I tried myself in doing a leather grip wrap and emitter shroud on one of my sabers; I let you guess what was the 'origin' Grin

I think (for hopefully obvious reasons) I'll call it the 'Caterpillar'

Any guesses so far? Well, that's a Liberator V2 inside Wink
My modifications didn't mess up the balance as bad as I feared; with an 32" UE the balance point is about at the two screws.
And although I didn't get thin leather, thanks to the slim OD of the Liberator it's still quite comfy...

Definitely an interesting custom, how did you secure the leather?

Correct Wink
Here in Germany it is difficult to find a piece of PVC with the right ID. The ID of one I got was about half a mm to small, so some 'fun' hours with file and sandpaper were involved...

Definitely an interesting custom, how did you secure the leather?

I was quite amazed but it doesn't take much:
I used a little sandpaper to rough up the hilt. Afterwards I started wrapping from pommel side; as I used quite a bit of force, that way the wrap is 'fixing' itself. On the emitter side for the last inch or so I used leathercraft cement (this one http://lederkram.de/lederkram/grosserbilderordner/fiebingslederkleberleathercraftcementneu.jpg) to glue the leather strip to itself. I could have glued more, but as I don't duel, this should be enough for me Wink
Only downside: The tutorial I found for doing such a wrap recommended to use quite a thin leather; the only 'nice one' I got is two or three times as thick Sad  I'd say the Liberator now has the 'regular' MHS OD...

Nicely done... something tells me you are a fan of the "reverse grip" style ;-)

Well, yes and no Wink  I think it looks cool, but that's all.
On the other hand the long wrap is quite nice as there are some reversals on the simple spins I can already do Wink

What type of leather is it? It looks kinda like suede, not the harder leather I thought it was at first.

It's quite a soft leather:

I hope I can translate the product information correctly:
That's a strip of 'shoe upper leather', about one inch wide, 90 inches long, 4-5 oz.
(The tutorial I used recommended 1-2 oz., so for e.g. a MHS-sized saber it would be way to thick.)

Link to (German) shop: http://lederkram.de/category.php?cat_ID=653, look for 'ALR250' quite down the page.

Thanks. ^_^ I've been looking for a decent leather to use on my hilts, and that looks like it'd work great.
