Title: HISTORY OF ULTRA SABERS (picture gallery of past sabers)
Post by: Big Boss on March 20, 2011, 04:06:36 AM
Man this thread took me forever! :D Original Author was MKXIII of the FX-Saber forums, but he hasn't been online for several years! I have updated  it since it was very outdated and found new links/pics and saved them to my photobucket because most of the links were no longer working. Plus i have added newer sabers to the list. Also be aware most of the sabers i have listed are not in alphabetical/dated order and the dates listed are not exact.

Its nice to see UltraSabers past and present sabers so we can see how far they've come from opening up way back in 2005; enjoy! :)

Belicose and Overlord... we shall miss you

Half the fun in reading these is trying to find out which sabers I get with Grab Bags, last round was a malice, in Consular Green.  She has taken a beating, but still survives!

very good use of the archives i'am glad people are finding my thread useful for tracking down their mystery grab bag sabers, i too wish the overlord was brought back it was such a classy looking saber many thought of it as a saber that a force sensitive imperial officer would carry.

no problem it's actually pretty fun hunting around for pictures kind of like a scavenger hunt  :D i will be updating the current saber section in the first post maybe  instead of just posting a picture i'll just post a link to someones review of the saber since a lot of our forum members have posted fantastic reviews on their saber's and good pictures as well so i'll pick what i see as best reviews to portray the sabers in this section.

According to the moderation log, it was stickied by two different mods, which actually un-sticks the first sticky.   :D

I'm actually going to move this to the Ultra Sabers Gallery.  I think it will be a great headliner thread for that forum.   :)

If you don't mind, I would like to do some work on the thread from time to time and do things like host the images on the Saber Forum server and make some of the links into thumbnails.  Would that be ok?

I'll try to add general dates for sabers like the month or year they were released, but it will be iffy since some sabers came out before i even knew about ultrasabers :P  ???

well if ultra were to offer any of these sabers again they would be remade like the dominx so they would be up to par with the newer models. I would love to see the PVC Dark apprentice and sentinel remade in metal, powder coated black with silver grooves and illuminated switches to boot.  :)

Those smaller lit blades in a figure eight would look pretty friggin' sweet in Artic Blue, and with a matching Magna guard font (probably possible), I think it would be the highlight of my collection.

Back in the day Ultra offered a deal on the other forum for his new line of stunt sabers. I don't remeber the name now though, but it was a single tube PVC saber. I odered one at his discount introductery price. I got an email later saying that they were sold out but that I still had a saber coming. Ultra had upgraded my order and sent me (I believe) the Rifter instead (but this was well before 2009 though, it was even before 2005), it was one of the first metal stunts. I was shocked that he had done this without asking for more money. Even after selling off all of my FX sabers I still have that saber to this day.

Thanks again Ultra!

I still have my Omen (the second US I've ever owned)... it was a replacement for an earlier saber (also PVC) whose wiring died on me. The poor thing is out of commission at the moment (probably just some battery acid reeking havoc on the battery pack), but I want to get it working again.

It's always sad to see one of your sabers ruined... the Omen is a great saber too.

Luckily it should be fine, all you need is a new battery pack.  They sell the old AA ones on the site (I would assume this is the one you have).  Just make sure you get the right one based on your color (some of them run on 2 AA batteries, some on 3).

Title: Re: History of Ultra Sabers
Post by: Arcadius on January 12, 2012, 02:42:09 PM
It looks as if my Omen will be fine once I clean off the battery contacts (it uses three AA's if I'm remembering correctly). I just need to obtain something that can do the job without damaging the contact.

I'll know for sure in a few days - my best friend (and master - the one who gave me both PVC sabers) is coming around for some dueling practice and to assist me with some of the customization of my Phantom. He'll have a better idea if the battery pack is busted, or just needs cleaning. Regardless, I intend to make sure it's brought back to working status - it is my first true apprentice's saber, complete with my Sith name written on it.

Even if it can't be fixed, I'll still keep the hilt as it is as a reminder.

Alas, said friend came around a few weeks ago, and we realized that something went wrong with the retention screw as well - the stupid thing is stuck to deep down to get the blade back in. Unless we can figure a way to bump in back out, it looks like its' destiny is to be a show-piece from now on.

I have been here a long while and I have seen only one Nihilus and about three Imperial knight hilts and a few imperial knight pommels come up for sale , This was throughout a span of about 2-4yrs ago? on another lightsaber forum.  They all have sold for a pretty penny and then some  buyers decked them out with a CF and polish/chrome goodness over a span of a few years.  :P *drool*  The Nihilus, Imperial knight I would probably rank as the rarest ultrasabers. From what I remember there was only four Nihilus sabers made? and I think about 8-15 Imperial knights made? I'am not entirely sure since these sabers were offered just before i got into this hobby and i had to go off rumors and what other saber members have told me and I had seen. These sabers were really some of the first custom sabers that ultra offered next to the overlord and bane that used to offered in yearly runs of about less than 20?, not mass produced and ready to ship as you see in the store today. All i can say is wait, I'am sure ultra will re-offer these sabers and mass produce them like the overlord and the bane.

here are some pics of that custom nihilus i was talking about, If i find pics of the custom imperial knight i will post them as well though i fear they have been deleted.

well judging from the response to my post, the imperial knight is definitely going to need to come back.  and i understand they may not want to because it is very similar to the standard issue, but the machine work and pommel and protruding thumb screw really make the IK stand out and unique.  i do hope they bring it back.

