Title: Revan Armor Project
Post by: Lady Revan on October 26, 2018, 06:37:33 PM
So this has been my first armor building project and there was a request to post what’s finished so far. I’m going to be building more later tonight (I still have to do some detailing and connecting pieces for the breastplate and to do one more shoulder plate, both hand guards, and the mask in Worbla covering, but they’re already done in foam).

Below are pics of the pieces I’ve done so far and of some of the under pieces of the costume.

Under robes and gloves with wig (wig has since been restyled & this pic was before Butcher/savior ship date)

Cloak (though it will be altered to connect to breastplate when finished)

I'm digging how the armour is coming out, Lady Revan.  Following this thread and looking forward to updates

I’ve figured out how to make the center connector between the breastplate pieces flexible to allow for combat movement, but it’s a delicate piece and I can’t attach until after painting. Gonna probably spend my whole birthday on Sunday painting so I can finish all of the attachments in time. It’s going to be for Halloween, yes (as well as other things) but I have a performance the day before where we’re supposed to dress in costumes, so I’d like to have it done for then. My boyfriend is going to dress as Carth and one of my friends *might* do Bastila if she can figure out an overlay for the body suit. Cats are going to be Gizka XD

Thanks!

Just finished coating all of the armor pieces (lower breastplate still needs side cover and a couple pieces need detail work, but it’s mostly done) and now I’m working on the mask. I used thinner foam to keep it from getting too bulky. Figured I’d take a pic before coating in Worbla and shaping.

Worbla and shaping, check! It ended up a tad longer than I intended, but still miles better fit than the backup one I bought

One of these days I’ll remake and get the proportions correct lol. The “gizka” were trying to be helpful while I was tracing, which is where I think the discrepancy came into play.

Is it the mask that is too long??

A tad. It’s not as bad as the premade, but still slightly longer than what’s visually and functionally optimal.

Gizka just love to help -_-‘ and to demand pets. I still call BS in the Sith Academy questions in KOTOR II claiming that a gizka is not an aporopriate pet for a Sith

Oh hell ya! Looking incredible m’lady!!! What is that material?

Thank you! It’s Worbla with a foam core for shape. Worbla is a variety of moldable thermoplastic that gets quite hard when cool. Just finished priming, base coat, and first layer of paint on the upper breastplate, mask, and shoulder pads. Will post pics soon.

Hello Lady Revan,

A friend of mine uses Worbla and it's amazing what she can make with the stuff!
I like the look of the mask being longer...it looks more sinewy and sinister if you know what I mean.

point for your efforts.

Thanks! I do prefer a thinner mask, giving the illusion of it being longer, but when it’s too long (goes too low down) you start to get an issue with the chin hitting your collarbone and breastbone. This one is manageable as it turned out, but I have to remember to bend at the waist if I need to look down too far (and I’ve made it so the waist IS flexible, so at least that’s a possibility).

Thank you for the points. I accept both light and dark ;)

And don't worry I figured out you accepted both currencies of Force Points  ;D

Waiting for it to dry enough that I can do the red. It’s really close, but if I tape over right now I’m going to end up pulling paint up >.< I’m tempted to confiscate the bathroom so I can prime the rest of the pieces so all I have to do tomorrow night is paint the rest and Monday can be left to attaching detail work. I’m going to cut/sew the vinyl leather for the pectoral area where the cape attaches to the breastplate when I get home later. Not being able to paint at home had made this far more stressful in terms of timing than it should be :( I need to have it ready for Tuesday rather than Wednesday, so that shaves a day off

I had a sponge! >:) Silver will need touching up because of red bleeding.... but then again, the mask has been half-buried on Cathar for 13 years prior to Revan finding it, so it doesn’t need to be too pretty lol

So serious Master!! I like the blood concept, but, as a former painter, appreciate a clean paint job too!! Great work LR. How do you work the Worbla? I’d be interested in trying to make some armor pieces out of it.

So serious Master!! I like the blood concept, but, as a former painter, appreciate a clean paint job too!! Great work LR. How do you work the Worbla? I’d be interested in trying to make some armor pieces out of it.

