I am new to the saber community/forum.

It looks like ultrasabers runs a lot of cool promotions - deal of the day, raffles, sales, etc.

I had a few questions about these promos, if some of the forum elders could chime in on the following questions, I'd greatly appreciate it.

1. Does anyone know the general odds of winning a raffle?

2. Is there a "best time" to buy a saber? I.e. Are any of the promo events markedly better than others?

3. Beatles or Stones? ; )

Thanks!

1. Raffle odds vary depending on how many folks enter and how many prizes are up for grabs. I know that sounds obvious!

I'd say that that about a 1 in 3 chance of winning something in a raffle feels about right, but I'm not basing that on anything more than guesswork and gut feeling. The current raffle, for what it's worth, is lasting about twice as long as others held recently. That probably means more entrants, so a smaller chance of winning (not that I'm trying to scare people away from entering!)

2. 'Best' is a matter of taste. When US do sales they tend to mix things up. I believe the last raffle had substantial discounts on the Emerald driver, RGB option and flash of clash, so if you were going for a heavily loaded 'sabre, that could save you something like 60-70 dollars right there, and even more if a 'sabre you want is on deal of the day. On the other hand, I believe they've also done sales for a flat discount on everything - parts, stunt 'sabres, sound 'sabres... That can really make a difference too, especially if you were looking at, say, a stunt Apprentice staff and found that it had $20 or so off during the sale.

3. Beatles. Stones have some great songs, and probably my favourite of the two bands in Gimme Shelter, but the Beatles had the sense to quit while they were ahead and (looking back from 50 years on) their experiments were more varied and successful than the Stones. The Beatles also seemed to take things a bit less seriously, at least until the end when they were pretty much just cracking up too quickly to fix.

Hi and welcome to the forum.  I'll attempt to answer your questions and others can add on.

1)  It's like any lottery.  You will never know how many participants and the number of raffle tickets entered.  Many members have tried to figure the odds out, including when is the best purchase time such as at the start, middle or towards end of the raffle.  Some members do seem to have more luck on their side.  Other major winners are first time saber owners.  You have to participate with a sense of adventure and a what if... attitude of nothing lost if not a winner.  My understanding is that a computer program randomly draws the order number of the purchase ( raffle ticket ), and the forum name is then connected to identify the winner.

2)  There are many different promos and sales throughout the year including the ongoing changing DotD.  My favorite is the % off Foc, RGB and Emerald driver.  This spring I was able to save a considerable amount on a 15% off saber sale.  Although some promotions are the same, US does change them out even if just a little bit.  We never know for sure what sale will be next.  The free grab bag or Initiate with required purchase is a popular event.  May the Force ( 4th ) usually is a good sale.  This upcoming Raffle has the most amount of saber winners.

3)  That a tough one.  Saw Paul McCartney & Wings and The Rolling Stones live a few times.  Have to say that the Stones is the best touring band with U2 a close second.  For songs that impacted stages of my life, my vote is for The Beatles.

4)  Question for you.  Light or dark side forum appreciation points ?

Best of luck if you are entering this Raffle.  Cheesy

Thanks for the great answers and the warm welcome!

With all this in mind I can form a sound saber purchasing strategy. That raffle looks awful tempting.

Well, no sense me adding anything AcerTheGreat as you've already heard from two valued, seasoned and knowledgable forum members.

3) Beatles. They have always been there in the background of my life in music, and between the two they have the magic touch IMHO.

Point to you all for good questions and good answers Smiley

I usually buy during the raffles, I find them exciting.  Seeing your name up on that winner's list and getting that free "mystery" saber in the mail is fantastic!

Amen to that. I find I do most of my buying in the raffles as it gives that added bit of fun. I've purchased during sales a couple of times, but my ability to save up for a new 'sabre seems to coincide with US doing a raffle much more often than not Cheesy
