Title: Best Blade for Sunrider's Destiny
Post by: Dark_Lord on December 05, 2018, 07:13:06 PM
I know I've asked this question before, but I cannot find the older posts.

I am planning to purchase a saber as Christmas to myself.  I am eyeing the Initiate v5 with the Sunrider's Destiny LED.  What is THE BEST blade to get for this color if i want to do any dueling?  UE heavy-grade or standard heavy-grad

I like the UE-HG, 32" for an Initiate V4/V5...

Here's what it looks like on an Apprentice LE:

I think the UEMG looks best with the blue and green colored sabers and SRD.

personally I like the standard HG blades best. I'm not sure why. I just like them better.

I think SRD can look sharp and work with both blade types - MGHG for an OT looking blade and UEHG for PT looking blade. That's how I see it, from a certain point of view  ;)

In terms of color aesthetics, I think SRD looks good in both/any blade.  Now that US doesn't glue the blade film, my usual wrinkle warning for heavy dueling is not applicable.  However being a heavy dueler myself, it is much easier and less noticeable to sand out the scuff marks from an UEHG blade without changing the original look much.  You can always expect to get scuff marks anytime you heavy duel and if you sand them out of a regular HG blade, it will change the look of the blade completely to be frosty looking that is no longer transparent.  Which ends up looking similar to an UE blade just not as white (more silveryish).  I do keep one sanded HG blade on a weathered hilt I have because it does compliment the worn look.  However if you don't mind scuffs on your blade or plan to switch out blades when dueling vs when displaying then this may not be an issue for you.
