What's hard to understand about swish swish stab?

« on: April 07, 2014, 10:45:09 PM »

Seven years ago, my brother and I ordered two "apprentice" Ultrasabers. The 10.5 inch hilt was made out of PVC with black elastic bands for the grip, a 4 AAA battery holder, a Luxeon LED (I forgot which number Luxeon it was. Maybe 3?) and no sound board. I recall it cost only about thirty dollars. The saber is as shown below :

My question is this : is there a reason why these sabers are no longer in the store? I'm considering getting one for my little cousin, since the Hasbro sabers don't seem that good quality to me, and the $54 Initiate saber currently in the shop seems too expensive for him to handle.

The days of the PVC sabers has past.  The slight raise in price includes the saber being high grade aluminum and much much more durable!

Well worth the extra price of a halfway decent dinner  Smiley

The Initiate replaced the one you and presented.

Hrm. How much will it cost for me to scratch build one of these by ordering the internal parts (LED, filters, blade, etc) and buy the PVC parts from Home Depot?

I would think around $35-$40, there about.

Perhaps consider a grab bag?

yup all high grade aluminum is the way nowadays. Most companies will change their products in 7 years so the days of PVC is long discontinued

You could always get all the parts for a Do it yourself project but for the price of getting all the materials and tools the price I don't think would be that different from an initiate or a grab bag could be a good choice too.

My suggestion, get a new "more expensive" all aluminium one for your self and pass the plastic one down to the little cousin.

I agree. If you can afford it this would be the best option for you and your cousin because those days have past. You could pick something out or get a grab bag and hope for something you would like. In either event you can still choose the blade color.

This...this is the option that I would also recommend!  Upgrade.  Pass down.  Enjoy!

If it is a matter of being worried that he will drop and damage the aluminum saber, you can always wrap it in something protective as well and get something similar to the elastic band feel you have in the other.

Even when you drop it, it won't take much damage. A few scratches (if any), and that's it. No damaged internals, no damaged hilt, threads, whatsoever. My neighbour dropped her Guardian onto a wooden stool - the stool had a nice large dent, the saber was like right-out-of-the-box: no dents, no scratches, nothing. Even the screws didn't break off.

That's the great advantage of aluminium - and Ultrasabers Cheesy Extremely durable.

Do it enough and the battery pack will split apart though. Mine is currently held together by tape. But then if you watch my videos, you will understand why.
