As a Jedi, I prefer Lightside points.

I was practicing with my friends saber the other day. I was using a staff, but i only had a single blade attached and i realized that having an elongated hilt would be an amazing advantage in combat and duels. The shear ability to extend/retract the length of your weapon at anytime during battle is an amazing ability. The ultra sabers guys should consider making staff length single saber hilts.

It's definitely cool.  One of our members here, Dirty Jersey, has done some really cool stuff with his Initiate staff - including using the non-bladed end to make a sort of crystal pommel.  It seems like the perfect length for a long-hilted saber too.

This is actually one of the things I love about my SI compared to my Prophecy! If you want, it's a great hilt with lots of length, and it affords you that ability (granted to a lesser degree than DJ's initiate staff) to change your reach in combat. I love that about that hilt!  Grin

those kinds of sabers are prominent in the Star Wars Legacy comics, most particularly Darth Nihl.

but if you read the comics and look at the panels closely theres other sith that use it.

When i see some panels i feel like Darth Nihl is channeling a GreatSword, sometimes it looks like he's holding a zanbato, or the one i especially feel, since he's sith, is wielding it like a scythe although it doesnt have that curve, his hand positions and movements just speak it.

I think a long hilt is great. A yari type deal though would be way too easy to get sliced. You can do some neat sliding parry riposte actions with a spear that vs. a lightsaber would leave you holding your... uhm. You know.

And if you want a really long hilt, couple a pair of Dominix together!

it's awesome that others like the extended length of the Phantom staff with only one blade.  I have been working on that for a bit now, about 5 days actually.  I've been carving up my original saber, dominix v2 LE in guardian blue, and I recently bought a Dominix v2 that I'll be turning (no pun intended) into an LE on a lather soon with toothpicks wrapped in 220 grit wet/dry sandpaper for the grooves.

I planned on taking pics of the whole thing, but my camera is missing it's weird battery charger, my gf's camera is in need of new batteries and an empty sd card, and my roomies camera is digital, but so old you can't see the pics until you plug them in to your 'puter... so I may just resort to my horrendous LG Envy 2 (2.0 MP) camera and email them to myself.  Lame, but it's what I've got to work with!

I like the crystal idea for the side you wont be using in the saberstaff, but I also like the plugs you can get with and without the metal disc in the center.  Now that i've added windows to one of my Dominixi (plural? lol) it's look real neat fired up while I wielded my great hilt bastard saber!

Okay, so I pulled a bit of a parlor trick on a friend with a Yari one time. I threw an overextended thrust at him to get him to step inside to my left and threw a spin at him from where he thought I was out of position and scored a hit on his hilt. False holes and feints where you make it appear that you made a huge mistake rule in monster hilt combat.