Rifter - Minmatar Frigate
Kestrel - Caldari Frigate
Manticore - Caldari Bomber
Vagabond - Minmatar HAC
Tempest - Minmatar Battleship

Dont worry, they are still there, in fact, they just released a new saber on may 4th. The graflex, based on luke/anakin's saber from ep 3-5

Yes! They really should! I would buy it!

So, all the sabers are "retired?"
If I wanted to get one.... How and where? Is it even possible to get one anymore? :(

It's possible to find some of the older models on eBay, from time to time.

Yeah, but it costs a heck of a lot..... :( Right?

That really depends. Sometimes people who are getting out of the hobby will sell them cheap just to get rid of them. Doesn't usually cost more than a new one from Ultra does, though. At least from what I've seen...

There is actually a local Ohio metal band called Legacy. Hope they bring back that saber. :P I'd get it in the future and post it on Legacy's Facebook page.

Wow, I didn't realize they had been making them for so long. They definitely have improved their quality dramatically over the years. Awesome seeing that they did a Tonfa in the past, here's to hoping they do it again because I don't want to make my own (I'm lazy)

Gracious, some of these are impressive. Especially the v1 Bellicose! I only discovered Ultrasabers since after all these were discontinued, but some of those are really awesome!

As far as all the comments about a Count Dooku-style lightsaber go, I bet making a curved metal hilt is a lot harder than PVC :-(

Concerning the Grievous Staff, I think it needs some extra electronics to simulate the electrostaff look. Probably flickering and strobing, or a chain of blue or purple LEDs going wave-flicker.

Big Boss, you are welcome to include the content from my old thread as well, although many links are now broken. I'll be polishing mine up at some point and copying to my new forums:

Nope. Never actually been to the website you linked until now. I based the beginnings of this thread off the one made by MKXIII of the FX-Saber forums back in  2009. Though he left the community a year after and the majority of all the links/pictures he had  in the thread  died and it was very incomplete. I then surf the web for a few days and found all the pictures/videos you now see in this current thread and saved them to my photobucket account and my computer so the links and pics would not be lost over time. I'll be sure to check your old thread too to see if there are any good pics that could be added to this thread. Also you are welcomed to copy and paste the thread I made here to your new forums.  :)

Nope. Never actually been to the website you linked until now.

That's because it was for a local lightsaber choregraphy club which is also now dead and merged with one of the clubs in my signature. Totally understandable. Please, no one register for that forum, they should be locked but probably aren't. :D

Yes, I made some adjustments to my own thread based on his, but mine had been started before his :) Last time I checked a few months ago, believe it or not, the thread was still online (if you had the old link to it)

Thanks! Most of the pics are still hosted on Ultrasabers' website. And some of the links to that other forum in my thread still work, oddly enough. Also, if you have a dead link to Ultrasabers' website (like a photo), don't forget to try the same link in Archive.org to see if they have a copy :)

Correct me if I am wrong, and I probably am, but by looking at all of the names of the old sabers I am going to assume that someone at ultrasabers is/was an EVE Online player.

A good third of the sabers here share similar names to ships from that universe, namely Amarr and Caldari ships :p

This makes me happy

It inspired me to make my own PVC electrostaff.  I have most of the parts, just need to order a couple of War Glaive claws.  It's just too hot outside to work on it in my shop.   :(

I sure will, if it gets done.  I'm kind of slow about these things, especially when it's 100 degrees outside.  My shop does not have AC.

Back in my day all FOUR (yea, there were only 4) hilts were made from PVC and painted. There were two types of blades, Heavy and regular. And sound? It came from your mouth.

History of Ultrasabers is one of glory and joy.

Oh wait, am I back on this thing again? (I never really leave)

I finally made it through to this thread and was amazed by the work put in by Moderator Big Boss.  Searching and finding all the pics and youtube videos of past saber designs was a daunting task and he did an amazing job.

Its awesome to see how the company has grown and being able to see the evolvion of the sabers makes me want to design a few myself.  I was wondering if anyone else noticed the similarities of #24 - The Ephesian to the new saber shown in the Episode 7 trailer.

If you havent noticed it you need to check it out, it looks pretty dang close.  I think someone needs to get some royalties on that saber design.

I know I quoted his whole thread, but it really is pretty epic, so we should all go back through it and see how things have progressed.  Im so sad that it took me so long to buy my 1st saber.  I would have loved to have one or more of these classic designs.

