get new soundfonts. There are forum member created fonts here:
http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=11414.0

Ultrasabers themselves have a bunch of them for free here:(scroll down for the download links)
https://www.ultrasabers.com/Sound-Font-p/soundfont-manual.htm

You can also get them from here:
http://saberfont.com/saberFonts.shtml
These ones are not free and most of them were made for other soundboards, however soundfonts are soundfonts and they're all done the same way basically so I would think they would work with the Obsidian as well.

To open the files, assuming you're using the Obsidian Launcher V4, you must open the Sounds Wizard menu in the Obsidian Soundboard tab.

1 - Select the bank you want to replace, and then load the .lsu files into the different menus the tabs on the left bring up.

2 - This would be the perfect time to test each sound and make sure it's what you want. I personally dislike the clashes that sound just like blaster deflections, but that's just me. (And before anyone calls me out, I know that they usually are based off of Ep 4 and 5, but without the context of those movies it doesn't really work for me)

3 - Once you're done, click on the Write Sounds tab, and if you click the word Save on the bottom, you can save your soundfont as a .lsfgx file, which is what the Load button on the first tab is looking for.

4 - Then, just click Write Sounds.

No, I mean it when I say I'm locked with the seven fonts.  Running the Obsidian software and changing the fonts requires a computer running Windows or a Mac.  I have neither, I run a Linux-based operating system on my computers.  I installed the Obsidian software with a Windows compatibility program and it wouldn't interface with the saber.  So, I can't change the fonts on mine.  (if I could, I'd replace the ancient saber sound font)  But, I accepted this sort of limitation when I chose to stop running Windows on my computers.  That's why I got the V4, I wanted options.  ;)

However, have a point for attempting to help.

Well, as I said, it's a limitation I accepted when I chose to run Linux.  There is something I want to try, it involves a 32-bit version of a Linux distribution, the WINE (Microsoft compatibility program) source code and a patch to add USB capability to WINE.  It will be interesting to see how that goes.  ;)

Completely understand.  I have friends that have had to deal with similar limitations on their Linux distros but then they also had some advantages over the Windows guys that I envied, too.  Best of luck with your plan and +1 for you for perseverance.

Eh, I can't find those patches anymore.  They were incredibly old, and I guess they didn't work so well with current versions of the software.  So, I tried the latest development version of WINE.  Still no joy.  ::)

Oh well, it was worth a shot.

Well my Saber came in.

Absolutely beautiful.

The only major gripe I have is that the blade retention screw is different in terms of wrench size compared to my other sabers....had  I known that when I was ordering, I would have included the proper retention wrench. Just need to know what size it requires before I head down to my local hardware store.

The free stuff was an X blade plug and an Initiate LE V2 (meaning I can't really get it upgraded later but oh well haha)

I'll make a thread with pics of my sabers tomorrow once I find my camera.

Yeah, it's bigger.  It takes a 9/64 wrench, as opposed to the normal 5/64.  A few other sabers US sells use the larger size too.

This was my one problem with the two free sabers I've gotten in the past, being of the V2 line, they cannot be upgraded, and I wanted to upgrade them for at least sound before I gave them away as presents.  I still gave them away as presents, but they were slightly less than want I had wanted to give.  They were "Free" though.  Though I suppose the parents are happy that their kids new toys don't make noise.

So who has an Electrum Wind in Guardian Blue and made their own specs on it? I'm having a cool idea for mine =] Guardian Blue, square grips, black pommel, might do black av switch just to kinda match with the pommel sorta

^   That sound like a really nice build Zren - GB with those black accents mixed with the gold would look fantastic I think.

I'll go for it then =] Which set screw is more sturdier though? Or are they both plenty long enough? I like the flush of the button head screw though but just worried it might not hit the blade good enough like the Liberator V2 if you remember those problems x.x

The black switch may well match with the black grips too.

I'm always starting up new trends in sabers. Much like Alucard starting up trends in canons :P (See what I did there?) XD

Just ordered one today. Round grips and black pummel with Emerald LED and Obsidian sound. Also has an option for a gold round set screw for blade retention, nice touch. Cant wait for it to get here.

Excellent, Kailthir! I don't remember seeing the option for a gold button set screw when I got mine in September, but I very much like the sound of it! Combined with a black pommel, it will look sweet. I have the round grips on mine, too, and they make the hilt very comfortable to wield indeed. Congrats on your order! I'm excited right along with ya!

I just read on a few posts and a few videos that the EW can be a little loose? Is this true? Did I spend over $500 for a saber that wont hold up to dueling? Please tell me I didn't make a mistake.

The one I have used has not had any looseness to it that I can tell. I haven't used it a lot, but I think it is fine.

The only thing loose about mine is some of the shroud pieces if I don't have the retention screw tightened all the way.  With a heavy grade blade that you'd want for dueling, it's harder to get the screw all the way in, but not impossible.  You're just going to have a very deep divot in your blade.  ;)  However, the saber itself is rock solid.  Underneath the exterior shroud pieces, it's a solid aluminum tube with the emitter and pommel screwed into it.  The blade goes in nice and tight and, in my experience, doesn't wobble or anything.  It should be very duel-able.  :)

This is such a cool saber. I’d love to get one of these. Great choice for development.  Add it to the list!
