I've never played a Star Wars game, but from what I know, the cinematics are usually better than the actual game. This does look good though and might be enough to get me to fork out some cash.

Nope. I'm a casual gamer remember. And the Star Wars games just never appealed to me.

Just watched the panel for this, and it looks amazing. They showed the trailer at the beginning of the panel, and I couldn't figure out who the Jedi was. I recognized the face and the voice, but I couldn't place him. And then the introduced him. Cameron Monaghan is a super good actor, and I think he will do a great job in this game.

I don't know what else he has been in, but he played Joker in the Gotham tv series (though technically not Joker, because they couldn't use that word for him). But he is probably the best actor in the series.

I prefer games like Uncharted series, Assassin's Creed franchise, Tomb Raider rebooted games etc. Plus the Arkham games. I may give this one a go, once I've seen some gameplay footage and reviews.

As an extreme casual gamer myself, this game is on my short to get list.
The only Sta Wars games I have ever played were Battlefront, Battlefront II and EA Battefront II. I got 3/4 of the way through Force Unleashed 1 before I just stopped playing.

I consider myself a casual gamer yet I have played far more SW games than he listed. I think casual is more of a personal definition though. If there is an actual one I'd be glad to hear it

"A casual gamer is a player who enjoys any video game without investing significant time to it, playing it spontaneously, irregularly, or infrequently. The term casual may also be used as a derogative noun, to describe a player who is not fully committed to playing a video game at a high level."

For instance, I have a friend who insists of completing every game to 100% and get ALL the trophies. Personally, I don't care if I don't get 100% on every level of any game I play.

To me, a casual gamer is someone who plays a game to kill time, think Solitaire, with no goal to finish a game or get real in depth with the community while taking their time and having no commitment or time frame on completing the game.  Casual gamers don't play for very long and will play "enough" to suit their needs.

This is what Wikipedia says:

Casual gamer: The term casual gamer is often used for gamers who primarily play casual games, but can also refer to gamers who play less frequently than other gamers.[18] Casual gamers may play games designed for ease of gameplay, or play more involved games in short sessions, or at a slower pace than hardcore gamers.[5] The types of game that casual gamers play vary, and they are less likely to own a dedicated video game console.[19][20] Notable examples of casual games include The Sims and Nintendogs.[21] Casual gamer demographics vary greatly from those of other video gamers, as the typical casual gamer is older and more predominantly female.[22] "Fitness gamer"s, who play motion-based exercise games, are also seen as casual gamers.[23]

Core gamer: A core or mid-core gamer is a player with a wider range of interests than a casual gamer and is more likely to enthusiastically play different types of games,[24] but without the amount of time spent and sense of competition of a hardcore gamer. The mid-core gamer enjoys games but may not finish every game they buy, doesn't have time for long MMO quests,[25] and is a target consumer.[26] Nintendo president Satoru Iwata stated that they designed the Wii U to cater to core gamers who are in between the casual and hardcore categories.[27] A number of theories have been presented regarding the rise in popularity of mid-core games. James Hursthouse, the founder of Roadhouse Interactive, credits the evolution of devices towards tablets and touch-screen interfaces, whereas Jon Radoff of Disruptor Beam compares the emergence of mid-core games to similar increases in media sophistication that have occurred in media such as television.[28]

Hardcore gamer: Ernest Adams and Scott Kim have proposed classification metrics to distinguish "hardcore gamers" from casual gamers,[29] emphasizing action, competition, complexity, gaming communities, and staying abreast of developments in hardware and software. Others have attempted to draw the distinction based primarily on which platforms a gamer prefers,[30] or to decry the entire concept of delineating casual from hardcore as divisive and vague.[31]

Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamer

I'm the hardcore gamer who stays on top of developments for hardware, software, and studios.  I also play over 25 hours a week on games and have teams that the wife and I love to play with.  We all chat and work together to take out the enemy so playing with random people isn't our fortay unless everyone is busy. I also buy all of my electronics centered around gaming, from TV, to stand, chair, etc.  We tend to be dedicated to games, storylines, multiplayer modes, challenges, etc. and work hard to achieve our goals, rewards, etc. We tend to be perfectionists so to speak in our games and although not everyone wants to achieve everything in a game, we all tend to beat the game and dedicate our time in doing so.  Hardcore gamers have different values and goals as well.  For example, in Final Fantasy or Assassin's Creed, my wife wants to rush through the entire game and then come back and play the sidequests so she'll beat the game before I do. I, on the other hand, like to play the side quests because to me, it's part of the mission so I'll have better gear and weapons than she does when I beat my game.

Our gaming set up in our room.

