Agreed. We were talking about just that in another thread where Rey went from being a scavenger one week, into a Force wielding Jedi like figure who bested Kylo and took out Snoke's guards while Kylo himself struggled.  There wasn't any training that she underwent while with Luke and the tid bit of her saber training was on her own with Luke watching from afar.  It took me a couple weeks to get to where I'm at wit spinning and that only came with the help of three different people.
Exactly. Look at Luke's struggles when he trained with Yoda in the swamp. He failed and didn't succeed immediately, which made it all the more satisfying when he was triumphant.

I do relate to Rey, woman to woman. Her character does have flaws, which you guys already mentioned.

No offence to Darth Tepes intended, but when straight, white, cis men say "Race, gender, and sexuality shouldn't matter" I call BS. Perhaps not to you, but you do't have to look far at all to find straight, white, cis male characters....and people do relate better to people just like them, even if subconsciously. I love that Hollywood is beginning to include more diverse leads. It's become a little easier to find female, non-white, and LGBTQ lead characters.

Point for being far more succinct in getting the point across than my attempt.

(Yeah, my genitals and skin haven't allowed me to look up to anyone with different skin and genitals. Gender identity can be fluid, but not understanding and empathy. It couldn't possibly be the influential people of society who are really to blame for turning everyone against each other while a lot of us haven't been able to find a way to keep understanding going, though we've tried. It's just that one group of cis white males, and everything they say in entirety is BS. Judge an entire group by the most obvious stereotypes, that's the best way. No offence intended, of course. No offense, either.) - Sarcasm intended.

Hi all.  I don't have any significant feelings or impressions about or towards the character of Rey at all period.  Just doesn't factor as a player of influence in my real time world.  The rest of this at times cryptic and convoluted conversation... I'm just not following the twists and turns at all... sarcasm not relevant.  Undecided

Rey is bae.

Though as a not fully functional white guy, who often feels more asexual than straight, assuming we are all the same isn't any better than any other form of discrimination  Tongue

Cis means you identify with your sex at birth. So you were born a male, and identify as such. Smiley

I like Rey, though I do acknowledge her flaws. I find the extreme hate a lot of Star Wars fans have for her to be a bit much. Like Anakin wasn't a huge Gary Stu? We've seen a lot of that in the films. Are there better females in the universe? Yes. Are there a plethora of strong leading women in the movies? Not really.

- Leia is amazing, but not the main lead and not a Jedi (in current canon anyway).
- Padme is a Queen and Senator who starts off pretty strong but is definitely not a strong female character, or even particularly interesting by RoTS imo. The animated series showed her a lot better, but again not a movie.
- Ahsoka, a great character but not in a movie (yet? Wink )
- Mara Jade, the Shans, etc all in media that might not be consumed by the average Star Wars fan but not mega fan.

I remember being a little girl and watching the original trilogy over and over, and then the prequels. I wanted to be a Jedi, and I loved Leia but she wasn't a Jedi. I'm willing to forgive a fair amount because I remember dressing up as a generic Jedi for three years in a row for Halloween and now a new generation of little girls can actually put a face that is like them, to a Jedi hero.
