I'm looking at the Phantom V2 (or possibly V3) to replace my MR Darth Maul lightsaber for dueling.  I have three main questions: what is the realized length of the 36in blade once it's installed in the Phantom V2; what is the total length of the Phantom V2 with 36in blades; and finally, how much does the Phantom V2 weigh with Heavy vs. Mid-grade blades?

I plan on using the saber for spins, and choreographed dueling.  I try to hit on the lighter side since it's choreographed, but at the speeds we move blades get bashed up a bit regardless; but I'm not wailing against a bo-staff, just other MR sabers.  I was planning on getting the heavy grade blade, but knowing how heavy my Darth Maul saber is, I wasn't sure how prudent a choice it is to put the extra weight on both blades.  I plan on using the saber for extensive dueling against MR/Hasbro sabers, so I don't want to blow through my opponent's saber with a blade that's too heavy, but I want my own saber to hold up practice after practice.  Do you recommend the heavy or the mid-grade blade for this kind of use?  And how heavy would the Phantom V2 be with the mid vs. heavy-grade blades?

Finally, I'm used to dueling and spinning with my MR Darth Maul saber.  I'm looking for the closest match I can get to this, so I was looking at either the 32in or 36in blades.  Most people seem to prefer the 32in, but since part of it is lost in the hilt, I wasn't sure it was going to be long enough (my Darth Maul is about 33-34in extending from the hilt).  How long does the 36in blade extend from the hilt?  Finally, how long is the coupled hilt end-to-end?

Thanks for answering my many questions, I'm new to the site but I've heard great things about Ultrasabers from my fellow 501st members; I just want to make sure I get the right saber for my purposes.

Not sure of the weight but I do know that having heavy grade blades do make a considerable difference in swinging power and is quite a bit heavier than midgrade. Midgrades are very durable and hold up to steady dueling. As far as length the Dominix V2 is 12 inches, the emitter depth is 2 inches.so a 32"blade will extend 30"when installed into the hilt with an overall of 42" from blade tip to pommel end. That's 1/2 of the saber staff . The Phantom V3 is 12 and 1/2 long and I think the emitter depth is still 2", however the hilt circumference is a bit wider than the V2 which would make is a close match to the Darth Mual MR your used to. I do have 32 " heavy grade ultra edge for my Phantom V2 . It's no too heavy so I think either blade type would serve you well.hope this helps and I'm certain other forum members will give you good info as well!

Thanks for the info, it's very helpful.  Since the hilt is about 2 inches longer than my Maul I think I'm going to go with the 32in blades.  Thanks specifically for mentioning the diameter difference on the v2 vs. v3, I had no idea there was one; that's good to know.

I do still wonder if I should get the mid-grade or the heavy grade (let alone the extra decision for ultra-edge or not).  People say the mid-grade is good for light to moderate dueling.  I'd classify the choreography I do as moderate, but my concern is that I practice this choreography several hours each week, so I'm concerned that it might not hold up to that amount of constant, albeit moderate, dueling.  The main reason I'm shying away from the heavy grade is because I don't want the saberstaff to be too heavy with TWO heavy grade blades.  What are your thoughts on which grade blade I should go for?  Also, are US hilts generally lighter than MR hilts?

I just gave a general feel between my MR Vader and my Dominix V2 LE with a 36" midgrade blade in , the Dominix is lighter than the MR, not by alot but it is noticably lighter. The Midgrades will serve you well i think , but the heavygrades would hold up better to loads of dueling. If you get heavygrade go with ultra edge. The regular heavy grade dulls the led color a bit and has a core look, while the ultra edge brings the color to the edges of the blade.

Nice pics, Vex! Haven't seen another Fire Orange blade in HeavyGrade UltraEdge. Deep doesn't recommend it, but I like the color. Can't wait to try it with a MidGrade in my Bellicose. Thanks also for discussing blade lengths, fellas. Vex, I give you dark side points. Smiley

91 inches, or 7'7" is what my Phantom measures, obviously 36" blades, Ultra Edge, Heavy Grade (UEHG) which are my personal preference due to even light distribution throughout (more movie-like for me), and it weighs almost exactly as much as a samurai sword in a scabbard weighs, so about 2.2 pounds.  Oh yeah, 1/2" off-center balance, so *near* perfect (close enough for me to be happy!) balance... it's a dream...

I'm modding the h3ll outta this one...  emitter windows, accent LED's in the works (already purchased, w/e), replacement LED Modules tuned to Dark Violet Amethyst for me by Ultrasabers, LED Module set screws (so they dont slide in the hilt anymore), thumbscrews as opposing set screws for blade retention (2 per blade, had a few "projectile" issues with just 1x thumbscrew), and something leather...

Saberstaff.  Singularly the reason I'm a Star Wars nerd.

I'm re-naming my Phantom v2 to "DeViAtion" in honor of her color when they are installed (must sort out resistor!)

Thanks for the great advice and info everyone: I just put an order in for a Phantom V3 LE with Guardian Blue Ultraedge Mid-Grade blades.  Hopefully it arrives in time for my performance next Sunday!
