Darth Wraith, you may like the Lost Suns series...Issue 2, scheduled to come out Jul 13th, has an advertisement (picture) similar to the picture you have in your signature block. Wished I could upload a picture to show you, but I haven't figured out how to scan it, crop it, and upload it.

Regarding your issues, try downloading gimp (it's a free version of most of the options you would get with photoshop) This will allow you to crop pics, re-size them, and make alterations in color and all other different ways, making lightsabers, creating force lightning, etc...... (See Youtube for instructions and walkthroughs regarding lightsabers and lighting creation)
As far as getting a pic to here, try image shack.com , I actually picked up the site from another post on the forums here from another member, but I have had NOTHING BUT SUCCESS in regards to uploading a pic to the site, then getting a link to take it here (this is the only successful way I have found to transfer pics from your computer to our beloved forums here). You'll have to sign up for an account, to get a DIRECT LINK that you will be required to have to transport image links giving you the results you want.
