Has anyone used or considered using some Sugru to customize their saber? Thoughts? I wonder how difficult it would be to achieve a nice finished look. Here's a link to the website and an example.

Here's a video on texturing Sugru:

Cool.  I'm not sure I'd try it just yet.  I'd like to see some critical feedback on how their stuff holds up under high-stress dueling first.

I made a removable grip with some - if you fiddle with it too much before it dries it goes a bit odd, but it came out quite nicely for a 1st try.

I'll see if I've got any photos about (I left it at home... I'm now stuck at uni)

theres stuff called Quiksteel...a two-part metallic compound with the consistency of playdoh...once kneaded it begins to cure into a JB Weld-type material with high hardness and durability.  i could see some potential there too for hilt customization...

It does a bit yeah, but as with play doh I suspect at somepoint someone is going to come along with something amazing and ridiculous! (Not me though a bit too much like green stuff for me to be any good with it!)

if its so flexible, that you can use it on the emitter.. to stabilize the blade a bit?
This would be awesome!
If its really that flexible, you can still change the blades.. the blades wouldn't move a single cm in the emitter as well.. :O

I'm liking Sythen's idea.  Although, if it's soft, that might compromise your grip if you covered the whole hilt.  maybe the Quicksteel would work.  Oh the possibilities....

the only issue with Quiksteel is the cost...it can get pricey with major coverages...of course, if some sweet organic ancient looking saber design were to come from it....Smiley

The sugru stuff is quite stiff actually

I suspect it would have worked a lot better if you applied it direct to the hilt, instead of faffing about with it for ages so that it wasn't a permanent addition
