Title: My 1st Oil Change aka Battery Recharge & Font Swap
Post by: jayryan84 on November 10, 2018, 04:12:14 PM
So my Sentinel's batteries finally ran out last night, obviously figured that when the Saber shut off while I was testing some different LEE Filters/Color Discs... So I popped the Hilt open, tossed the batteries in my charger (thankfully I've got multiple chargers for vaping and other hobbies :o ).

I noticed the USB port on the Sentinel's sound board and figured "Let's try something new!".

I browsed the Free Fonts available via US and tried the Sith Font, I wasn't really feeling it. So I tried the OldRepublicJedi one (think that's the name)... It seems pretty familiar to the default Font that came w/ the Saber. I really like the Idle sound, I believe it's the 2nd one if you hit the button twice... It reminds a little bit of Episode I for some reason, mostly the last battle Que-Gon/Obi-Wan vs Darth Maul.. not sure why heh.

Now I'm interested in trying even more out.. I know there are a lot of great Fonts available from users on the forum as well as a bunch of one's offered by US I have not tried yet.

Just curious, I am wondering what someone would recommend for this Saber by just looking at it heh... I received my Sentinel in a $75 grab bag, it came in A. Silver, and came with Premium Sound. I knew it had the USB port because I had opened the Hilt when I first received it to examine it.. I just never tried it out until last night... and it flawlessly on my little PC I keep to the side for work and media.

OBS Launcher 2.45 worked great, there are so many Fonts out there I am not sure what I will try and load next.. was possibly hoping for some suggestions. I also did not know how many different sounds you could load for Motion/Impact as well as Power On/Off, Idle, etc. I like to stay simple.. but I am interested in maybe what folks would recommend.

My Dominix came with Lite Sound, I love it.. It's loud just like the Sentinel. Unfortunately, did not see a USB port unless I missed it. Either way I think my Sentinel is the most fun Saber I have at the moment and hope to tweak it up nice :)

Congrats on the Sentinel with premium Obsidian sound.  It really depends on what you like as far as fonts are concerned. Quite a bit of us even purchased fonts from the likes of SaberFont.com but I like the Rey from TLJ sound font. You can find it here: http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=11414.msg638210#msg638210 (http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=11414.msg638210#msg638210)

Premium sound is great to have, especially the ability to import custom fonts. Welcome to the world of custom sound fonts.

Lite sound:

The Obsidian Lite Soundboard still uses the same speaker and still provides a loud and awesome sound experience with your Ultrasaber. You still get multiple clash (impact) sounds, multiple motion (woosh, woosh) sounds, a power up sound, a power down sound, a boot sound, an idle hum, and a lockup sound. So there is nothing lacking in that department. The default Obsidian soundfont comes pre-installed on your saber in its entirety.

However, by opting for the Lite version of the Obsidian soundboard you do lose the USB port on your saber and do not have the option to change your soundfont or adjust your hardware parameters.
You also lose the option to have multiple soundfonts installed on your saber at one time.

Ultrasabers always uses good speakers. In fact, some of the speakers Ultrasabers uses in the Obsidian setups are the same ones I use in my builds. The Butcher I got the other day and the build I did last night with my Initiate LE V4 have identical speakers. They're very loud speakers. I've heard people rave over bass speakers, so I used one in a build a while back. It's not any louder than a regular speaker. It's just a deeper sound. Ultrasabers' pommels also help with loudness, especially the longer ones. They create a resonance chamber that enhances the sound.

The only speakers that are loud are made by a third party and I’m sure you what I’m talking about.  Can you PM me the seller on Amazon that you buy your speakers from?

I was playing around with a few different Fonts yesterday, I wound up loading the Classic on for now. I tried a few, some I just didn't like.

I am a little curious about the Motion/Impact Threshold & Times. Do folks generally mess with those settings much? I always liked how the default settings were.. I don't believe I've changed anything regarding those.

I found a couple Idle (hums) I like as well as Lockups. I know you can load more than 1 since if you hit the button 1-2-3x etc it will give you a different Idle sound. I guess that you can customize and pick the sounds you want so you generally do not have to stick all to one Font (borrow a sound from another Font..). As long as it falls under the 6mb.

I was also not sure if my board is capable of the Defaultv4 Fonts I found on the forum (or site I forget)... I loaded the Ancient Saber and really disliked it, I tried the EP I and think I tried EP VI and I am not sure if I accidentally lowered the volume in the US Launcher but I kept hearing a "popping" noise... you know that crackle sound you may hear from an old audio file or .mp3 you may hear from your audio speakers once in awhile.. which is why I loaded the Classic back on.

Still trying to learn, I love the classic/default sounds.. I've seen/heard some crazy stuff on here I love (such as the Metallica Font)... I am not sure I would ever use that one specifically lol but it's pretty rad.

I may try a few others today. I always get worried taking out the speaker/board, but getting the hang of it and always want to be safe. I was also wondering after you load your new Font is it typical that you have to take out a battery for a few seconds then pop it back in, I noticed the saber would not power back on unless I did so.. kind of like a "hard boot" I guess, but was wondering if that was normal.
