I thought I would review my newest saber, the Counsular recently released by Ultrasabers. This is my fourth saber and I have to tell you, I am very impressed. This saber has a very solid heft to it and the balance feels good. I have not worked with the saber much at this point but saber handling felt very good during my initial practice swings. I have not had a chance to practice (duel) with a partner yet, but I think the saber will perform very well.
First off, some rough dimensions. Assembled the saber is approximately 11 3/4 inches long with 1 5/8 diameter. As a comparison I have photographed the Counsular next to a MR Mace Windu saber.
Partially disassembled the saber looks like this:
In this image you can see the battery pack connected to the Obsidian sound board. Important note: read carefully the recommendation by Ultrasabers regarding the Li-Ion battery pack. I missed this when I ordered my Counsular and I plan on having this option installed in the near future. Another thing to note, the activation switch shipped with the saber is not the anti-tamper illuminated switch that you will see in some of the Counsular videos. This switch can be added from the SOUND OPTION page (currently the last option in the list).
The shroud on the Counsular is removable and comes in two options, plain and nickel plated. Shown below is the plain shroud.
With the shroud removed the Counsular presents quite a different saber. As promised by Ultrasabers, this is truly two sabers in one. Additionally both the emitter and pommel can be swapped out with MHS compatible replacements, allowing you to further customize this saber. Pictured is the Counsular with the shroud removed and with the stock emitter and pommel.
I really like this saber and I think you will to. An elegant weapon for a more civilized time.
