This is a rare unlicensed Star Wars comic book adaptation, published in St.Petersburg, Russia, in 1994. It tries to be accurate to the source material and not violate canon, but contains a few unintended goofs. Here are some of the scans.  An X-Wing, some TIE fighters, a demon from hell and Yuri Gagarin.  Take a closer look at what Leia puts into R2D2. It's a 5" diskette! Also, Vader wears a dress.  Funny Tusken Raiders  Luke is inexplicably happy  The cantina aliens are even goofier than they should be. BTW, the guy in a blue vest is Chewbacca. |

That is pretty darn cool. I find it interesting to look at some of the various comic adaptations of the OT, and the concept art for that matter, and see the differences from the final models.  |

Fun! Makes me want to get out my Russian dictionary and attempt to read the novelization of A New Hope again...(my reading level in Russian was never that good, but I had to buy the book when I saw it ) An X-Wing, some TIE fighters, a demon from hell and Yuri Gagarin. I love your description  Does Obi-Wan tell Luke they need to take the droids to Aldebaran instead of Alderaan? |

No, mine's a hardcover. It must be a newer edition - they fixed the translation to Алдераан. And thank you for posting this comic book, it's great!  |

That's pretty awesome. Somewhat recognisable, somewhat not. I love the way that things like Chewie and Han's outfits look like something from Buck Rogers.
I guess in '94 there was no internet, no DVDs and probably not much chance of finding a VHS of the film in the St Petersburg branch of HMV.

There was, in fact, no "HMV". There were only gray pirate markets with bootleg VHS. Remember, this is only three years past the ground zero of the Great Politics Mess-Up. They probably did have such a VHS. But more probably they just saw the movie in a theater.