Title: Re: HISTORY OF ULTRA SABERS (picture gallery of past sabers)
Post by: Copperhamster on March 19, 2015, 09:45:51 PM
I've owned a couple of Aggressors (green and orange) for a long time, though I recently gave them to a friend's kids, and an original black SS with a Silver blade. I transferred the SS's parts into an Aeon V2 not long ago, but I still have that big heavy black hilt.
Both Aggressors had d-rings installed on the end caps, and I had brass thumbscrews in place of the standard blade screws to make removing the blade quick.
The orange Aggressor I had weathered with Miracle grow after protecting random parts with bits of tape, which gave it this vivid, somewhat blotchy blue green weathered look aside the copper, which I let dull out nicely as well, and I had given the grip more traction with some leather textured red-brown colored strips of duct tape, after which I sealed it with a spray of matte sealant. I'll try to see if I can get a picture of it (I never thought to and it's now 200 miles away).

My Green bladed Aggressor had some ridged rubber grips running the length under the ring with the switch, cut from an old doormat, glued on then secured by a 4-5 O-rings in the ridges. Before I did that I polished it up till you could see your reflection in it and immediately used a very high gloss sealant. It was shiny.

I took the risk of cooking my SS and the only modification I made was to the batteries; It came with a 3x AA battery holder, at the time I had a ready supply so I replaced it with a holder that held 3x 1/2AA batteries (for 9 volts). I did do the math and added a bit more resistance in series with the led but it still was quite a bit brighter and looked very good with the color disks in it. To facilitate quick changing I had a thumb screw for the blade, and I had replaced the endcap plug with something a bit easier to pull out and kept the extra color disks in the hilt. (iirc it was a sanded down 'not child proof' medicine bottle cap.

After I lost my ready supply of 1/2 AA's I put the old AA holder back in place. (A friend worked at a place where they used them heavily and replaced them after they ate past their 'fresh' voltage and fell into their nominal 3 V range. They lasted a long time in my saber still.)

Galaxy: Milky Way
Planet: Earth

Greetings to you all.

I stumbled my way to this thread and am also flabbergasted by Moderator Big Boss' sheer effort. :o  I cannot imagine the time and dedication spent scouting the plethora of YouTube videos and photos of former designs. If I had the resources, I would consider designing them as well, so kudos to those who do this for a living (or hobby).

Technology has really progressed to the point where I'm pleased with my decision to return the Ultimate FX version and pull the proverbial trigger on my 1st UltraSaber.

I look forward to meditating on many of your posts here and perhaps will see some of you at The Rock Czars' future appearances.

I would like to see a Legacy V3 made and returned, I like the design of that one, still a Rattlesnake return, and a Vegabond return. I think these could all be re-made =] Any votes for these 3? Would make great light side lightsaber additons even though the Vegabond could go either way too though

Looking through the list of PVC sabers I think I own one of the sabers not listed. I thought it was an Initiate, but it appears that it's not. Anyone got anything on this? Takes a 1" blade, rubber O-rings all around, pommel was a piece of plastic that was forced into a threaded PVC tube (a piece recently broke off that cap), and slanted emitter. Bought in 2006, I remember it's that year because my father bought it for me and my brother in 6th grade with 36" blades. Brother hit me in the forehead so hard with his, I had a shiner that lasted three weeks that made it into the school yearbook.

Still hoping to see some of these return like the Rattlesnake and Redemption sabers. I'd be all over a Redemption. But I guess that's what the Electrum Wind possibly is just with more decorations?

I think I know how I feel like I've seen them before. A few years ago I was looking into Lightsabers, and I think I came across this site. I then promptly stopped, then when I bought my first saber, the site had completely changed. I know recall doing that at least 3 years ago.

Someone add this, please? I dont recall the name of it. it just says "S3 V4." http://imgur.com/ByymF7N There were only something like 10-25 of them made according to the listing page. I got it cause windows and to be a part of US history. I kinda want that emitter though.

Right? This is why I suggested that they dust off some old designs for "new" simple sabers.

Man I found this old thread buried in here while searching for something. Too bad most of the links to the old sabers are dead but some still work. The early version of the bellicose is neat. I’d be down for them bringing that back. Maybe with a few tweaks like mhs and thumb screws. It’s also cool to see where ultra started and where they are now.

Hmmm... I wonder if we asked Ultra real nice, if he could work his magicks, and restore this thread.

I thought I remembered Ultra mentioning something about doing that a while back. Then I found this: http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=919.msg14676#msg14676 (http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=919.msg14676#msg14676)

So, pretty please Ultra?

Sorry, when I said "restore" I meant redo the pics to get them off of Photobucket, and on to a site doesn't charge.

Oh yeah that would be cool. I doubt he can though. It was someone else that set up the thread wasn’t it? Still I bet he has pictures of all the old sabers. Maybe he could make a thread with them.
