As the subject says I am looking for recommendations on reading material. I have very limited experience with Expanded Universe stuff but after becaoming involved with this forum, I have gotten interested in a few things. I am interested in the Old Republic Era, particularly the Great Glalctic Wars between the Republic and Sith Empire.

I am not into video games mainly because I do not have time for them. I have read everything on wookipeida about the wars and Darth Malgus (who I find to be a very interesting character). I am finding this to be a fancinating part of Star Wars history and something I think Disney would be wise to explore in a few movies. I have readed the original 5 Tales of the Jedi comics but I think that takes place a few hundred years prior to the wars.

If anyone can steer me towards some good books, comic or graphic novels, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Not exactly the era you're asking about, but I always recommend the X-Wing Novels. Smiley Some of the best EU novels I've ever read, and of course, Shadows of the Empire and Courtship of Princess Leia are musts if you like the Original Trilogy! Wink

- Darth Bane trilogy
- X-Wing series + I, Jedi
- Corsucant Nights trilogy (quadrilogy soon, I believe)
- Republic/Imperial Commando series
- Han Solo trilogy (mid-90s, hard to believe, but still superb)

I've not read too much in the Sith-y era, but the Old Republic books are set around that era. Fatal Alliance, I think, is the only one I've read from that time. It's not bad, but I think it's a sequel to an earlier book and I could probably do with reading that, too.

Knight Errant is set around the same time - one Jedi, alone in the Sith regions of space. A pretty good read, I'd say, and it's interesting seeing a lone Jedi who's not a paragon of the Jedi Code, shall we say.

I have read Shadows of the Empire...great book.

I just like what I have read on wookiepedia about the Great Galactic Wars, it seems like a facinating period in the "history." I love the full scale war stuff. Unfortunately, I think most of this comes from the video games, I am not sure if there are any books about this era.

Wookiepedia is like a reader's digest verion of the stories, which is fun to read, but I want the whole story. I am not really a Sith lover but I like Malgus. He seems different than other Sith Lords to me.

This sounds like what I am looking for. I will check this one out. Thanks.

The Bane Trilogy is a MUST READ, for every Star Wars fan. Great series, which really gives you some insight into the Sith that you won't find anywhere else. Plus it really sets up the Sith takeover we see in the movies.

The Old Republic books are also a good choice. They tie in to SWTOR, but from what I understand, they're good standalone reads as well.

I did indeed like the Bane trilogy. Now I gotta start Darth Plagueis, just so dang lazy! I might start it tomorrow.

Also heartily recommended. I got this a few months ago, and I've read it twice in that time, which is very unusual for me. An excellent book.

I recommend the books that started the expand universe, the Thrawn Trilogy composed of Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command.  They are the books that introduced Mara Jade and the solo twins.

I've only read the thrawn trilogy, my sister picked em up cheap second hand for me with a bunch of other Sci fi, fantasy and adventure books like she often does and I loved em. Really gotta get around to tracking some others down at the library

Thanks for all of the recommendations. I will look into these.

However, I am still looking for Old Republic, Great Galacitc War reading. I looked through the wookiepedia articles again and correct me if I am wrong, it seems that what I am looking for is nothing more than back story stuff that was addressed in the video games.

I would love to read about the 28 years of war, the destruction of the Jedi Temple, the Jedi exiled on Tython. I am up for any novels or graphic novels (since I love costuming, I really appreciate seeing what the characters and clothing looks like.)

Atlas Shrugged.

Oh, wait.  You mean Star Wars reading?  My bad. Cheesy

Again, not in the Old Republic timeframe, but I'll always consider the Thrawn Trilogy to be the single best Star Wars books ever written by man.

I've heard a lot of people say that they enjoyed Deceived. I couldn't get into it, but you may enjoy it.
