Title: Writer's Block "/
Post by: The_Night on February 17, 2011, 08:39:55 AM
I'm working on a full length screen play right now, but it's killin me to get into the mode lately. I'm about 33 pages into it, and i'm aiming for around 100. Any suggestions as to how to overcome the writer's block hump? (i would post what i've so far but idk if 1. i can post that much at once or not and 2. don't know if i want to post it before it's done)

100 pages really is a toil my friend, what I would do given the situation,
divide the pages evenly. So that it would be 20 pages in 5 groups, label
each group by order of events you have in mind.

For example,

1st group - My characters introductions

2nd group - Their lives

3rd group - The challenge

4th group - Their response

5th group - The conclusion/result

This is what I would be doing, but you can think of another list
to fit your theme or idea.

I find the best way to relieve writers block is to switch over to a clean page and... write another story. Something totally different, or completely parrallel. Whatever just starts to come to you. Sort of a one shot daydream story. Whatever you can think up inspired by whatever hits you. it could be a paragraph, it could be 10 pages. It doesn't matter. When you hit the end of that, go back to your initial project. Maybe reread the last page or two of what you wrote, and dive into it again. Usually helps me!

thanks manroon, i'll have to try that.

and it would've been smart to divide it like that, unfortunately i think i'm a bit too far into it to go back and do that. it actually started off as a 5 page script for a school project. lol

Manroon's idea is better, refreshing is always a good option for a tired writer.  ;D

5 page, eh? Then expand that five pages, divide them to see if you can connect the puzzle.
And by that I mean fill in the gaps, and you'll see that five pages will turn to 10, 20, 30 etc.

Give Manroon's idea a try, I'd be doing it to if I were you.
