Title: Swapping a single LED for a tri-CREE
Post by: Maestro Jones on March 14, 2019, 01:08:00 AM
If I want to swap out a single LED (AS) for a tri-CREE LED (BR) do I need to add anything else to get the maximum brightness?  This would be for a stunt saber with the standard setup (4 AAAA batteries).  Do I need a buckpuck or resistors, or can I just swap them?

You could use a buck puck if you want to, that will drive the LED more efficiently than a resistor. That would maximize the brightness. Though, it's not necessary just for the LED swap. The resistor that came in the saber will work fine with the Tri LED.

What SFD said. A Buckpuck is more efficient but the resistor that comes with the LED will work

Thanks.  I have the LED already, but I just wanted to know if there was anything else I needed before I do the swap.

Need? No. If you've got the LED, it's just a straight swap. Are there other types of upgrades you can do? Sure, but that's entirely up to you. :)
