Zerok Argorion: Episode I

A Thirst For Revenge

Zerok Argorion would have been breathless at the unmatched beauty of planet Tabora were he not about to avenge his master Jaag Delevorr.  He strode past luscious plants and incredibly unique wildlife towards the droid army base, with murder on his mind.
His master had been a truly exceptional man, whose skill with a lightsaber was unheard of and power in the force legendary. How he had been killed was a mystery to all, for even though he was asleep he should have been able to sense an enemy. He had done so before, many times. But the fact that he had been killed is what plagued Zerok’s mind with such ferocity it was like a cloud so dark and black no light even dared to try to shine through. Zerok had become obsessed with trying to find who had killed his master in his sleep. Travelling from planet to planet, questioning war veterans, slaves, shopkeepers, tracked down assassins who were untraceable, infiltrated enemy bases that were so heavily guarded no jedi before him had dared step foot on the grounds, and yet had found nothing that pointed to anyone. The search had consumed him, taking hours Zerok had once used to sleep or socialise until a shopkeeper told him he had done business with a hooded man who controlled a droid army base on Tabora and claimed he’d killed Jaag. Zerok knew he would make the man regret this more than anything he’d ever done.
He crouched behind a bush with long and sharp leaves and watched the two battle droids guarding a minor side entrance to the army base with absolute silence. Raising both arms with tense hands he crushed both of the droids’ heads simultaneously with the force, then stepped out of cover and rushed still somewhat crouched towards the door. The door was unlocked, as it was never used by anyone or thing except the guards, until now.
It was cold, and quiet inside the base, with a metal floor, walls and roof. Zerok stayed low as he moved towards the centre room with unsurpassed determination. He knew where he was going the whole time because as soon as the shopkeeper on Tatooine had told him about the base, he studied the schematics until he knew them forwards, backwards and inside out.
After walking through his 37th corridor, Zerok reached a door unlike most others on the base. It was a darker grey and had a more complex lock, it looked thicker, heavier. It took a fair few minutes for Zerok to use his light blue bladed saber to cut a circle big enough for him to climb through in the door. He knew those inside the door knew what was coming as soon as his saber penetrated the door, but he didn’t care. He knew they wouldn’t run and so wasn’t surprised to see a group of cowering technicians and a hooded figure facing his when he entered the large room via melting hole.
“You killed my master in his sleep.” Zerok said to the cloaked figure he knew was a Sith.
“Yes.” Came the reply.
“Then I’m here to kill you.”
Lord Starkoth
Zerok held his saber up in front of him, ready to fight. The hum of his blade was very quickly accompanied by the two blood red blades held in either hand of the Sith that had killed his master.
“I will waste no time for words.” Zerok stated just as he charged with both immense fierceness and unnatural agility. He felt his mysterious enemy match both the fierceness and agility when their blades clashed sending sparks in the air and making the sound of thick wire being hit by a hammer. Zerok span and slashed again, the Sith’s blade meeting it with strong defense. In fast paced action the two struck, span side stepped and sent in the occasional kick with a trail of bright light following the sabers as they swung with precision.
The Sith blocked Zerok’s saber with the one he held in his right hand and went to slice across Zerok’s mid-section forcing Zerok to summersault over him. Zerok landed a little awkwardly and his opponent took advantage of this by shoving him to the ground.
“You are well trained.” The Sith said, breathing hard and sweating a little from the fight.
“Who are you?” Zerok asked confused on how he’d been beaten when he was so determined.
“My name, is Lord Starkoth.” The Sith replied and Zerok’s eyes widened in more shock than he had ever felt. Lord Starkoth was Zerok’s master’s first pupil!
Back then, Starkoth wasn’t ‘Lord Starkoth,’ he was Javaga Starkoth. His master had told him he would be stronger than him some day, words never spoken to Zerok.
“You betrayed him!!!” Zerok screamed jumping up turning his saber on again.
“I did what needed to be done.” Starkoth replied and Zerok charged so suddenly and furiously Starkoth was knocked off of his feet. He hit the metal floor hard, and barely had time to turn his saber back on to defend himself against the ruthless onslaught Zerok was giving him.
He managed to stand up, still barely blocking the harsh blows coming his way with such speed, such anger. Their sabers clashed again and again, each time from a different angle with a different part of the body as a target. One of Zerok’s hits broke through the Sith’s defense and his arm came open, the muscle bleeding and burnt. Starkoth screamed as he fell and Zerok closed in, not giving him an inch.
Starkoth’s head was lightly touching the door Zerok had entered through. He brought his knees towards his chest as Zerok raised his saber about to give the final blow. But just as Zerok’s saber was coming down to meet Starkoth’s heart; Starkoth extended his legs sharply, the grip of his boots latching onto the cold floor propelling Starkoth through the hole in the door. He stood before Zerok could come through, tapped his fingers on the control panel like he had done a thousand times, only faster and the shield door dropped, sealing Zerok in for enough time to make his escape.
He heard Zerok scream in anger from the other side of the door as he ran. He’d barely escaped with his life.

The Chase
Zerok knew of a secret exit from the centre room of the facility, which just so happened to be where he was. Just as he emerged from the secret door at the rear of the building, he glimpsed Starkoth climbing into his ship. Zerok sprinted after him but was just too late as the ship hovered off the ground for a split second before shooting off into the night sky.
There was another ship nearby, so Zerok took it and flew up in the general direction Starkoth had taken. Up far ahead, the scanner picked up the Sith’s ship, and Zerok boosted the speed levels and was catching up fast, too fast. As soon as he was close, green lasers shot out of Starkoth’s ship and nearly took Zerok out of the sky. They were now entering space, with asteroid belts coming up. Zerok knew his enemy would attempt to flee using this as a distraction, and knew he had to take him out before he got there.
Once more, Zerok boosted the speed levels and was catching even faster, spinning and barreling to avoid the upcoming lasers. Then Starkoth fired three missiles. They closed in fast, Zerok piling on speed just before the first two hit him, making them hit each other and explode behind him. The last one was coming from his upper left, so he turned left sharply as the missile tried to hit its target. The missile no longer had him locked-on so it kept flying in the same direction into one of the outer asteroids.
Zerok couldn’t see the man who killed his master for a few seconds and instantly became worried he’d lost him, but soon saw him heading into the more dense part of the asteroid belt. Zerok couldn’t lose him, not now. He followed him in only just avoiding the huge space rocks that were slowly hurtled in all directions from the gravity of the surrounding planets. Starkoth was getting away, clearly used to his surroundings, unlike Zerok who had never flown in an environment like this before.
He emerged out of the other side of the asteroids to see nothing but planets and stars in the distance. Zerok had lost Starkoth…
