How about this for a thought...a more aggressive type of creature...not a pit fighter type of thing...and nothing gigantic...more small, interesting, and potentially lethal.

This is not really where I wanted the game to go at all...but surely there would be a niche for this sort of aggressive or grumpy type of creature.

Again, not looking for great white shark + elephant + grizzly bear...those sort of things bore me to death.

The image that got me thinking along these lines was the little cockfighter critter from District 9

It was small, the size of a chicken at best, and could be deadly to another small creature...just a horror show to look at but really interesting, at least to me.

So that is the challenge...something small, grumpy, and at least looks dangerous.

My cautious critter entry!

Forest Hellion

Octopus

Mouse Monkey

Bat

I am thinking the size of a small cat...winged...monkey face...octo head...bat ears...octo tentacles follow the wing bone and extend beyond the tips...monkey arms/legs...

A little ambush predator, reeking havoc on small critters, leaping out of hiding or dropping down from above, clutching, smothering,  and then scampering away...getting as high as possible, leaping out and gliding to other trees.

Cute!

Hey as a certified Dendrobatidae breeder, I can tell you that only a couple of all the various species are actually truly poisonous in levels to affect humans...it really comes down to them being WC or F1 and being either Dendrobatidae Phyllobates terribilis or Dendrobatidae Phyllobates bicolor...which basically are golden yellow to yellow with tiny flecks of black...oh wait, we are talking about fantasy animal combos...never mind...Cheesy

That is a cute combo in my mind!

cuteness was the aim, so when you pick it up and hug it it pricks you with its spines and KILLS YOU! MUAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *cough cough HACK weeeeeeeze* I'm still okay.

It would be cuter of it did not kill you but rather gave you the oogies...making the air taste like blue, your feet feel like pillows filled with jello, and your head seems to get three times bigger...mmmkay?

OK, a slightly esoteric and mystic combination from me. The animal I would summon would have the Size and power of a Eurasian Brown Bear; plus the bear's ability to conserve its strength and last through harsh conditions by limiting its bodily exertions. The territorial nature of the bear would make this creature a fierce defender of "its patch", and woe betide any who would trespass and disturb it!

The Body and general appearance (except for size) of the creature would be that of the White Wolf. Speed, keen senses, cunning, pathfinder ability and sheer stamina would be gifted here, as would the wolf's shrieking howl and territorial marking. The creature would definitely have steel blue eyes!

The final component would be the Wings (to scale of course) of the Raven! This would not only gift the creature the power of flight, but it would get the Raven's opportunistic intellect, intelligence, and long sight, as well as the more mystical attributes associated to birds of the type.

The creature would be known as the "Great Ravenwulf"

It would be a companion and kindred spirit.
