Title: Help/Opinions
Post by: BatMike90 on January 31, 2019, 07:35:59 PM
Hello everyone on the saber forum.  I don't have a lot of friends so I figured I would come to the closest thing I have to friends and that is all of you.  ;D

I don't play a lot of video games but I am looking to change that.

So I have to ask, PS4 or XBox One S?

I have always had a Playstation but I want an XBox so I can play SW: KOTOR.

Thoughts/Opinions are welcome.

I have a PS3 and a PS4. However, i asked the very same question to see which people preferred. Check out their answers here.

Personally I prefer Playstation as the console specific games are better. Plus I also use it as an entertainment centre for watching dvds/blu-ray and watching youtube/netflix/amazon prime/bbc iplayer on my tv rather than on a tiny screened device.

We're gamers in my household and have 2 Xbox Ones, 1 Xbox One Elite and 2 Xbox One Xs which are the two current consoles that live in our bedroom along with a PS4 and a Nintendo Switch and a Nintendo WIIu.

We prefer the Xbox One X since Xbox live is much more secure and due to having to pay for a monthly or yearly subscription, you won't see as many trolls as you would in the PSN.  Sure, most people would argue that PS has more exclusives but keep in mind that most won't play those exclusives. Furthermore, Microsoft bought 5 studios last year so they will begin to spit out more console exclusives moving forward.  All the games that I want are found on both systems.  XBox has backwards compatibility along with cross platform gaming and multiplayer meaning that if you buy a game on Xbox live, you can not only play it on the Xbox but also on a pc or phone and tablet if applicable.  The XBox One S or X can play Xbox 360 games.

Also, PSN accounts tend to get hacked quite often than Sony wants to admit while Xbox Live servers are protected by Microsoft's servers and systems along with backup servers so they have security redundancy whereas Sony's network, does not.

Don't get me wrong, when I play God of War and Spider-Man or if the wife plays Kingdom Hearts 3, they're on the PS4. We love our One Xs due to use gaming 25 to 30 hours a week on multiplayer 99% of the time.  We're hardcore gamers and our favorite system that fits our gaming habits is the Xbox One X.

Thank you, Darth Knox, I skimmed through and I found it to be quite enlightening

.

I thank you for your response, Infiniti01!  I think the only exclusive I would want for the PS4 is Spider-Man.
I don't want to play Minecraft or Call of Duty either.
I would play mostly 1 player off-line. I hear that SW: KOTOR is on the Xbox store as their exculisive. I have never played KOTOR and wanted to play it.
Should I just get an OG Xbox and KOTOR or should I just get an XBox One with a digitial copy?

I will also add, it depends on what kind of gamer you are. if you're more the casual gamer like myself who never plays anything or interacts with other gamers online, then I don't think it matters which you go for. I'm like my gaming old skool so rarely download from the network. In fact, I think the only things I've downloaded were a couple DLCs for Mass Effect 2 and 3 and playing as Ellie to find out her backstory in The Last of Us. Other than that I still buy my discs (used from CeX or Game as I flat out refuse to pay more than £25 for a game, I don't care how good it is. But that's just me).

You’re welcome, BatMike. The One S is more than enough since you’re a casual gamer, I recommend digital copies which is what we buy so they can always be downloaded to your system. Plus, digital copies don’t get scratched over time from use

My discs have never ever gotten scratched. But then again, I don't throw tantrums, which may explain why  ::) ;D

Haha. Try living with a 5 year old but it’s the wife’s games that he got to. I’ve akready bought games digitally by that point

Yeah yeah. A likely story!  :P

I have a friend who is a hardcore gamer who cannot understand why I still buy discs. I like having them lined up on my shelf alongside my dvds and bluray collection, just above my vinyl collection. Because that's what being a collector is all about: physical stuff (like Scourge at the beginning of Ragnarok).

I agree with Knox. My son has burnt up 2 Xboxes and I still have my original PS1 and controller that still work. I mostly play my PS2 star wars games.  ;D

I agree with Knox.
That's because you are a very wise, noble and intelligent individual.

Some good advice here, my 2 cents owing a Ps4 and Xbox is if you're just looking to play casually and not fussed about multiplayer then either are good (if you wanted multiplayer than as Infinit suggests Xbox is the way to go most of the time).  After that its just about the games you like - most big releases are across both platforms nowadays anyway, but for back catalogue if you want Kotor go for Xbox.

The exclusives on PS4 are great and the reason i got one much like Knox mentioned, but unless Uncharted/God of War/Last of Us are your type of game there isn't much else to separate them and as a fairly casual gamer you could probably live without them.

The other option is if you have a PC simply get Kotor off of Steam you can get it pretty cheap during the sales and it should run very well on most any pc built after 2010.

Another point i would go with digital copies of everything now, the sales on Xbox/PS4/Steam are pretty regular and you can get solid games like Tomb Raider, Assassins Creed (from a few years ago) for $20-$25 or less and no worry about clutter of disks - having said that totally respect Knox and others who like a physical collection instead and you can get a lot of great titles second had really really cheap (i don't think I've bought a new physical game for 10 years).

Alright. Thank you everyone for your opinions and for Darth Knox, who shared that other thread! Point Incoming, Mr. Knox!

I made my decision. I am going Playstation 4.

Get the PS4, play KOTOR on PC. More content for it that way anyway, and the second game you can't get the restored content on Xbox

I was also going to recommend a PS4, but since you've already decided, I guess I don't need too. :D

I am an extremely casual gamer. And I found out I suck at Battlefront II....

I've yet to play it myself. What kind of games to you like? 1st person/3rd person shooter? Action adventure puzzler (like Uncharted). Dystopian future survival (The Last of Us). Beat em ups. Racing. Sports.

Well I like a good mixture. I play to be entertained.

I only have Battlefront II for my newly acquired PS4.

I play on getting Batman: Arkham Knight, South Park: Fractured But Whole and Madden '19. Maybe WWE 19 because I am a casual wrestling fan.

If you haven't already played them I recommend getting the other Batman Arkham game before playing Arkham Knight. And hey are available in a bundle for PS4. You can (and should) avoid Arkham Origins though. Was made by a different company/team while Arkham Knight was in development. Nowhere near the high standard of the other games in the series.

I have Battlefront II but really no one to play with so I don't really play it.  Arkham Knight is awesome and I still play it but I do agree with Knox, you should play the first two if you've never played the series before since it's a continued story line

I have played Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, story mode only. I have enjoyed them a lot, looking forward to Arkham Knight. I have also been playing South Park: The Fractured But Whole and it is really funny!

I somehow missed this conversation. Oops. :-[

I think you made a good decision going with the PS4, especially if you plan to use it as a Blu-Ray player. One feature that can't be denied is that the PS4 will remember where you are in Blu-Ray discs that support that, but the XBOX One S won't. I have both, and I use both for gaming but my PS4 exclusively for playing Blu-Ray discs.

The Arkham games are sweet. The first two are absolutely amazing, I've played them both through the story. Origins is cool too, but not available on modern consoles. That's the only one I haven't played all the way through. I enjoyed Knight, but I feel it was a bit lacking in the boss fight area. But, that's just me. It's still a good game with a decent story and fantastic graphics and the best version of Gotham City we've seen in a game to date. Also, be prepared for the Batmobile in Arkham Knight. Learn it. Know it. Love it. Otherwise, you won't enjoy the game.

Batmike, if you haven't already, I'd recommend playing the campaign on BFII. It is pretty fun and gets you acquainted with the gameplay a bit.

I have started playing the campaign, video games sure are different now. In other words, I suck. lol.

It takes some getting used to for sure. Keep at it, you'll get the hang of it.