According to Wiki, you are a casual gamer. As you've mentioned, you're a spontaneous gamer, that's not the traits of a hardcore gamer.  For Star Wars games, you may be a hardcore gamer there but for games themselves, you're casual

According to Quantic Foundry, a marketing research company that researches gaming motivation:

Hardcore gamers are most different from Casual gamers in terms of Competition (duels, matches, leaderboard rankings), Challenge (practice, skill improvement, high difficulty), and Excitement (fast-paced, thrills, surprises)—they are looking for fast-paced, skill-based matches against other players. Casual gamers, on the other hand, are looking for calm, non-adversarial games that are easy to learn and play.

Hmm  I guess I would be a core gamer.  I like story heavy games and don't care for playing with others.  Don't have anyone to play with anyhow.  I tend to play only on the weekends.  But very few games catch my eye.  I usually wind up back in Skyrim (with a ton of mods)  I enjoyed GTA 5 until it got populated with hackers and foul mouth 10 year olds.  I also don't worry about achievements unless they unlock something.  But, I still play games that are far from "calm".  Unless I decide to relax and build things in Minecraft.

I disagree wholeheartedly with this definition. What makes me as casual gamer is more the frequency I play and not the kind of games I play. All the games I've played on PS3 and PS4 and violent and adversarial. I wouldn't say they are hard to learn hoe to play, mainly because if you have played one RPG action adventure style game, you understand the basics of game mechanics and controls. Once you understand the controller set-up, bring on the stealth or attack combos.

I'm casual as I will go months without playing any games. But then I'll sit down every day for a few weeks and replay the entire Mass Effect trilogy from the beginning (just as an example).

Also, in terms of difficulty level, I always start on normal and then depending on the game, after a few replays I will.increase it up a level. Eventually I may put it on insanity level (biggest achievement, completing The Last of Us on highest level without dying once, despite the lack of ammunition).

I disagree with that too. To me, casual gamers on those that play a game at a slow rate, meaning that they're not in a hurry or rush to beat the game and they can care less if they achieved all the rewards within the game. They also don't really care if they even beat the game while some do and can play all types of genres

Oh, I care if i finish a game. But, just whenever. No rush. And there are some trophies and achievements i care about, but I really don't mind if I don't get everything or if they're not all platinum.

I'm a casual gamer by necessity, not choice. If I had the time, I would be more than a casual gamer (though not a Hard Core). I didn't read any of those definitions, but I play games only when I have time too, (which is pretty much non-existent this semester) though I would love to play more often.

I'm willing to pre-order Fallen Order...but the price is quite heavy and no info on system requirements yet :-\ Definitely looks like this could become the best Star Wars game since the cancelled "1313"....hopefully we get a glimpse at gameplay and actual graphics soon.

Not as easy for me, unfortunately...but I think I will pre-order as well - when I know the PC requirements. I don't want to buy it and then notice that my rig isn't good enough :P It's from 2017, so it shouldn't be much of a problem, but who knows...

I just hope it isn't like SWTOR where playing on a controller is physically impossible without superpowers

I think it's more suitable for controllers than SWTOR...judging from the information about combat system and resemblance to other series like Metroid - which is obviously a controller-based game :D

Would be great...then I could create a similar Macro set for my Roccat gaming mouse. Performing pretty well in BF2, although the trigger points are a bit imprecise :-\ You need to hit it in the right angle to trigger a function or ability. But it has 12+ (24+ with EasyShift) buttons for almost any ability in BF2...and that's what I needed.

Thanks guys.  I'm both a console and PC gamer and I do go all out for my mouse so that it takes a lot of the functions away from the keyboard so that I can just use it to move and jump.  It's a pretty neat mouse, it comes with a software so that you can program the buttons for whatever it is that you need for games.  I even programmed it for use in Blender and AutoCAD which is neat

Don't remember that. But like when he falls short, and used the Force to pull down the thing so he can grab it. I like that it shows Force use on the fly instead of "I have to concentrate."

Might be from a different clip, but in the gameplay reveal trailer from yesterday theres a scene where he freezes a stormtrooper as he shoot a la Kylo, force-grabs the trooper, pulls him in front of his own shot then unfreezes the blaster bolt.

Hi All,

I watched the recent footage and I liked most of it. The only "negative" was the Parkour style wall running, for some reason it reminded me of the games Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed. Mind you it will be some time before I get to play the game anyway as I don't have a console or PC.

Once I know the specs, I'll decide if I pre-order. I saw the recent recommended specs of F1 2019, and instantly knew that I don't meet them.

I like playing games at max settings, but can't afford new hardware if the specs require it...

Rig is 3 years old:

Ryzen 5 1600 six-core
16 GB RAM
GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
2x 500 GB SSD (1 system SSD and 1 for Origin/Steam/SWTOR)
Gigabyte AB-350 Gaming Mainboard
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

If you look at it, you would have to.  Just like a soldier who would react with their weapons or fist, a Jedi and Sith would have done the same with their Force Powers

It plays a lot like the heroes battle in EA Battlefront II. The droid works just like the one in the BFII campaign. If you have controller hints enabled, it tells you what button combo to use at critical moments. If your controller can do sliding/diagonal movement while jumping, you'll be able to play this easily.

