Title: Advice please.
Post by: TR-77477 on April 16, 2018, 12:50:42 PM
I am working on a new project that I need some advice. My plan is to make a temple guard saber. I have a good design already planned but I am having issues on how to hide the activation switches.

Do you have a rough sketch TR?

A pic or two would certainly help.

I've seen a number of custom sabers with the switches in the pommel, and there are the micro-tactile ones that can be strategically placed...

I will post one when I get home in a little while.   It’s going to be a standard temple guard saber. I’m using some drawings I found online as a guide.

Well, so the switches COULD be behind those red squares.  That is possible with micro tactiles...

Another option would be to just have them counter-sunk into the middle section.  That way, you could ignite them both with one hand - ala DM. ;)

Are you intending to do an MHS build TR?

I’m working on a few different options.  I would like to go MHS or another way of making it come apart.

As of now plan C or D or whatever is together two standard sabers in yellow along with a extension from css. Then make two sets of custom sleeves to attach to the sabers and give it the finished look. Then rewire it to a single switch.

Sounds like a sound plan. Just make sure you plan battery/recharge accordingly.
Changing batteries in the Wrath is an...interesting exercise because of the 'exhaust' emitter.

Another option for the switch - the black thumb-screw in the drawing.  Replace that with a black non-lit VA switch?

Put in a three position rotary momentary switch where that knobby thing is, one way lights one end other way lights the other. or a 4 way rocker so one the other and both with one dead position. I know they are probably too big but you never know what you can find. This is of course assuming sound if it is a stunt then three position locking with one lit one way and both lit the other.

That sounds like an enormous hilt.  Do you have any means of cutting the hilts down?

I may end up going with the smaller hilt like maybe and initiate. I’m still working on getting the scale correct

Ok so givinng it a look over, these sabers are big.  They have large handles and short blades.

It’s tough to say about the scale.  The largest extension I see on the site is 6 inches.  That looks a little larger than 6.  You’d want the middle section to be comparable to the lengths of one of the hilts on each end.

As for the switch, I like the idea of the knob.  Kinda like the MR Maul Saber did.

I did some measuring last night with the pieces I’ve already made. I think him initiate or the apprentice will be the proper size. that in conjunction with the extender from CSS should make the right size. This thing is going to be a beast.

I have started working on the sleeves, They are going to be the most detailed. In order to help with the weight I am using a tough but light plastic. I will be adding metal pieces to it and small details.

Looking very good here. Plans for securing them to the saber?

I plan on securing them with just the inherent grip that the pieces already have. I designed it so I should only have to use the minimal of hardware to keep everything in place

Sounds kind of like what I did with my Dominix V2
