Title: New Tsuba pictures
Post by: KaiserSosay on April 18, 2019, 09:49:00 PM
So today I got  the new metal tsuba adapter from T.C.S.S.  A lot of people asked about my other 3D printed tsubas, so I  thought pictures would be appreciated.  Here you go!

It looks pretty good on the dark war glaive with a dark catalyst emitter.  I however, will be putting it on the  Manticore I just bought to enter the raffle. The metal tsuba only cost $10 more then the 3D printed ones. So I'm getting these instead from now on. I might order one in a black finish and see how that looks.
I will post more pictures when the Manticore  arrives.

I hope everyone is having a great day!

Thanks I like it too. I cant wait to see it on the Manticore! It is going to look so much better with the silver of the hilt blending the tsuba in. I hope it looks as good as I envision it.

Wow, that actually looks pretty good on there, better than I expected it to.  ;D
Hum, if one could get the emitter end of the Aeon V3 or Initiate V3 threaded, this would look good on it I think. Just a thought.

That looks awesome! Will be ordering a Dark Catalyst soon, as well a few bits and pieces from TCSS, including the Tsuba Adapter, for a project I'll start on when I get back to my hometown (I'm moving back to Adelaide from the Gold Coast here in Australia, at the end of the week).
Looking forward to having the time and money to get back into customising sabers - have been away too long from the forum!

I have always likes tsubas. It completes the flow on a lot of hilts.

Looks great, can’t wait to get my hands on one (or three!). I can never figure out what is MHS compatible at TCSS... makes my brain hurt. MHS v1 or v2? And in follow-up, does the other version (v1 or v2) fit any other US like the V2s? Are there any parts that will fit US v2 sabers? Thanks in advance.

V1 is the "standard" MHS.    I'm not sure what the deal is with V2.   I wish they had a better explanation on the site.  :-/

Thank you Karmack, that is helpful! And agreed, yet I have to be careful what I wish for. If there were even basic explanation/organization, I fear I would spend a small fortune.

Today I received  my new Manticore.  The tsuba  looks amazing on it. Like they are meant to go together.  This is now my most favorite saber in my collection.  The windows on the emitter throw light into the tsuba and make for a really  interesting look.  Here are some pictures.

Thank you for the point! You should definitely do this to your Manticore.  It is literally my favorite saber now. I have only had it two days and it wasn't even a competition.  My diamond guardian and dark war glaive are going to start collecting dusty.

I picked up the tsuba from T.C.S.S. ( the custom saber shop). Just google and it should pop up.
For ultrasabers you want the version one parts. V1 tsuba "adaptor".

KS, I agree your Manticore looks amazing with the Tsuba, I was looking for something to spice up my Dark Arbiter and since TCSS is having a rare 20% off May4 special, I pulled the trigger on this less than a minute after I saw your thread!  I rarely make impulse buys but your pics and the sale were too hard to resist.  Thanks for sharing this great idea.  ;) point!

They are pretty bad about advertising.  What I did was I joined their forum and subscribed to their thread called "Official Store News", that is where they post sales and new inventory so I get email notifications that way.  Just from their main website, you wouldn't know if there was a sale or not.  Don't know why they do it like this.

I'm lookat at the non-CE Manticore. That is the one with the black body.  I wonder if this tsuba will match the plating/anodizing on the Manticore or look too very different and shiny?

So I like the Manticore and the tsuba. The Manticore emitter is a little big for my tastes though.  So when TCSS offered a 3.5 instead of the 3 inch tsuba I have, I thought that might help.  Here are some comparison photos.

One on top of the other...

The larger size helped but I still don't like the look. It is to tall for my liking.

The weight of the emitter also throws off the balance of the blade. I really don't like that, so back to the drawing board.
My next idea was simple. Find a shorter emitter somewhere, anywhere.  I didn't like the look of, or height of any emitters out there and was at a loss.
Until I realized an old pummel i have might work.  The most basic of sound pummels that Ultrasabers sells is what I used.  The basic pummel with the big hole in the bottom. I did not use it as a pummel because I was worried about damage to the speaker.  Now I found a great use for it. The hole is big enough to hold a blade  and the threads match. All I needed to do was drill a blade retention screw hole (or three). I used a 5/32 drill bit and put the blade retention screws in place to tap the holes. It worked great. I like the look of it and the balance is nearly perfect.

Here is the 3inch tsuba.

Here is the 3.5inch tsuba.

The look and feel are much closer to what I wanted from the beginning. The whole saber is much lighter and easier to wield. Couldn't be happier with it! I have also ordered the metal tsuba that the Saber Legion offers.  Their tsuba attaches to the blade like the older 3D printed tsubas I have.  I am hoping it will work well with my dark war glaive. That is still a beloved saber too.  I'll post more pictures when I get that in hand.
Anyone with a tsubas of their own, feel free to add your pictures too.  I would love to see all the options that are out there.

I hope everyone is doing well and had a great weekend!

Looking good there, Kaiser.  I saw the new 3.5" tsuba myself and will buy at least one of each.  Thank you for the comparison and trying out the basic sound pommel with it.

It is not magnetic so I'm guessing aluminum.  The weight is 2.63oz.
This is the one I ordered from the Saber Legion website. It works great for my war glaive.  I like the emitter but the screw on tsuba adapter from TCSS looked bad on it. This tsuba is perfect for it. It is a good option if you want a tsuba but don't want to change your saber around.

I'll post my version soon, at least the empty hilt as I am still waiting on the blue lit switch from TCSS to complete the install.

That is kinda weird but not sure, I'll check mine when I get home and let you know as I have been putting it between the emitter and hilt like Kaiser's pic below.  Not sure if I actually tried to pass the blade completely through or not.  Did you get the MHSv1 or MHSv2 tsuba?

Title: Re: New Tsuba pictures
Post by: KaiserSosay on June 04, 2019, 06:16:45 PM
I got two from TCSS. One of the tsubas fit perfectly.  The other one was  too tight. I just used sand paper on the tight one. A couple passes around the inside and it fit perfectly too. I would give that a try. Just go lightly. Aluminum sands away really quick. A little goes a long way and a snug fit is better then a loose fit.

I'm using this with the Manticore between the hilt and emitter.  But most of the LEDs modules from Ultrasabers are not actually locked down. The blade is what holds the module in place in the hilts I have.  So if the blades doesn't completely pass through the tsuba you can here the LED clanging around. This can't be good for the LED being so loose.

TCCS said to sand the blades.  Which is best, sanding the blades a bit or tsuba?

I sanded the blade, but since aluminum is a pretty soft metal I guess you could do it either way. Just make sure if you do the emitter that you leave it smooth on the inside.

I like to switch blade lengths pretty frequently.  So sanding the blade didn't work for me. To much work and then those blades would only be used in that one saber. I sanded the inside of the tsuba so any and all blades work fine.
If you sand the blade, the depth the blade goes into the emitter and tsuba will be deeper then other emitters. Meaning the sanded area of the blade will be exposed on any other emitters. If you are only using one blade for the hilt and don't intend to change it out, then sand the blade. Sanding the blade would take seconds.
Sanding the inside of the tsuba might take a few moments longer. Any blade will work though, once the tsuba is sanded. It really is up to your personal preference.  I vote for sand the tsuba!

I just checked my Tsuba and none of my blades pass through it.  If it becomes an issue I will definitely sand the Tsuba, there is no way I am sanding my nice blades in particular.  TCSS should really fix on their end for the future instead of telling people to sand their blades IMO.  Good pointing this issue out Ken. +1

Kaiser, here is the final version I have decided on heavily influenced by this thread, thank you and your son for the great ideas!
