The idea behind being a Jedi knight is to use only what is necessary to accomplish your task, thus using these midi-chlorian enhanced abilities sparingly shows both resistance to temptation and humility in such power. The Sith do not care of their image other than pure power, in other words Force lightning, amongst other examples.
