Last weeks episode was pretty awesome: The Doctor's Wife, by Neil Gaiman!

Next weeks looks pretty good too:

It's written by the guy behind the original Life On Mars series in the UK.

Now if only Ultra started to make sonic screwdrivers...

Oh sorry! I hope that wasn't too spoilery!

(Though - it's not quite what you'd think... It's more of a bit part than the main villain)

Being in America and only having basic cable, I've never seen this show. A friend of mine saw it and didn't like it. I'm not usually one to let others opinion keep me from watching(and sometimes enjoying) thing, but honestly what he described did not sound appealing to me.

It's on Netflix, should I give it try? What's it about exactly?

I'm from the UK and I don't mind this show but I don't go out of my way to watch it.

Well I adore it - though I am biased since it was a large part of my childhood...

Yes I would recommend it to anyone, though you should probably be careful about which episode you choose to jump in with if you do. I'd recommend The Eleventh Hour for a good general idea of what the show is about (even though there's nothing awe-inspiring there, and some of the CG was a bit odd that season due to the HD switchover), or if you want the show at it's most fan pleasing I'd go for The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon, or The Doctor's Wife (last weeks episode, though they may be a little difficult as stepping on points).

Basically he's an alien, with an awesome time-machine (the TARDIS, shaped like a police box since it's rather ancient and some parts malfunction, oh and it's bigger on the inside. The TARDIS is mostly just the vehicle to go from story a to story b) that lets him go off and have adventures whenever and wherever every week. He almost always travels around with a normal person or two to let the audience have someone to "relate to" as the BBC bosses tend to put it, but I kinda think it's because they need to maintain some mystery around his character. So if the show followed him all the time it would lose it pretty quickly.

It's a bit of an eccentric show, that reflects the fact that it's been around for nearly 50 years now! Here in the UK it's advertised as a family show, where all 3 generations can sit down watch and enjoy it for different reasons, so yeah there are aspects that can seem somewhat odd occasionally. However the current series seems to be quite a bit darker in tone.

I personally love the current series with Matt Smith and the talents of Steven Moffat (he of Sherlock fame) and co on the writing team, since they've utilised the time travel aspect fully, and aren't just rehashing increasingly similar plots like the last writing team occasionally did.

(I didn't care very much for the show previously when Chris Eccleston and David Tennant were the star, mostly because of the writing team at the time - a lot of the plots didn't actually make much sense, and the "scifi" aspects were mostly technobabble clearly made up to hide plot holes or act as deus ex machina...)

Anyhooow inordinately long post (or rave!) over!

Actually I think these describe the show far better than I ever could:

i've been a fan of the Dr since I was a kid and I really enjoyed the last series with Matt Smith in but this series isn't doing it for me as much, not sure what it is really.  I think the big spoiler at the start of the 1st episode has put a dampner on it in my mind in previous series if they had a story running through the series it was very subtle and you didn't notice until they revealed it but in this series they seem to reslly hammer it home every episode " hey don't forget XXXXX happed" (censored for spoilers ) it seems a bit clumsy somehow.

yeah i know i'm not very far into to this seeing as i'm a couple seasons behind but even know it seems like they're doing that i liked it when they just tied two seasons togather with a seris of almost random events like with donna and the bees disappearing or even donna in general i guess though i hated the characeter and actress

I'm really loving this series so far - but I guess I am willing to put up with them re-emphasising the point every week, it's only briefly each show, and I want to see what the pay-off/resolution is!

"The only water in the forest is the river..."

Meh - I rather liked David Tennant, he was the perfect choice for the role. But I don't think the writing at the time did him any favours. Especially those specials *shudder* I went from rather liking his portrayal, including the occasional bit of arrogance to wishing that he'd just go away!

Of course this is all completely subjective, and I know I'm horribly biased but yeah... Ugh twenty minutes at the end of an episode to provide about 10 different endings? (It was like the Return of the King, but in a bad way, sure that works in a book but on the screen? Not so much. And don't even get me started on Rose, and her own personal ...well)
