I would highly recommend against true invisibility. True invisibility involves bending light around you, thereby creating the illusion that you aren't there. Sounds good? Well, when you think about it: not so much.

In order to achieve invisibility, you have to bend ALL light around you, thereby rendering you completely blind, as no light is entering your retinas to be processed.

It's also achieved (in fiction) by letting all photons pass through you, which has the same effect as bending their course around you.

Yeah, invisibility would suck.

Doesn't count. Single functional mutation of the body, not technomagic from long dead civilizations.

Hmmm.... I like the Wolverine regenerative powers, or shapeshifting, but if I had to come up with something more original.....

Wings with the ensuing flight ability. Something like Nintendo's Kid Icarus, I think. Not Angel status size, but still functional. I'd like to be able to use a normal chair. LOL

In a realistic sense, having wings would be a royal pain, especially in a post apocalyptic setting. You'd need the following to go along with it:

1) you'd need to be very muscular (in birds and bats, the pectoral muscles take up about 30 to 35% of the entire mass of the body)
2) hollow bird-like bones (to subtract weight and maintain flight)
3) mutated skeletal structure (either to add joints for wings or turn your arms into wings)
4) nictating membrane for your eyes (in order to protect them from in flight debris and keep them moist)
5) for a 170 pound human, the wings would need to have about 20 square feet of area. Given the increased musculature needed, you will NOT be 170 pounds.
6) enhanced lung capability for flights at altitude and efficient breathing (it's harder to breathe at higher altitudes)

Also, in order to power your now-supercharged body, you will need to eat more. Probably at least your own body weight per day.

Wings and winged flight are different in the game. If not vestigial then without the package as noted with hollow bones and such then it is more for controlled falls and gliding.

Can I then combine that with a plant and or fish like mutation? If I'm solar powered and can get water from the seas and rivers, lakes, etc, then the eating thing won't be a problem. Plant-Fish-Bird-Man AWAAAAAAAAY!!!!!! Grin

Dude, with 30-35% of your body mass taken by pectoral muscles, you're gonna look less like an angel or gargoyle and more like a bodybuilder as envisioned by Rob Liefeld...

Manny...I have taken great lengths to include the exotic possibilities of characters, though that was not the point of this thread...including mutant plants, symbiotes, parasites, and colonies.

These are strictly used for those certain players who can manage such alien aspects.

But in your case if in the game I would offer that your character be a symbiotic mutant, maybe a mushroom, that is sharing a body with an semi aquatic bird like a cormorant or some such.

And no, the symbiotic/parasitic relationship does not work well at all with mutant hosts...the further one goes off path the more likely there are issues and rejection.

Jev...all good thoughts, right on target were I like to go with the approach of a touch of logic and a taste of science even if it is all science fantasy  Smiley

The flight thing...I tend to lean towards the mutant being smaller, much lighter, hollow/honeycomb bones, huge lungs, bigger heart, etc. or the superhero no wings.

I do allow the superhero aspect of not looking like a mutant but it costs in the end.

Like being slower, less maneuverable, and other aspects...but some players do not want to look mutated no matter what lol.

I definitely second the gills idea.

Mayhap hollow bones, but reinforced by some sort of naturally occurring carbon fiber? Decreases the body weight you need to lug around but allows you to still retain bone strength.

Sticky fingers. Climb up slightly graded surfaces easily.

Binary-vascular system, allowing for increased circulation, etc...

Sound mimicking.

The carbon fiber one...I have used a modified skeletal system...muscle tissue and bone fibers are woven together...less mass, insane flexibility, impossible to break bones as there are none...so carbon fiber flesh and no bones.

Yikes right?
