1) Order the connecting USB cable when you order your saber. (MAYBE the ones you have lying around will transmit data, and maybe they will transmit only power. For the small price of this cable, be SURE that you have the right cable.) Download, read, and FOLLOW the instructions for the controller software. Everything matters, including whether you turn on the saber before or after you connect it to your computer.
1a) STRONGLY consider getting the recharge port. Any time you have your saber connected to your computer, it will need to be powered on, and if it dies (from low batteries) while it’s connected, you will lose everything stored on the saber.

1) Yes, get the cable just to be 100% sure you have the right one. It's a
mini USB port, and 95% of all the cables out there are micro USB and/or are incapable of transmitting data.
1a) When you get the saber, download the Obsidian launcher program from here:
http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=11988.0 and follow all of the directions. And just to be clear, the saber MUST be turned on BEFORE you connect it to your computer.
2 and 3) Actually, go here:
http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?board=36.0 , that entire sub-sub-forum is dedicated to sound fonts you can download. There's even two Kylo Ren ones on the first page right now. If you don't find one you like there, you can always post asking if someone has one, or can make you one.