I have a cheap heat gun that I use to heat the Worbla just enough to make it flecible and work in small sections at a time. It’s best to mold the Worbla over some sort of core, so I used EVA for the center. As for raised detailing, some people mold with Worbla scraps or later foam underneath. I tried a few things (layered foam, 3D craft paint, DAP sealant, and more Worbla) and found that what worked the best for raised line details is actually the DAP (the Worbla molds beautifully over top of it). I just work bare hands and nails with the Worbla, but if you’re more sensitive to heat you might try gloves and sculpting tools to handle it. Just make sure you don’t overheat the Worbla to a mush if you’re trying to use it as the sheet instead of for sculpting. Once it’s over the foam, it’s nice to give a last pass over with the heat gun to make sure it’s really firmly pressed to the core.

And I’m with you on cleaning up the paint job. If anything, places of the paint should be chipped, or corroded... but not smeared lol.plus the red paint is metallic (it’s difficult to see in the pictures) so it doesn’t really look like blood anyway.

Great work with the Wornla and painting there, LR. I look forward to the completion of this project and you all suited up

Thanks! I have to be suited up by Tuesday, so it will be soon... though I might leave simplified for Tuesday in the day and then use the night to finish finer details for Wednesday.... then it’s off to cleanup for later uses. I’m hoping eventually I can find a better center ring for the sash. One I have currently is plastic that I had to paint metallic, but I would prefer a more chromelike finish (right now it’s super silvery).

My pleasure! There are lots of great Worbla armor tutorials on YouTube that can give you step by steps with visual. It’s much easier to work with than I had expected. Only thing is that for full body armor, cost can add up quickly. This isn’t too bad because the actual armor portions are very minimal, but you are looking at around $42-$50 USD for a large Worbla sheet. This has used about 3 sheets total for breastplate, bracers/handguards, and mask. The material is also very sensitive to heat, so you shouldn’t store it or finished projects in a vehicle or anywhere too warm

Some progress! Bottom needs to be painted still and then I need to connect and add the vinyl leather parts (pectorals and belt/sash) and Velcro/straps, but it’s close to finish. Working on the vinyl parts now so I just have to stick them together tomorrow. Gizka is trying to help though. I think I’ll canibalize my pre-made mask for the visor and strap.

Yup! It's not as long or bulky as the pre-made, but I ended up setting the jaw pieces too low in the overlap, so it's a little long in proportion. I'll probably re-make it smaller at a later date, but it's functional for now. I installed the padding and visor I cannibalized from the pre-made this morning. All that's left is the strap, which I wanted to cannibalize also, but I'm not sure I can safely remove it without damaging...

I'm about to run to the hardware store to pick up more metallic black paint, since that's my basecoat and I ended up using a lot of my paint on the blaster pistols for the boyfriend's costume. I'm going to do some last-minute DAP details on the back bottom of the breastplate before I head out though so it can by dry enough for me to cover when I get back. Tonight is going to be crazy piecing things together since I need it to be wearable for tomorrow. The pieces are finished, but I can't actually attach anything until it's all painted. I can wait and do some of the finer detailing Tuesday night (I won't be able to pick up the snaps to decorate the bottom of the mask until then anyway), but I'll have photos of a working version by tomorrow afternoon.

Thank you!!! I’m going to repaint the cotton tonight and alter the cape and fix the right bracer (apparently I’ve gained muscle in my right forearm specifically since measuring). The primer wasn’t fully dry on the bottom of the bracer when I had to start painting, and so pieces of paint have been globbing off as a result >.<

I also need to finish the Gizka costumes tonight. Will take pics of the Gizka and a Revan/Carth pic with the BF tomorrow. My friend who was going to do Bastila couldn’t get the costume together in time so she bailed :( Saber action shot coming later :D )

Awe, c'mon, the orange jacket is the best. :P

I usually give Carth armor as quickly as my character doesn't need it. Both for protection and because his default outfit is hideous. Though, so is most of the regular clothing for your main character. Only the Scoundrel has a cool looking outfit. Fortunately, a combat suit appears quite quickly on the Endar Spire. It looks much better than the mining outfit you get stuck with for a while in KOTOR II.

