You can't take the sky from me....

« on: June 08, 2015, 06:14:58 AM »

Yes! We are getting started on setting up a TOR era RP at long last!

Some basic information:

All characters in this T and P RPG will be Jedi. This isn't to say that we expect you all to be Jedi in the main game, in fact we hope some of you will choose to play Sith! But due to limitations in numbers and the effort involved in setting up and running a game, we will be restricting it to just the Jedi for now. More information on the game will be supplied later, however it will be a group of padawans participating in a training exercise in Tython.

We will be allowing people to transfer their characters from the game here into the main RP if they want to. The events in this RP have NO bearing in the main game, while you may have the same character it is a completely separate RP. The point of this is to let you get used to roleplaying with the particular skills you have chosen for your character, as playing a Force user is very different to playing a non- Force user. Your character in this RP will most likely be younger than they will be in the main RP. You will also be allowed to change things about your character between this RP and the main one, so if you find you don't like something then you can work with us to edit your character appropriately. More than likely your character will have developed additional skills or increased their skill level between this RP and the main one. If you don't want to use this character in the main RP or want to play a Sith character then that is also fine by us Smiley

When designing your character for this RP please keep in mind you are a PADAWAN. No one is a Skywalker, or a Revan, or a Starkiller. You are not all powerful. Your character will be inexperienced and not know how to control all their power and there will be abilities that they haven't yet unlocked. Please see the Helpful Hints for creating TOR T and P Characters thread for more information about designing your character as well as the template required (when we have posted it up!). Please keep a regular eye on this as everything listed there still isn't set in stone and there may be changes. Helpful tips and links can also be found in this thread http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=23947.msg365396#new as well as the TOR Reboot discussion http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=24172.0. TOR Reboot discussion also includes a timeline of around when the main RP will be set. This RP will be set sometime during the middle of the Cold War (we will set an exact date shortly to help you sort out your background!). For just about all of you, this will mean that at some stage before the Sacking of Coruscant you would have been at the Coruscant Temple, and either would have been evacuated during the Sacking, have been away with your Master, or you were training at a training facility on a different planet at the time.

As with all the other RPGs, character sheets MUST be approved by the GMs before posting it in the character sheet thread! You must also have acknowledged the RP Rules if you haven't already before you can begin posting in the game.

If you are having any troubles or have questions, just PM myself and Krace and we will be happy to help you out Smiley Alternatively, questions can be posted here as well! Cheesy

OK, we have an actual TOR RP T&P Character sheet.

New TOR Era T&P Characters

For those of you who have already submitted character sheets, thank you. Please rearrange your character details into the new template but don't resend it- we will provide you with feedback soon (hopefully within the next few days), then you can make any edits to your new sheet and resend it through.

If you don't have anything yet, please use this to craft yours.

Hey guys I'd just like to note some things regarding characters for this RP:

- we have said no double blades lightsabers as to use one takes skill. While it's all great in KOTOR or SWTOR to swing one around, it would actually take a lot of time, training and skill to learn to use one effectively. This doesn't mean that your character can't have one when it is moved over to the main RPG as your character will likely be older and more skilled (however we would need good justification to allow it) but this is a training RP- single lightsabers only please.
- your characters are padawans on a training mission. For this scenario we are looking for your characters to mostly be 14-16- they are younger and lack the experience and skill that comes from years of study, training and serving the Order. Please keep this in mind when you edit your characters.
- you are all PADAWANS- this means you already HAVE been chosen by a knight or master, therefore we need mention of who your master is in your background, their speciality, any important points about them etc. You are simply participating in a group training session with other padawans for this scenario.

The game will be starting very soon! IF YOU HAVE HAD YOUR CHARACTER APPROVED then you may now post your character sheet into the TOR character sheet thread! Any unapproved characters posted there will be immediately removed, and it will be a poor introduction for you to the T and P.

Remember everyone, we will be playing in 5 ATC- that is 5 years after the Sacking of Coruscant and the destruction of the Jedi Temple. Tython wasn't rediscovered until 2 ATC and the new Temple didn't begin construction until 3 ATC- so in that time any Jedi would have served on other outposts, exploration ships, Republic planets etc. Please keep this in mind as far as your character sheet backgrounds as well as when you play in game- the absolute longest anyone would have been on Tython would be about 3 years and at that early stage it would have just been camps as Tython was re-established as their home world. As the Temple wasn't finished until 6 ATC we can assume that the Temple will be in some stage of construction during our game, but lets assume that it is for the most part built.

