Title: Lithium Battery Options
Post by: Darth Aethelmearc on April 04, 2021, 01:39:32 AM
There are a lot of LC 14500 lithium batteries out there.  From 3.2v to 3.9v, from 300mAh to 2500 (or more?).  Many different chemistry options.

Are there any that need to be specifically avoided?  Any that are insufficient to do the job?

I got massively lucky with a mystery box a few years back and got an Emerald/Obsidian lithium setup and now my batteries can't keep the blade on for more than 10 minutes and usually less.  So it's time to get new ones.  Especially since the kids are getting sabers too, soon.

Thoughts?

Anything listing much more than 900 mAh is probably false as they just don't have the volume for much more. Anything less than 800 is probably insufficient for the task. Make sure whatever you choose has onboard protection as US sabers do not.

What about the voltage?   Does it matter 3.2 or 3.9 or anything in between?

They should be 3.7v each. More, and you'll likely damage your saber. Less, and you'll run into a lot of glitches because the power is unsufficient then.
Stick to those that came with the saber by default, they're a very good option.

In addition to what you’ve been told, it’s also important to get protected cells.  The ones that came with the saber are protected.
