Ok I am looking at reaplacing my batteries in my saber. They have started to just fail. They are less than 6 months old.

I am looking at replacing the ones I have 3.7v 900mAh (x2) with 3.7v 3000mAh. I have no sound and I have the buckpuck in my saber.

Am I safe to do so?

General consensus is that batteries claiming to be 3.7v 3000mAh are misrepresenting themselves. I can't find it at the moment, but there was a discussion about this a little while ago, and the general idea was that it's better to stick with what we know works. As to how they started to fail, unfortunately it does happen at times, but have you followed the care for Li-Ion tips?

This is true, but it depends on the size of the cell. A 14500 size claiming to run 3000 mah is clearly not going to provide that type of runtime, but 26650 certainly can run that, if not more.

I think the physical size may differ as well...

What about replacing them with a 3.6v/2600mAh?

I ordered new batteries but even with two day shipping they won't get here in time. And I need the saber to work for an event. I was going to buy 2 of these and the charger and then return them after I was done. Shady? Yes. Care? No.

Those are thionyl chloride lithium cells.  They are single use and are NOT rechargeable.

They work pretty well. I learned that when I went to the store. I am glad I picked them up as I am waiting for my new batteries to get here. I have taken them out of the saber when not in use. While I hate having had paid $18 for two batteries I am glad I had them.