This has been re- pasted from the greater TOR discussion for your reference:

Important Dates

Note: dates are given in BBY (before the battle of Yavin) as well as BTC (before the Treaty of Coruscant) and ATC (after the Treaty of Coruscant). Note: if referring to dates in game, you will be required to use ATC and BTC

Hey all, just wanted to bring something up about lightsaber skills when making your characters.  We are in the TOR Era, and I think something that may have been missed in the past was a bit of info about Form VII Juyo/Vaapad.

I put it here in this Helpful Hints for creating TOR T and P Characters thread as well, but I am posting it other places too.

The Vaapad part of Form VII did not exist until the Clone Wars Era when Mace Windu helped create it.  Until then it was just Juyo.

the first posts are up to set the scene and let you have a browse before we open the game.

a few hints- make sure you read through other characters sheets before you start playing, and make sure you are familiar with the timeline of recent events. given the timing of this game a lot is going on in universe Smiley When you do post, as with the other RPGs please start with your character's name/ position and their location. Keep in mind your characters strengths and limitations- as you are all at various levels of training you won't all be super knowledgeable on the Force, the ways of the Jedi, abilities or saber combat. We expect to see this reflected in your posting. Of course each of your characters has their own strengths and this comment isn't to say that you all have to play helpless weaklings because that isn't the case- it is simply to remind you to play to character Smiley

Bit of column a, bit of column b? Tongue honestly, we are so used to RPing together we tend to know how each other think and we have experience on another forum with these two characters training, that we generally can just write up posts, send them to the other person before posting, and we are happy with them with minimal changes.

Any posts dictating the actions of the other, we get approval for before posting as that's only fair. While we know in general how each others characters work/ think, obviously we know our own characters best.

My best advice is that when it comes to dueling, training, fighting etc, consult with the player who is your 'opponent', whether it be via PM, facebook, however you talk to them. Get the okay from them on how you fight and any reactions you are NPCing their character doing. When you fight, don't write out the entire battle. Leave things open give your opponent the chance to respond to the situation. You will see in our posts we have the characters give and take, but if there are any major moves we give the other the chance to reply in their own post. Also keep in mind your characters strengths vs your opponents- if you are force orientated whereas your opponent is a strong saber fighter, obviously you wont easily overcome them with your lightsaber skills- to do so is poor writing.

As B1ondeange1 said, each side of a fight needs to give the other ample chance to do things.  At this point, I am basically turning all 8 of you loose, but I am counting on you to keep things fair.  Make sure you communicate with your opponent if you want to have certain things play out in your matches.  Communication is the key here to having fun.

Everyone, please pay attention to your spelling and grammar. A good idea is to write your post in some form of word processor that will do a spell check, plus it helps to read over your own posts a couple of times before posting them to do a self spelling and grammar check.

Also, we prefer if you are voicing another or copying what another has said, that you put it in italics (either use the italics tab above, or write [ i ] before the text and [ / i ] afterwards but without the spaces). An example:

She grinned as she spoke "so, you said you were stationed on Ord Mantell before this?"

The man looked at her for a moment before responding "yeah that's right, six month tour. Felt more like six years."

Also, be aware of what tense you are using. It is your choice whether you write in past or present tense, however do not jump back and forth between the tenses in your post or between posts! Choose one and stick with it.

All this is quite important and really helps the others involved in the RP.

Please also keep in mind to pace your posting. You really shouldn't finish your dueling in one or two posts.  Especially before others get their posts in to start their duels.

Hey everyone, please remember when you are duelling, leave it open enough that the opponent can respond. Especially at the end of a post.

For example, instead of "Joe kicked Pete in the knee", consider instead "Joe aimed a kick at Pete's left knee". It gives the same message, the same actions are being done- but this allows the opponent player to respond properly without their actions already being dictated for them, whether their character would actually be quick enough to avoid the kick, or to block it, or whether they would cop the kick and how hard. Or instead of "Bob pointed his blaster at Bill and shot him in the chest" you would have "Bob aimed his blaster at Bill's chest and pulled the trigger."

Another example in game is when I posted Shayla mounting her combo Force and saber attack, while I had it that Ikis's feet sunk into the dirt I didn't dictate whether he was permanently stuck, therefore I gave him the opportunity to respond whether he could free himself and how. I also had Shayla aim her attack at him, but didn't dictate it hitting him, nor how he responded to it eg blocking it, or using a Force Push to throw her back, etc. This gave Krace the freedom as the player to respond how he wanted, in a manner that suits his character. After all, we all know our own characters best Smiley

I'm assuming that you can post completed attacks if you already discussed them with your sparring partner beforehand.....