Mining outfit is an upgrade to the body suit you do the first part of Peragus in XD Fun sights for Atton and Kreia ;)

I've heard so many jokes about the orange jacket, and tried to convince him to try it, but he's Mr GQ and refused lol. Comic Carth gets a cool trenchcoat... but he jstill has an orange vest XD Or maybe that's just the orange jacket unbuttoned and under a different jacket. :P

Scoundrel certainly has the best outfit though. Also, the blue robes you get off of Nemo's corpse when you find the Dantooine Star Map. The blue robes are my favorite! ^_^

There's no need to apologize. I realize it was a typo. My comment was merely in jest, lol. Please accept this apology point for the misinterpretation.

Thank you! I'm studying classical voice to become a professional opera singer. I try to post livestreams when I can. Last year our Halloween forum was streamed, but this year it was not, so I asked a friend to film for me. Next one streamed I believe is 11/13 for my university's opera scenes program, and then one week later a lecture recital I'm doing on the development of the portrayal of Ophelia's madness over time in vocal music. I'm singing as a soloist for an upcoming "Messiah" also, but IDK if that performance will be streamed or not.

And thank you! I'm going to add a couple details to the mask, fix the cape so it clips to the breastplate, and maybe redo the belt/sash (I measured it without the armor, so I had to wear it super low for it to fit. Also finishing up the Gizka tonight, but they're simple. The head piece of their costume was pre-made and I only have to build the body.

Hello Lady Revan,

I have to agree with Therion Jinn, that is an amazing instrument you have with your voice, fabulous.
And you managed your performance while coping with a slight wardrobe malfunction!

Regards to embedding your videos, there has been a problem with YouTube and forums for a year or two now. It is down to the type of videos YT used to use (these were Flash Player format) But it has been found that Flash Player may have security flaws so YT (and a lot of other websotes) are ditching this format of video and moving to HTML5 based players and video. This means they may not embed. Some forums accept Flash videos while not able to display HTML5 and vice versa. And on-one has a solution to the problem except watching the videos on the host site.

point for your fantastic talent.

I've managed worse situations. Last Year I sang "Der Hölle Rache" (The Queen of the Night's Revenge aria) with a bomb threat keeping an audience hostage and three helicopters circling (it was an outdoor performance). That was intense XD I've also had to get dressed onstage, skirts tearing onstage, props rolling off into the orchestra pit (on more than one occasion), burning things purposefully onstage, and having to sight read solos in performance with the composer present x_x Never a dull moment in opera! XD

And fun times. I see other people embed them sometimes, so I keep wondering what I'm doing wrong.  Good to know that it's a broader problm though and not just my own incompetence.

And thank you! :D here's a point back

Ah yes the theatre and opera, I only had to deal with crossed frequencies with radio mics during Topol's "If I Were A Rich Man" in Fiddler. There was a fitness centre next door to the theatre and it's aerobics instructor just happened to have the same mic set-up and freq as Topol. All I could hear on the monitor headset was this heavy breathing and counting. Had to rush from the sound desk to backstage and swap the mic packs between Topol and a lesser character. Had the City Mayor in for that show.

Then there are overheating lighting packs, scenery flats falling, hanging off the lighting catwalks in a 6-point harness after being knocked off the walkway (makes your eyes water that!)

I miss being a Technician. And you are far from incompetent.

I passed out before I could do all of the alterations I wanted to, so cloak and belt/sash are still the same and Gizka will have to wait for their full costumes until later when we take them to a pumpkin patch.

I was able to do all of the major repairs to the shoulders and to the bracers and to the paint on the lower breastplate, and add some additional details to the mask, but too sleepy for the rest >.<

Thanks! I didn’t catch until after that he didn’t have his shirt tucked in -_- I’ve convinced him to attempt the orange jacket for next time lol.

