Title: Pre-saber training (using a wooden katana and board)
Post by: Darth Nivek on November 22, 2019, 06:52:41 AM
I want to post a 60 sec. video of my techniques for review, how would I go about doing that in the thread? I'm having trouble figuring it out, thanks in advance

Click the 'Insert Hyperlink'-button, it's the third one from the left, bottom row, the one with the earth-globe-and-thingie.
Then copy-paste the youtubelink in between the URL code.

remove the 's' from https so it'll embed in the forum thread.

Hit the preview button to see if it works before posting.

Awesome thanks man. Also keep in mind, I'm still kind of an amateur. Don't be afraid too offer some constructive criticism, I can take it.

remove the 's' from https so it'll embed in the forum thread.

Additionally you have to use the YouTube.com-URL as the youtu.be-URLs won't work either…

If you have a decent knife you can whittle a handle on the plank o wood.

I was considering having my friend John make another wooden katana out of it. He made that katana

You actually have to use the full desktop link and remove the s from https:// at the beginning of the link

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zt1Y1F69yZU&feature=youtu.be (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zt1Y1F69yZU&feature=youtu.be)

If it's a short link which is the mobile link, removing the s won't embed the video either

All of your videos are now embedded by yours truly ;)

If you look at the bottom of your videos, you'll see my trademark

get some leather gloves off the amazon to save you and your friend's fingers.

That's a good cheap pair, and they go well with a sith outfit!

My friends started using thick gloves for protection, although I use thin gloves that offer little protection but excellent grip! Also getting my new ultrasaber Friday gonna do another review!

Some feedback:

if you don't have a saber yet, hit the hardware store and buy a length of 1" external diameter PVC for the blade and 1" internal PVC for the hilt.  Under $10 and you can make several. (note, I see you got your sabers).

When fighting one handed, watch you off hand.  Your first frame of the first video has got your hand like a T-rex just sitting there waiting to get chopped off.  Your later outdoor video is better for this (just judging by the still I see on the page here.   Some solutions:
rest it on your hip or raise it behind you like Erol Flynn.

Bring your arm against your chest, hand over your sternum, keep your fingers and thumb together pointing up in classic kung fu block.  You're almost doing this in the later video.

This keeps your arm from looking useless or flailing around and gets you thinking about what it's doing during combat/demo.

Also, consider LaCrosse gloves.  They've got padding on the backs, where you're likely to take some whacks.

Hey thanks man, I've actually gotten a lot of practice in and have about five sabers now lol (got 7, gave away 2) thanks for all the pointers!
