This video is the first of my intermediate saber spinning series. It deals with the reverse grip, including how to enter and exit it, its application on all of the basic moves, and a variant of the Obi/Ani and plum flower using a transition between the two grips. While the reverse grip is often considered rather basic, I wanted to call this an intermediate as some applications of it contain the possibility of injury if one is not very comfortable with the beginning blade mechanics shown in the basics series here http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=20241.0

i found this useful. a few reverse grip moves in there that even i haven't tried. i dunno why i haven't done the clock face in reverse yet. It has a dual wielding application.. i think ....

Good to hear. I know you spend a lot more time in reverse grip than I do. My goal with this series is to focus more on theory than specific moves and leave variation, the creation of moves, and the application to the viewer.

So here is the second video in the intermediate series, this video deals with hand switches as they are used to increase reach, modify existing spins, and connect different spin types together while using single saber. The basic hand switch is explained and demonstrated and two modifications of the plum flower spin using hand switches are discussed. Though not demonstrated in this video, this technique also applies to reverse grip. I anticipate that the next two videos will deal with the upside down obi/ani and transitioning between the three plains of motion, though not necessarily in that order. Enjoy.

Got inspired and finished off the intermediate series.

Part 3 deals with a variation of the Obi/Ani spin that comes back from and out over the shoulder rather than from around the hip. For lack of a better term, I am calling it an upside-down Obi/Ani or a high Obi/Ani spin. It is here shown in forward and reverse direction.

Part 4 deals with the three plains of movement for saber spinning including how to switch directions by slipping between them. The horizontal plain is discussed as well as adaptation body movements necessary to use it.

Part 5 deals with widening the stance established in the beginning series and moving with the saber in the lower stance.

Part 6 is an end cap summing up the previous series and the previous 5 sections of this series in preparation for advanced moves and dual wield. It also demonstrates an under-leg pass.

As a bonus, all videos feature a particularly bright shirt.  Enjoy.