Some punk was lucky he was there to prevent me bashing his head in >:( drunk dude tried to grope me (thank goodness for body armor, but he did pull a shoulder plate off in the process) but BF held my arm back and scared him off with the blaster (guy was too drunk to realize it wasn’t a gun apparently). Funny how the toy ended up being the thing to scare him off and not the thing that could have actually hurt. You know, that's the darker side of cosplaying especially for women. I have lots of female friends that cosplay lots of characters, some sexy and some aren't.  Lots of idiotic dudes uses the woman costume as an excuse to sexually assault them.  That's happened when my unit and I cosplayed at a convention back in the mid 2000s and they did that to one of our Sergeants not knowing that she's a Marine surrounded by her platoon mates.  She punched him and when his friends tried to jump in, so did we.  The 5 of them got their a***s handed to them.

There's no place for that kind of crap, seriously, no place for that whatsoever drunk or not.  Luckily, you didn't bash him with your saber which would also done a lot of damage.  Sorry that happened to you, LR.

Drunk or not, that's uncalled for. He needed a heavy grade blade to the head, but the problem is he would have been too drunk to feel it. He would have woken up with an even nastier headache, though. Some people have no class, and alcohol just brings it to the surface.

Title: Re: Revan Armor Project

Yeah, in retrospect, it’s probably better “Carth” did it because politics and that’s as far as that can go without discussing politics, which is forbidden by the rules. Those would have been some very satisfying dark side points though.... but I digress.

On a lighter note, the former costuming consular now current assistant temple head at my local branch of Saber Guild thinks that I should submit the costume for build approval when I finish my planned alterations, so that’s exciting! I’m still working on my first approved costume for them in general and was planning on a few characters to be flexible in performances (a human Jedi sentinel, and a Miraluka Sith Sourceress) but I’m actually closer to finishing this than either of those, so my first approved character might very well be Revan (and the first face canon character of the Temple, unless one of the members gives into peer pressure and does Episode VIII Luke first because he looks the part so much). My concern for submitting was the context of the Revan novels (even though they were published 8-10 years after the game was released) and SWtOR, which both “canonize” Revan as male... but many of the books aren’t considered canon, and SWtOR characters are always iffy for submissions (I’m not 100% certain why, but I recall reading it in the costuming guidelines), so he and the former Temple head don’t seem to think there will be any sort of an issue regarding gender (Revan’s armor is ambiguous enough masked and hooded anyway thatyou can’t tell, which was in the spirit of the original games).

Long story short: THIS PROJECT IS NOT OVER! But it will be paused for a couple weeks until I get through my lecture recital, Krystalnacht memorial service, and opera scenes concert (the first two weeks of November are hell for my schedule).

Oh I wish I had too, but it probably would have been sadly considered assault rather than self defense, and I would rather not deal with the legalities involved in the matter.

And thank you (about the performance). Temple is going to attempt a “Palpative at the opera”  political intrigue skit once I get a costume approved.

Balaclava and Boots came today. Slowly but surely working to get this Saber Guild ready! Dual wielding the Butcher is going to take some work though just because of my hand size. >.< I’m considering shortening the blade to shave off some weight. It’s more the weight than the size that’s causing issues. It’s too front heavy and the balance is awkward. Might go to 30” or 28” rather than 32” to lighten from the front... or maybe I can find a way to weight the pommel...

Finding Boots that fit me at all is a struggle, and finding ones that are saber guild approved was even worse. I like them a lot better in person than I did online, so that's good. Got the same pair in brown too for my eventual Jedi costume (I'm also working on a Jedi Sentinel character based on the eventual "Reprogrammed Revan" in my fanfic, but that one's ironically more difficult to put together).

If you know any ladies looking for Saber Guild approved boots for their Jedi/Sith costumes, Shoedazzle.com "Nnenna" style flat boot comes in both black for Sith and brown for Jedi (as well as in taupe and Bordeaux for general wear) and I've received confirmation from the Costume Consulars that it is Saber Guild approved. Comes in sizes 5.5-12 and is $39.95 a pair for VIP members or 1 VIP credit (and right now also buy 1 get 1 free, which happened right after my purchase, so I'm a bit salty XD). Ladies Jedi boots are a pain, especially if you have small feet >.<

Update: if you have “tall” feet due to high arches (like myself), get the next size up. I’m a size 5 and the 5.5 are a snug fit because the top of my foot is higher than average (because I have very high arches). Same reason why I can’t wear Toms. Hopefully the tops will loosen out a bit with breaking in, but these are definitely going to need trouser socks to help deter friction. There’s a weathered look on the soles though that adds a nice touch and I hate the buckles less than I thought I would lol

Yeah, but the cool thing about Revan is that there were multiple faces to choose from in the game. ;) And, the "canon" one chosen for SWTOR matched none of the ones from the original game, just as Meetra Surik's matched none of them from KOTOR2.

