So... I kinda forgot to review my Guardian I bought back in August... which is weird 'cause it's by far my favorite saber that I own. It even has the most features out of all my sabers too... anywho, let's get down to reviewing!
SPOILER ALERT - I love this saber
First off, this saber hilt is just beautiful. Of all the sabers I own, this hilt design just stands above them in terms of detail and looks. The emitter, the pommel, the grips, and even the thumbscrews just grab your attention. I will say that this hilt is fairly big - there's no denying it - but that doesn't mean it can't be dueled with. Any saber can be handled well with practice, and this one doesn't take very long to fall in love with. Believe me when I say that I have stubby fingers. Seriously, proportionally they look
huge, but they're
tiny. Even so, this saber is ridiculously fun to use both for spins and for intense duels. It really has the kind of weight that gives it the feeling of a true sword. The only thing that really takes some getting adjusted to is the pommel hitting your arm a lot. But even until you manage to learn to avoid it... it's too pretty and shiny to be mad at.
Anyways... as far as the options I got... here they be:
- Obsidian V4 Sound
- Four-Channel (RGBA) Emerald Driver
- Recharge Port with Fast Charger
- Red Illuminated Silver AV Switch (always on)
- Standard Finish (the Nickel-Plated one was out of stock
)
- Heavy Grade Blade (but honestly what does this matter? you just change them out anyway
)
I gotta say... the V4 Soundboard.... is just fantastic... Reasons - uh... like all of them... like, you can literally have MULTIPLE SOUND FONTS..... like, at once.... I don't know how that's not worth only 10 dollars more.... so there...
As far as the RGBA Emerald Driver, it's really nice to have the addition of Amber over White if you're looking to make some nicer yellows and oranges. (as i literally just order another saber with RGBW [shrug]) I've managed to make some oranges that almost have the feeling of a sword made of fire. And amber, when blended correctly, can really give a far nicer flash on clash effect, depending on the base color. It gives it more realism that you've just combined two sticks of pure plasma <-- that literally sounds so stupid but,
YOU THINK OF SOMETHING BETTER.
(Good job, you already did...) Actually, as far as the four channel emerald drivers go, they are completely worth the money you put into it. Not just for the ability to change the blade color and the flash on clash... but to be able to have your saber pulse alongside the beautiful idle hum of a saber.... just feels even more real.
Recharge ports.... are apparently the best thing ever and I feel stupid for not getting one on my Archon 2.1... seriously... sometimes I feel upset that I have to take the batteries out of that fantastic saber... and I seriously shouldn't feel that way... Now, I will agree, yes, that, depending on the hilt a recharge port is being installed on, it can totally take away from the look of the saber... but, eh, not much. Like, not much at all. Maybe NOT AT ALL. It's just: take saber.... plug saber... waitsaber... standsaber... go eat some foodsaber... come backsaber... and.... THEREsaber... it's donesaber, now GO. USE. SABER! (<----- my very,
very sad attempts at humor)
The Red Illuminated Silver AV switch is nice. Same as I already had on my Archon. To be honest, if anything, THIS can be the option that takes away the look of the saber. I can't explain why, but it's so hard to completely see the beauty of a saber when your eyes are drawn to that big, bright circle of light, beautiful as it may be... Initially I had huge regrets over getting it, as this is one of my favorite hilt designs, but I will say that if you have that guilt feeling... just wait it off. I've actually come to love it a whole lot more. Do I wish that I went for a regular non-illuminated silver AV switch, maybe even a black one? Maybe... (sniff) maybe... but now I really have come to appreciate the look.
.....ALSO IF IT'S ALWAYS ON IT DRAINS YOUR BATTERIES FASTER (leaves)
(comes back)
I uh... got the standard finish... they were out... of the nickel-plated version.................. but, my Graflex CE comes in two days so it's okay
Here, have more pictures:
But again, overall, I love this hilt. It's fantastic to duel with, it looks gorgeous, and I can literally charge it like a phone (and faster, too!). So if you are a general fan of this hilt design, and you got the money to spend, I'd highly recommend going for the Ultrasabers Guardian!
