Hi guys,
Just ordered my first two sabers. A Prophecy V3 and a Crimson Reaper for my wife, both with Obsidian 3.0 using buckpucks. When we placed the order, we missed the pull down box for getting the nicer switches installed. So I ordered a 16mm short momentary switch from TCSS for each of us. Gold plated for mine and nickel plated for hers, and bezels for them as well. There are no led's on these switches. I just don't want to keep the plastic black ones. My question is, since there is no led on the new switches, do I still need to worry about putting a resistor in as well? On the US site they list the standard switch as being guarded, the TCSS switches I bought don't say anything about being guarded. I was hoping I could just pop out the plastic switch, clip the wires, make the hole bigger, put the bezel down, solder the wires onto the new switch, heat shrink it if needed, push-fit it in and be done. I've seen a few other post's around, but they have all involved upgrading to momentary switches that light up. Any info would be a great help guys thanks.

No led, so no resistor. You have the process all right, though you may not need the bevels if they are the short switches.

One thing to be aware of is that the AV switches have four wires connect to them rather than just two like the guarded switches have. Two wires connect as expected, but two other wires (with a resistor) connect directly to the battery wires to power the LED. The tricky (trickier) part is connecting the other two wires to power the LED. Otherwise, if you don't add the power for the LEDs, your switch will work but just not light up.

Thanks guys, I just wanted to make sure. There is no LED in the switches I bought, so no extra wires needed.

You'll need to drill the switch holes a bit wider as the AV switches are wider then the standard guarded switch.

okay slightly off topic for a miute, latching vs momentary switchs.. Momentary = press the switch and hold it down to keep LED on, release to turn off automatically, latching press once for on, press again for off?

Yes. Latching switches 'click' on and off; momentaries only work if pressed.