Glad I could help! Finding boots for petite ladies is always a struggle. I brought mine to our last craft classes that a lot of Saber Guild members attend and 2 of them are getting the same boots now lol. Fun fact: they’re also vegan friendly (it’s a high quality faux leather) which is a struggle another one of them was having finding. I hope your daughter likes them. I did the entire last saber class in them (3 hours of mostly Luke VS Vader Episode VI) and they were fine the whole time.

Haha, idk if I could build custom armor for other people. I would need an adjustable mannequin for that, and to better solidify a pattern. Not to mention the fact that I’m incompetent with a sewing machine and do all the sewing sections by hand instead, so I would have to charge extra for time.... and I have nowhere to paint in my apartment and my boyfriend’s mom would kill me if I used their backyard to paint other people’s armor as well XD it would have to be an extremely specific set of circumstances.

I might try to start building sabers though, now that I have a smoldering kit. Also means I can repair all of those loose wires on my own. I think I did it to the red LEF wire in my Savior during class last weekend. It was all of those bashes from the Luke VS Vader VI choreography likely...

An armor for your Jedi Kazuto character. I say some shoulder pads, arm guards, shin guards to start with.  Maybe find a Dark Trooper's chest piece and use that or paint a Storm Trooper's chest piece black and then paint something on the chest armor that reflects Kazuto

Just know that when you have the breastplate on (if you go that route), single two handed wielding becomes more difficult because of how close you can bring your arm across your body. Dual wielding or single handed is almost easier I noticed wearing it....

That being said, I just realized I need to edit something in the chapter I’m currently working on if my fanfic. I forgot she’s wearing the armor now.... unless I specify she’s not wearing it, which could also work in context. Hmmm....

Excellent! Shouldn’t be an issue for you then. It was the main thing I noticed wearing the Revan armor, and it sort of pushed me into a habit of single handing when I have 1 Blade now.... which is better practice for dual wielding anyway, but far less practical when you are smol and defending.

I think if you flip your hold, it's easier to block single wielding.

Not really. It’s more of an issue of the inertia on the impact causing ricochet. There are some angles that are easier to block with inverted grip, but mostly it’s an issue of I need to turn my blocks into almost a block bash to stop the momentum of the oncoming saber with an opposing force.

Your not exactly wrong, and I see your logic, but a reverse grip (which i use quite a bit) doesn't give you much leverage for blocking unfortunately.
That's just what I've noticed for myself anyway. If you can make it work, more power to ya!

Well I also read it off a youtube comment, and it might have also been in regard to steal long swords. Also dual wielding if you're fighting someone with one weapon, you can cross you blades and block that way. Though also I've yet to have any serious sparing.

Crossing blades is better for some blocks, but not all. On a similar note, you can block with both blades from the same direction. Most of what I do is combat choreography rather than full-contact, so you also take into account what looks best from an audience perspective.... depending on what you’re coming out of, it can also be awkward to try to block some things with both sabers. I’ve also found that sometimes what makes sense for an attack or block on paper isn’t necessarily what flows the best in the moment, and often find myself attacking/defending right with my left hand and vice versa. I’ll try to film some of the Choreographed Movements (CMs) my temple uses dual blades VS one and show you what I mean. There’s one specifically that’s notoriously difficult with dual blades even though it’s arguably the easiest CM single blade. Everyone in the temple who dual wields does it differently, but I think my defense might be the most efficient (without being too biased :P ). Attacking l, that one is significantly easier reverse grip when dual wielding though. My preferred defense for it, however, is forward grip. But opposite sides (left blocks right and right blocks left)

Haha, most you learn through experience. Like I said, what seems to work on paper isn’t necessarily what works best in the moment. Unfortunately when it comes to dual wielding, most of it is trial and error trying to translate existing single blade stuff for two blades... I’m currently working on creating an original “Revan VS Bastila” (even though they’re both using single blades in the cut scene, where is the fun of neither using their signature style?) choreography designed to be done with one person with dual blades and the other with staff... except I suck at staff (largely because of my height) so it has made it much more difficult than I originally anticipated. I don’t think I can get much further with the choreography project though until I have a better understanding of staff. I’m hoping to learn Obi VS Maul CMs soon to start getting a feel for it in a choreography written for staff specifically.

