Been super busy with the baby due next week, but finally got a chance to do a little saber work last night. This was a 4th place raffle prize from last years spring raffle. It hasn't been functional since about 2 weeks after that. A DSI in DVA with vertical grooves. I weathered it, gave a saber cut on the emitter, added a violet lighted switch, added QD's, and custom light Gray o-rings. Came out like a champ. This cleans up all my US projects for the moment. |

Congrats, DarthBone. I really like your DSI with the DVA blade, looking really good and the weathering for it along with the damaged emitter is looking good. I like the gray o-rings that you threw on there, gives it grip and a different look altogether

Sure. Here's a few more pictures, mine is the nickel-plated version but it probably doesn't show super nicely in my available lighting:    While I think it looks good, the Monarch isn't exactly what I was expecting when I got it a few years back. It's a bit bulkier than it seems to look in pictures, and it's very heavy for its size. In fact it feels just as heavy as the Fulcrum to me, which is a massive saber (maybe the non nickel plated ones are a little lighter, I'm not sure). And the shape of the saber is also problematic. There's not really a good place for my leading hand because the bulbous switch section is so wide and it feels very awkward. Also the big fat rings in the grip section are bigger than they look and they uncomfortably press into my palm when I grip it tight:  This is a saber I'd love to see Ultrasabers roll out a v2 version of as I feel like slimming it down a bit would significantly improve handling while retaining the regal aesthetic that they were going for. But while the weight and the shape keep it from being a solid dueling saber, again it does look great. Especially with the nickel plating. I got mine in Bane's Heart, and I think that color and straight red both compliment the nickel coloring very well. So if you want one for the cool factor, then it's a great choice. One thing to mention along those lines though is if you're going to use it for cosplay or something then finding a way to hang it from a belt may be a challenge since there's no place to put a covertech, and the pommel hole seems to be a little wide for D-ring setups:  Also, while it has an MHS compatible pommel, if you get the nickel plated version there's not really anything you can do with it. I've seen some people put a Scorpion pommel for instance on a Dark Monarch which looked pretty cool, but that's not really an option here without it looking incredibly weird. Anyway, hope that helps. |
