If you are new to saberplay Caine's DVD would be a great place to start.

In my case, in France, I'll have to recruit sparring partners, cause there are only a few Ultra Sabers users (I met one last year, but that's all...)
So, the DVD will be in my first pruchase, with 2 sabers (one for me, one for the sparring partner -^)

Also, right in the store, there is my staged combat tutorial #1, which is only $10.

I live in the bush in a place where hardly anyones heard of, its totally irrelevent since you already have a saber but when i wasmaller and i didnt have any swords I used to cut down small trees with various strikes and practise my combos that way

yeah.....but stay away from the expertvillage videos made by tres too (or h/e you spell his name....if tht is indeed his name). ive watched all his videos and the guy cant even preform noto properly.  noto being teh act of returning teh sword to its scabbard.....w/o looking.   heh.....he even talks about using teh scabbard itself as an offhand weapon.  im sorry.....but what is a .5k (1lb) magnolia wood shell going to do against a 1.2k katana?  plainly speaking....this guys an idiot.

You can perry just fine with a wooden saya, and if need be, you could use it as an offensive weapon. The thought was "I broke the saya, Oh well but I am still alive".  Although there were metal saya they became widely used by the Japanese Offices in WW2

talking about japanese swordsmanship is a tough relative thing, since styles developed fluidly, over decades.  its very interesting to research the various regional ideas and see how the weapon itself changed over time, curvature, length, modes of carry, etc. the lightsaber is interesting in that its lethal with any amount of pressure, and the edge alignment doesn't matter at all really.

If you're gonna get 2 sabers, you might wanna look into a saberstaff.  It's two sabers (you can still get different colors too) for essentially a lower price.

You can always use a tree or a punching bag as an opponent. Martial artists do it all the time.  Grin  (well, the punching bag more than trees though, lol)

trees are good too, Kinda like a Makiwara board without the flex.  OLD SCHOOL!!! Grin