Yeaaaaah, Revan’s signature is dual blades (which you get to fight an apparition of him/her with in KOTOR II) and Bastila uses staff the entire game other than that flashback.

Which skills have you chosen. Sometimes you actually do less damage dual wielding. My current research playthrough, “Gwen”, discovers this the hard way more than once lol

I've been doing more single wield lately, buff up that dueling skill. Like Lady Revan said, you can do less damage with two swords/lightsabers. I used to do the two sabers thing, but I've been altering my play style lately. You know, keeping it interesting. ;)

Always try to change it up! lol. I decided to have Bastila fully make amends with her mother this game, and have been trying really hard to keep Gwen "Grey leaning slightly Light." I'm being extra careful not to trigger Dustil Quest yet though, because I really want to save Korriban for last, but I also want to Romance Carth all the way >.> He's at that point now where I have to be careful where I take him... I've noticed some subtle differences in the mobile, so I'm wondering if any of the lesser mods are included (I doubt it but I wouldn't mind the kiss mod for the female Romance; it felt like it should of been there to begin with since it's a teasing topic after the second star map...)

Title: Re: Revan Armor Project

Yeah, I'm waiting to trigger the Bastilla mother quest, for basically the same reason. Romance, etc. Just conversations in general. I'm doing Kashyyyk first, and I don't want to have her mopey about her mother for a whole planet. ;) (also, there's something I can pick up on Kashyyyk that's a time saver for a side quest later)

At least Bastila's you finish by default by finding the Tattooine Star Map. Carth's is tricky because if you haven't saved Dustil before you find the Star Map on Korriban, you end up having to kill him, and then Bye bye Romance... Usually why I don't save Korriban for last on my female playthroughs, but I want to be able to have the extra dialogue after the reveal for the research playthrough...

I finish all of my side quests before I do the Star Map on Korriban.

I've only played once as a female, just to see how it was ending the game as a Sith female. The whole Carth thing gets a little f***ed up. ;)

There’s a restored content mod for a cut dark side female ending that’s so beautiful 😭 it’s similar to the Male Revan Bastila romance light side ending... Carth convinces you to return to the way of the light, to stop Bastila from using her Battle Meditation so the Republic can win and you and Carth die together on the Star Forge. It’s beautiful.

And unfortunately finishing all side quests before Korriban is impossible for female if you want to also Romance Carth. You can do it before the Star map (and HAVE TO if you start it), but then you can’t wait to tell all of the peoples that you are the Dark Lord

Thanks! There's still a couple pieces from what I posted here that was incomplete that I'll be finishing slowly as I have time to build more. I'm also planning on building Star Forge Robes for the Light Side version (and Nemo's robes as well, but that one is more sewing than building, and I can ONLY hand sew, so that will take a while XD .

The purple saber you see is the Ultrasabers "Butcher" Black anodized in Dark Violet Amethyst with pulse to Violet amethyst with silver flash on clash and red illuminated silver AV switch.

I also have a separate but related armor I commissioned from Wicked Armor before I started this project. It should be finished and arriving very soon, so I'll post that when it's finished. ;)

It's almost tiiiiiiiiiime! Assuming that my proper undertunic will ship on Monday (I was technically supposed to "receive" it by yesterday -_-), pics for costume submission for Saber Guild will be taken on Friday. Hoping to get Darth Revan and a few others approved in time for Star Wars Celebration Trooping (Deadline for submissions is March 1st), but Revan is the first who is going to be completed (Bastila should be finished soon after, once the body suit is finished, and I have a generic Jedi and a Twi'lek who may or may not make it in time).