I purchased every single LucasArts Star Wars game since 1994. PLayed SW:G when they shut down the servers. I'm re-visiting Star Wars Force Unleashed (got in on the free deal EA had earlier and got all their SW games).

Thanks Chalion. That’s pretty much what I was hoping for with the controls. Did you get a chance to play it or is this just what you think (and I personally hope) will happen

EA had a free trial for Subscribers that another trailer touches on. You got to play the title char with the resistance to hit some sort of base. The graphics weren't great, but on par with the Alpha/Beta for BF2 & Anthem. Pretty much the same game engine for all 3.

My take: pretty graphics doesn't make a game, it just makes it better. If the storyline or gameplay are bad, making it look great won't help. Heck, I had played SWTOR for 7-1/2 years. JFO the gameplay works for me, the premise to me had been long awaited and making a pre-order was pre-ordained. Of course, this isn't beta yet (soon) so things may change.

Campaign was another big plus in my eyes. I don't have to wait for others to play and I can take it at my own pace. Win-win. I just wonder at what easter-eggs/achievements the game will have and will it lock in for online account access to keep the records online like BF2/battlefield campaigns do?

Ok, watching this thinking, "I'd hate to be the guy assigned to detail that walker after the mission."  :P Like the notion of AT-AT on AT-AT action, but a bit underwhelmed that a heavy assault vehicle has that hard a time with a simple cargo ship. A bit of a let down, but no surprise that they just have to throw in multiple movie tie-ins. The movement puzzles seem very PoP-esque. Nice use of the saber for light. The saber combat is very reminiscent of TFU, so yay for that. Flame troopers usually blow up after getting carved. Very much liking the use of Force speed, and the way the mechanic is programmed. I have some misgivings about how a single reflected blaster shot can kill, but multiple saber strikes don't. :-\ All in all, I am intrigued.

Hello all !

Im what some people like to call "an hardcore gamer". Gaming since im 5, and still gaming at 32 now......And for what i can tell it'll be a pretty decent game, hopefully the best "Jedi oriented" game since the Jedi outcast/academy series (early 2000's old, and still the best game for saber duel, Battlefront duels looks so poor compared to those games ).

It'll apparently be a mix off Dark soul for the fighting part (Each action cost stamina, Mashing buttons is barely rewarding. But it add depht in the gameplay and forces you to stay focus. Good point for immersion.) but with freakin jedi moves. It takes a bit of the "Zelda/Metroid" series for the progression through levels (As you obtain new items/abilities, you'll be able to unlock new areas in previous levels.), wich is good for the longevity of the game. Then the were clearly influenced by the Uncharted game series (The way the player interact with the environment, how you climb, run, etc...) known to be the best in the genre...

So keep your finger crossed, it could be a really cool experience !!

Minimum Requirements
OS: Win 7/8/10 (64-bit)
CPU: AMD FX-6100 or Intel i3-3220
RAM: 8 GB
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX or AMD Radeon HD 7750
DirectX: 11
Free space: 55 GB

Recommended Requirements
OS: Win 7/8/10 (64-bit)

Quite hungry, that game...don't know if I order, my rig lacks the right CPU, Graphics and RAM...

I might just skip this generation of consoles at this point, but do you have a specific reason for having a PS4 rather than an Xbox One?
I feel like the PS4 has better exclusives. Thoughts?

I meet the minimum specs at least...maybe I'll try it and see which settings work and which don't. I rather want games at max settings, but if it doesn't work, well, I can't change it ;)

UPDATE: The recommended RAM has been reduced to 16 GB. Another recommende spec that I meet after OS, disk space and Direct X...still lacking CPU and Graphics (currently Ryzen 5 1600 and GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB), though.

Depends what you didnt like about Dark Souls.

Both have similar feelings of difficulty, however the reasons are different. Both are leagues faster paced, with Bloodborne leaning heavily onto Cosmic/Lovecraftian horror. Beasts, Old Ones, and a lot of shoulder capes. One thing I love about bloodborne is once you find your niche youll most likely continue using the same weapon for the rest of your playtime. Each weapon is very different and all are given incredible love and attention.

Sekiro is an odd game for the Soulsborne crowd. It has little to no customization of gear. You can change your quickbar items, shinobi tool, and techniques. No armor or weapon customization really. The game is a lot of fun and has a few different endings, however it feels like theres less to explore and discover than other titles. Sekiro trimmed all the fat from a Souls game, so the end experience is very focused and tight, but only good for a couple playthroughs, if that sort of thing concerns you.

