Hi guys,

I'm about to buy first dueling lightsaber (I may have found out the hard way that the last one wasn't up to the task lol), and I have been pointed towards Ultrasaber. Having done some research, I can see both good and bad reviews about Ultrasaber sabers, but am willing to give them a go and do my own reviews.

I'm not looking for something too pricey for my first Ultrasaber saber, and was thinking of going for a standard one with sound. Just wondering though, can you turn the sound off with the press of a button with the saber still on, as I will probably be doing a lot of filming work and therefore having the built in sound would be havoc with post-production sound-editing.

I'd like one with sound nonetheless as when not filming, who doesn't want a saber that goes "vzzzzzt"?

I am thinking of creating a back story for my cosplay Jedi character, so will find someway to weave buying my first basic saber from Ultrasabers into the story on my blog =)

Thanks in advance for help!

Well to answer your first question.....with the Obsidian sound board in an Ultra Saber, it comes default with I believe between five and seven different sound fonts (each with their own clashes, ignition, and hum sounds) including one that is a mute option. Using that will disable the sound but still allow you to use your beautifully lit saber. I personally love the sound on my Bellicose as it is loud and amazing. I doubt I will ever get a saber without sound.

As far as your research goes, it's true. You will find negative and positive opinions on the sabers. That being said, I've been nothing but pleased with my own purchase and it is a quality saber. Ultra Sabers is also easier to handle financially. I looked at multiple other companies including Parks sabers, Saberforge, Vader's Vault, etc. In my opinion, Ultra Sabers offers great quality at a great price...definitely some of the best bang for you buck.

Hope that answers your questions and if not, the community here is fantastic! Side note- I think it's cool about your back story with you Jedi character. You should post about it after you get a saber!

You need to pick the v4 board if you're setting sound, and I think (don't have one on hand to check) you can only adjust the sound when the 'sabre is switched off.

Hi Dradeus,

Thanks for the reply and the welcome. I'll double check regarding the sound to make sure, but will definitely look to get either a stunt one or one standard one with sound. I'm a bit boring in terms of colours so I don't really need the Emerald board. I am very much a blue saber boy!

I have realised I'm very boring with designs etc, as I really like the plainer looking hilts, so I can  quite happily weird one of the initiates of apprentice hilts. I don't even want any colouring on them - chrome looks nice!

I actually broke one of the sabers I was using at MCM this weekend gone in a duel, so will need to fit in some back story. Was planning to use some of the pictures from MCM to illustrate the back story.  Will definitely post up links on here and let you know if you're interested.

Thinking whether my Ultrasabers one should be an old one of mine I'm using (maybe from padawan days, hence initiate / apprentice hilt? ....or maybe the hilt of a fallen previous master? Hmmm).

Thanks for your reply @James Casey. Do you know if the v3 board has a mute option?

Not on the fly, no.  But v4 is just $10 more and you get mute and up to seven sound fonts that you can choose just by powering down and holding the saber's button for a couple of seconds.

I think v4 would be exactly what you are looking for.

Hey,  im a dueling enthusiast and am pleased with ultrasabers quality.   Make sure you order a heavygrade blade for heavy sparring durability.  Arctic blue is a good choice for a bright light blue and guardian blue is nice for a darker blue.   I also favor good handling over fancy looks when it comes to choice of hilt.  I strongly recommend the aeon over initiate and apprentice.   Aeon has great places to grip for either wielding with one or both hands.

While scuff marks and scratches will give blades some wear over prolonged use I have never heard of anyone breaking their heavygrade polycarbonate lightsaber blade and this has been true in my experience.   The material has some flex to it so it wont shatter on impact and wearing a helmet used in kendo called a "men" I had several friends test ultrasabers durability by hitting me on the top of my head with the saber as hard as they could and both me and the blade were just fine.  Great stuff!  I am rapidly becoming an ultrasaber kendo enthusiast.

Yup. Nothing but good stuff. My only saber with sound though is the Bellicose, wanted something kinda pretty Tongue I say go Sentinel V4 or Prophecy for a simple dueler with sound. Or Dominix V3/4 whichever one you'd like. Blue is a good color though Smiley

I was lucky and got a Dominix v4 LE for my first Grab Bag Saber. Lucky because I love it even though have got other Sabers since.

I don't think you can go too far wrong with either Aeon / Dominix or Sentinel / Dark Sentinel for your first Saber.
Longer than the equivalent Initiate/Apprentice which makes them perfect for either one/two handed wielding.

Of the two I love the vertical emitter windows and grip of Aeon / Dominix.