Will post pics of the final product. Keep in mind that this submission is a different set (commissioned) than the one I built here, which I will likely submit later for an "alternate" outfit (personally, I think my painting and use of vinyl is more accurate, but the other more definitely meets costuming restrictions and requirements).

Once I figure out the hair at least, when my staff is back from repairs, and maybe once the actual jumpsuit comes instead of the spandex one. That one is also a Saber Guild submission (Fun Fact: I would be the first SG approved Bastila). Finding a not spandex body suit of an acceptable fabric was the hard part. Right now I have no saber for it unless I put yellow filters in my Sentinel V4 LE Staff :( the Catalyst Staff had an LED Malfunction and I shipped it off for repairs yesterday.

This one is a different costume version I started a commission for before started building mine. Mine was a first armor building project. Some of the detailing I think is technically more accurate on mine, but this one is easier to wear, more coherent, and is the 501st version :P

Looking good, from what I can see.

Thanks! I had to do a short video to show I could safely perform choreography in the mask also and that the armor would stay together, but I probably won't post the demo one. It's super ridiculous and slow because we're in a tiny room with a low light and ceiling fan, trying not to hit it the whole time lol

Thanks! It bothers me in the video that the right shoulder of the capelet is off. I lifted my arm super high so that they could get the side of the armor in pictures, but then they didn't fix it back over my shoulder when I put my arm back down lol. The "front" shot is fine, but they might make me resubmit if they're feeling particularly picky since it's off in the back shot and video >.<

Thanks! Looking back at the video though, they might make me resubmit :( when I lifted my right arm to show the armor side, the costume assistant didn’t fix the capelet back, so in the back photo and in the video, my right shoulder is exposed because the capelet rode up the side and the top of the full cape is also sticking out as a result on that side. Depends on the mood of whoever is reviewing :/

So I was right in needing to redo but not because of the hood actually. The picture is too dark to see the ribbing or color on the shirt and the video needs to show more complicated stuff (which I figured, but that was all that was possible with the space lol.

Not having to redo any of your work is a good thing.
New pics/videos are much easier to come up with

Yup! To be fair, not much more could have been done in the corner in a low ceiling room. I’ll probably bring it to class this weekend to do. I might have to replace part of my Jedi, but I’m waiting for the official word back. Right now I just have notes.

I haven't decided yet. I like the idea of the catsuit, but I'm afraid I may be self conscience in it. I'd probably be more comfortable in the dress, and that version isn't done quite as much, which is also good. Although I'm hoping to lose some weight before I make the costume anyway, so maybe I'll feel better about the catsuit.

UPDATE!

I was able to confirm the reshoot for this weekend, so I'll be sure to share the updated choreography video! All the new pics for Revan will just be showing that the balaclava and detailed ridge on the shirt exist, so not really stuff worth sharing :P Once that's said and done, I'll likely hear back within the week.

Hello Lady Revan,

Just checked out your videos (and left likes) and to me they look good. Size matters not, not just because Yoda told us but even in the "real" world differences can be overcome. Take for example the great martial arts star Bruce Lee, he fought against Kareem Abdul Jabaar in a movie and made the fight look convincing despite the vast difference between their heights. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the feedback, For! :D I actually work with this person a lot, but in different choreographies (she the one in all of my "Anikoo" videos). I actually had to ask her to lower her block after the duck just a little for me though XD

Yeah, I can see that being an issue.

Not on the same scale at all, but I remember my 10th birthday when I was "too tall" for the kids ride I wanted to go on at the Fair :( I was so confused/devastated because I've always been considered smol. The guy running the Carousel across from it felt bad for me and let me ride for free though so it worked out in the end. The Carousel has been my favorite Ride ever since :D They changed the rules though at the zoo Carousel in the city where I grew up though and now I'm too tall for it :( If I bring my littlest brother along though they usually overlook because I'm "chaperoning" >:D

Bruce Lee was 5'6" and Kareem Abdul Jabbar was 7'2" ! Just for comparison and example. But with a few adjustments and variation of techniques their choreography worked.
I also wanted to correct my earlier spelling mistake of Kareem's name!

Dang!

