Title: Obsidian Clash Crash Problem. Need help.
Post by: DirtyJersey on October 12, 2011, 09:29:02 AM
Hi guys, I just got my Shock LE with Obsidian sound yesterday, and have already figured out how to customize my own sounds for it, but I've run into a problem with the Clash Sound. If I strike with the saber in rapid succession, the Clash sound stops working and instead the "Motion" noise is played. Once the Clash sound cuts out I have to power down and back on to get the clash to work again. Has anyone else come across this problem, or can anyone tell me why this happens? I'm hoping I didn't mess my sound board up. Someone please help.

Edit: Here is a screen shot of my current settings that go along with my custom sounds.

Well, my first question is did you add/change any of the sound files on the board?  If you did you might want to make sure that you didn't accidentally put motion sounds in the clash box.  I know I did once.  Other than that you can try lowering your threshold for impact detection.  Let us know how those two go.

Cheers.

I converted all my own fonts and made sure to triple check all the sounds before sending. I can't wait to show you guys my "Fire Themed" saber. I made the fire sounds to go along with the name of the saber, Gladius Extermino, which you guys might know by now means "Sword Set On Fire" in Latin.

I'll check the threshold setting as you suggested. My other thought if that doesn't work, is to set everything back to factory default. I hope your idea works first though. It took me most of the day to get my settings just right to match the sounds. It really is satisfying when you finally get it all matched up. I'm very proud of myself for figuring it out. Also, I must say a BIG thank you to everyone who posted in the tutorial threads on how to convert and install the fonts. That really helped a lot, and saved me loads of time. So, thank you my Saber Brothers, I appreciate the time and effort you put into the tutorials.

As a secondary check you can save your current font to a file and load it later , and reload the original fonts and settings see if it does the lock up. That will tell you if it is a change you made , or a problem with the card!

Also, try going back to the Default Obsidian Font and the default sensor setting to see if that helps with the issue.

I encountered the same clash  problem a few times while experimenting with the clash sensor settings. Reset back to the default sensor settings and you'll be OK.

That can happen due to the debouncing setting being too low.  If you have adjusted the debouncing setting, I'd recommend to increase it a bit.

BTW, I changed the debouncing setting as Ultra stated and it seems to be working better now. Thanks everyone for the help.

I actually didn't search for saber-specific sounds. I was looking for other real world sounds. I can't say exactly what I searched because it is a surprise for one of my upcoming reviews. I do believe though, that the site is just a search engine which finds other web pages with sounds on them. So if you search Lightsaber, you may come up with sounds from many different sites across the web.

I came across that problem with some sounds. You may have to convert the wavs to the specifications that are given in the sound font thread. I don't know the thread off hand, but it should be in the Obsidian Order section of this site.

Ahh, wait, I found the thread that helps with info on how to convert your wavs to a usable format. Check this thread out http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=3244.0 (http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=3244.0)
That one is how I learned to convert sounds to LSU.