Theyre both 9/10 games for me but for wildly different reasons. Sekiro makes me feel like a deadly swordsman dancing blades with my opponents, where Bloodborne makes me feel like a lone wolf survivor in a world not for the likes of ordinary men.

Dark Souls requires a lot of trial and error to master it..I don't have a whole lot of time to play anymore.  Maybe an hour a week if I'm lucky.  I played for a while and got no where..especially when my character would just literally stop responding to controls and allow Undead assassins to cross what in real life would be 20 feet and attack me.  I love the Lore of Dark Souls...just not the games.

Yea, with Dark Souls I never got further than the Lower Undead Burg.  I got sufficient at killing the Taurus demon and I would use the Dragon to farm souls and level up enough to use the Lightening Spear...which was OP as hell it seemed.  But by that time and all the BS I lost interest in trying to get any further.  I have so many games though I bought on steam and haven't played.  I still need to play Nioh.

Well PS5 is coming out next year, so you can either wait and get that, or wait and get a cheap PS4.
I don't know that there is really any one thing that makes me like PlayStation over XBox, I guess it is kind of just a bit of everything in general. The real clincher being that the people I would be playing with (and do) all have PS4s.

Hi Taegin, I'm sorry man, I didn't want to do damage to your credit card, I just thought you were already so close to purchasing anyway I posted the picture to get you more excited for the game.

The top hilt is actually the promo poster itself. It looks as if there are two of my 3D models but I only placed one model in the image, the bottom saber is actually a reflection! (I placed a reflective panel underneath the saber model so it didn't look as if it was just floating). So you only need to buy one not two  ;)

Thanks for the kind comment on my model and a point is on the way to you.

TMAI. I'm FINALLY in a position to buy a new game console soon (I'm thinking PS4 Pro). As many games as I've wanted to play from the current gen, this game and Death Stranding are the main reasons I need a new console. I'm also not dead broke and in debt for the first time in several years, so that helps. :)

Does anyone have any advice for buying a current gen system and a TV that will take full advantage of the newer features (like HDR)?
I would like to pair my new console with a 65" 4K HDR TV. I used to be the one to ask, but I'm lost at this point. What do I need to look for?

PS4 Pro for the console, that or Xbox One X. As for TV im not as good. Hardrive depends on how many games you plan on getting. Only a few go with the 1TB, if you plan on serious gaming with it go for a 2TB

Congrats. Pre-download is today, already. About 54 GB.

That's it. I'm pre-ordering this game today. I'll have to get a PS4 to play it on next month.

A double saber?  That's unexpected.

I wasn't expecting that either

I find your lack of vision most disturbing (and you being a Sith  ;D ) I modeled this staff a few months back when the first game trailer dropped.

And I did post it here on the forum on October the third:

I find your lack of sarcasm font disturbing.

Yall coming down hard on me for this, huh? lmao

I thought this was going to be one of those linear games with no fun.  I've got very little faith in anything with EA's logo on it.  But it looks like I'm wrong!  I really had no idea a staff was a possibility.

Hi Samhain, I was only having a bit of a Jedi Jest! No harm meant. It was just when the box cover art and first trailer came out we all saw the damaged pommel end of the saber and said "I wonder if that was a staff originally...it looks too long to be a standard hilt". I just modeled it to beat everyone else to do it first!

I would never poke fun or "attack" you...you're skills with a saber are way above mine  ;D

It's all good, I was just poking fun at myself.

I've stayed out if the loop with the game mostly.  I haven't had much faith in EA, as they can sometimes release things of dubious quality or full of microtransactions.  Not to mention the experience I had with trying to make origin work, and how they limited the number of installs I was alllowed on a title.  Needless to say I'm not a fan.

Initially I didn't think this game was going to be my cup of tea.  I favor RPGs and games with lots to explore or a larger world to take in or character customization.  I expected this game to be something more like TFU, which isn't a bad thing in the least.  It's just not my kind of game.  But looking at it now I was totally off the mark.  There looks to be a lot of world building, explorable environments and even the ability to revisit locations as you want.  That's important to me, I like to choose my own pace.  It certainly seems like there's some kind of skill tree progression, and that saber staff being a option means my Cal may not be your Cal.  Know what I mean?

It went from a "I'll get it around Christmas or my birthday" to something I'm looking at getting day one or at least during a Black Friday sale.

Btw when I say no fun, that's more of a subjective thing.  I lose interest in a title fast if it's a big slash fest and doesn't draw me in.

Just started my journey, and although it only runs at 9 FPS (even with lowest graphics settings), it's one of the best Star Wars games I ever played. Finished the very first part, but it already took about 20-30 minutes - for a tutorial.

Very much like the start of the game and the playstyle is much different than i'm used to, but it is fun.

Stopping point as you will pick it up later (after holidays I assume) or stopping point...forever?