I think closest I've been to that was a time I was doing the finale from La Traviata as a scene. I was Violetta with my just under 5'1" self and "Alfredo" was 6'7." It was fine while I ws lying in bed dying from tuberculosis, but the moment we got to bows it was rather laughable. "Annina" was 5'11" so that only further added to the LOLz.

hi again,

"Alfredo" could have done the gentlemanly thing and held his arms down by his sides and just bowed from the waist rather than doing a full theatre "swing and bow" - that might have worked.

It all comes down to making little changes to the choreography....camera angles, speed of movements, different techniques to compensate...but you are already on the way to becoming a good choreography as you have stated you have made adjustments such as lowering the block. You recognise the problems and work them out.

That is correct. It's a "safety" video to prove I'm not a danger to myself or others. The person who already approved does Revan himself in the Guild, so his opinion on the matter is probably most important.

Thanks :D It's pretty good for movement. Only tricky part is arm movement across the body, particularly higher up, but either dual sabers or single handing high stuff with one solves the issue.

I’m pretty sure there’s some temples in your state. You might look into how close they are and where/when they meet. Saber Guild follows the same face character costume guidelines as 501st and Rebel Legion, so if it meets the requirements for one, then it (in theory ) meets the requirements for the others as well. Saber Guild does have a few extra guidelines, just because they are the only one of the 3 That specifically deals with combat choreography (so they have to have a few extra regulations in place for safety reasons).

So far "Corellia Temple" the NJ chapter is a decent option. No PA proper temple, but NJ is far from prohibitive for me. I live near the border, actually. :)

I AM going off RL/501st standards for my costume, so that's good that they hold the same standards.

*Edit* It appears there's only two Mara Jade within the organization, which is perfect!

In Saber Guild? From what I can see, that's what it looks like. It's a lot newer and smaller than 501st and RL. I'm only the 658th accepted costumed member, and there are several "retired" numbers before me. They've also recently changed over to a new site and not all of the member profiles are up yet, so it's technically possible there's more, but still very few. Rey and Kylo are the most popular "face" characters by far (but really Rey-- there are so many x_x).

You can still wear it for Rebel Legion :P You might also be able to use it as an alternative outfit costume change for a script involving Mara. Doesn't seem like Mara Would be too tricky to change in and out of, so it might work for a specific script setting. Something ROTJ Era Emperor sends Mara to Assassinate Luke.

My mother is a seamstress and the only other costumed lady in the temple here makes all her own costumes sewing from scratch, so I think I’ll be good. Gotta see if she and I can go on another field trip to “the fabric store.” It has no name. It is just”the fabric store.” Cash only but it’s the cheapest fabric price you’ll find anywhere and they have all the good fabrics in giant bulk bolts. I want me some hopsack linen for this.

The underground lol. I was communicating with the builder’s wife about a touch up for the paint on my mask and mentioned wanting to do a Star Forge Revan soon, at which point she mentioned they were working on one and sent a pic of the early prototype. Right now it’s just pretty much the Darth Revan recolored though. I sent her the Rebel Legion CRL for Star Forge robes and suggested they use it as a guideline since they’ll get more business if it’s able to be LFL approved

May The Force Serve You Well on your quest, LR
I look forward to seeing them

Thanks! :D Money I've been waiting for should finally arrive tomorrow or early Saturday at which point I'm raiding Amazon, JoAnns, Michaels, and "The Fabric Store" for supplies. I think I'm finally going to invest in a dress form too, especially for piecing together the leather breastplate...

My grandmother made clothes for dolls, and for her dress form, she used the bottles for liquid Ivory soap.  Somehow, I don't think you're going to find something quite so economical for your purposes.

Dang it...

Nah, but I got a cheap one off Amazon for less than $100. Great reviews and it has adjustable sizing. It’s the “small” though, so it might not work if I try to use it to make hints for other people lol. I’m just hoping “small” is real small and not vanity sizing small. It’s irritating going to stores and some stuff labeled XS is too big because the company does vanity sizing >.< I get it that some people are insecure about being labeled as a certain size and want to be called something smaller, but it causes struggles for petites when the  smallest size is still too big so you have to go to the kids section >.>
