NO ONE GETS THE DROP ON THE MONARCH!!!

« on: August 11, 2011, 01:36:56 PM »

I know it used to be an option to get the Ultraegde Heavy Grade in Initiate size. (at least I think it was based on my search through the forum.) I would like to pick up a set for my upcoming staff build as the duels I engage in tend to wear out the usual Mid Grade versions. I'm wondering if you have to specify the Initiate size in the comments section of an order for full legnth UEHG blades to get them in Initiate size or not.

I've looked around the forum but couldn't seem to find a definitive answer to this. Any ideas folks?

I would imagine you could cut a full length blade down to initiate size.

You can have them cut a blade down to just about any size - the 24" initiate, the 32" mid size, etc.  Just specify in the comments section what size you would like them to cut to.  Even if they miss it (unlikely) you can cut a blade down quite easily - Master Artorius did it himself no problem.

Hey, I've been meaning to cut a blade down. How'd he do it? Table saw? Any damage to the optic sheath? What was used to reattach said sheath to the blade? Is that just transparent calk?

I used a ratchet PVC cutter to get mine to size. http://www.lowes.com:80/pd_131775-16878-43048_0__?productId=3307322&Ntt=pvc+cutter&pl=1&currentURL=%2Fpl__0__s%3FNtt%3Dpvc%2Bcutter&facetInfo=

The tube is more flexible than PVC, so I had to work at it a bit, but it did cut clean. Gorilla Super Glue afterward to hold optic film in place. Just use the glue sparingly and slowly build it up. Be patient.

Heh heh, and here I was thinking that the best machine to cut the tube was a bandsaw. But I guess not everyone is going to have one of those in their shed  Grin

Wouldn't a band saw tear up the optic film inside? You would have to remove it first I would think.

If you were to use a machine saw you would certainly want to remove the film to protect it.  However it's really easy to cut through these blades with a simple hack saw, and then you won't need to remove the film before cutting.  A hacksaw will cause the film to flex away from the blade instead of cutting it.  This way you can cut through the blade itself, then when you've gone all the way around you can simply pull the film out and cut it before you reglue it.

Also if you haven't ordered the staff yet you could put in the comment box that you want initiate sized blades and Emory will cut down or provide these blades in the size you specify!

Cheers,

Thaks everyone! Deep contacted me and confirmed that I just have to add the required legnth into the comments section and it'd be good to go. Glad to hear it!
